5. Chapter Five: Halloween and Quidditch

Neither Malfoy nor I could believe our eyes when we saw Harry here the next day, it really was a shock. That snake is still ranting to Crabbe and Goyle about it. The odd part was that Harry and Ron had grins plastered on their faces as though something awesome happened. I'll have to ask them about it later.
Malfoy had been avoiding me since my explosion in the common room. I can't really blame him either, I would have avoided myself also. At least it gives me a sense of peace. I had also notice Hermione has been avoiding Ron and Harry. They probably did something stupid, most boys do (no offense). I had thought everything was fine, I guess not.
I sit at the Slytherin breakfast table eating with Will. I wear my emerald green necklace that I've had since I was little. It's a bit of a good luck charm. I never wear it though, I'm always to lazy to put it on. I hear the signal for mail and look up and am momentarily distracted from my breakfast. Everyone's attention is caught by two long, thin packages carried by twelve owls total. One of the parcels land in front of me, and the other, Harry.  I chuckle, I wonder what's in the broom shaped parcel? Attached to it is a note from Professor Snape, oh this aught to be good.
"I ask that you do not open this at the table.
It contains your new nimbus two-thousand
and knowing the greedy students in this school
they will all want one also. I do ask you learn to
play the game. Mr. Flint has refused to teach you.

        Proffesor Severus Snape

Marcus that right foul git! How could he refuse to teach me? I can't learn it all on my own. I know nothing about beating at all. Maybe I'll ask Fred and George later, They're beaters right? Yeah, I'll ask after breakfast.  I hand the note to Riley and Will to read and they both look happy until the last part. They both agree that Marcus is a jerk. A sexist jerk. I'm sad that our Markus has the same name. Whatever, I JUST LOVE THE IDEA OF HAVING A BROOM. I tell Riley to watch the Parcel while while Will and I go talk to Fred and George. I give a hug to Markus on the way. Getting a few glares from some Hufflepuffs. They need to get used to it. As I approach the Gryffindor table people tense up. I ignore it though.
        "Fred, George." I state.
"Hello Ghim, What do you need?"
"Quidditch lessons, Marcus is refusing to teach me..." I say, making them turn to glare at the Slytherin Quidditch captain. They turn back and continue talking with me.
"Sure," They say in unison. "You're going to be a beater right? Well, even though you're Slytherin, we'll help. Marcus is a git."
"Thank you so much, I wish he wasn't s.."
"SHERIE!?!" I hear a familiar voice call out. I have heard that voice before... I turn around and see..
He runs and pulls me into a bone crushing hug. Actually it hurts, ow...
"What are you doing here?" He asks happily.
Daniel was my neighbor when I lived here for two years. We were so close though he was like a year or two older than me, but he was a muggle. He must be muggle-born or he just told me he was a wizard. Probably the second one. I look at his robe and it says Gryffindor. Cool, I knew he belonged there.
"I moved back and well, I'm a witch."
"Wait you two know each other?" Fred and George asked in unison. Daniel explains everything to them. Daniel was like a brother. I missed him so much and I can't believe he is here. He must be in his... second, third year maybe? Either way I'm happy. I say goodbye and walk back towards the common room when I see Harry and Ron being bombarded on the staircase.
"Don't make me break your nose again Malfoy.." I threaten. Harry and Ron are utterly confused and Malfoy has a small look of horror then he puts back his sneer.
"You've got a broomstick too?" He asks, pointing to the parcel in my hands.
"Yup," I reply, walking back towards room. Leaving him shocked. I nearly bump into Professor Flitwick on the way. He's so short that it's comical.
When I get back to the stone common room, I remove the crinkling brown package in my arms. I stare at the amazing broomstick, gliding my hand over the smooth surface. It's really mine.

"Happy Halloween Rylie, Will." I say happily as I take a seat next to them in the great hall. The loud chatter of the Hall continues as I take a seat.

“That stupid Granger is crying in the girls bathrooms, maybe someone actually told them what they think of her to her face..” A Slytherin girl says, smirking. Why is Hermione crying.

I throw down what I was about to eat and take off towards the girl’s bathroom. Hopefully I can find her. Why did nobody come and comfort her? This is awful, I bet Ron said something. I swear to god I will kill him.

As I run into the small restroom I hear a quiet weeping coming from one of the stalls and call out her name.

“Hermione? You in there?” I ask.

    “Go away!” She shouts.

“Hermione…’ I say, walking up to the stall and opening the door slowly. I tell her to come here and she pulls me into a hug. Her sobs muffled by my shoulder.

“What happened?” I ask her quietly. She chokes a bit but answers.

“R-ron... H-he was s-so awful.” She says sobbing. “ He said I w-was a n-nightmare and that nobody c-could s-stand being around me.” She says. I’m about to condole her until she cuts me off before I get a chance to speak. She still has tears falling but she is no longer stuttering. “And he’s right. I have no friends, nobody likes me. I’m just an ugly little know it all.” She says, letting a new sob escape her lips.

“I like you and I’ll be your friend if you let me.” I say. I don’t have many friends either and Hermione is so sweet.

“I would love that,” She says smiling. Just as we were going to begin speaking, We hear large footsteps approaching us and a foul stench filled our noses. We both turn around and see a twelve foot troll with dull grey skin. It was holding a wooden club that it dragged. I let out a small shriek and back up against the wall with Hermione. It starts advancing onto us until I see Harry and Ron enter quickly.

    “Harry! Ron! Help!” I yell.

Ron grabs a tap and throws it against the wall, while I climb under one of the stall doors and slide underneath them all to get the door. I must keep moving. Water was spraying from the sinks and soaking my clothes as I go. I can see the nasty troll going after Harry instead now. Ron’s racket gets the troll’s attention and Harry runs, trying to move hermione but she’s frozen, her mouth open in terror.

Next thing I know, Harry takes a running leap and fastens himself around the troll’s neck from behind. That idiot… I gag when I see his wand in the nose of the troll. Oh god…

Howling, the monster twists and flails with Harry hanging on. It oddly reminded me of a mechanical bull ride. I continue to crawl until I’m next to the door and watch all of this unfold. Ron crys the first spell he can think of, “Wingardium Leviosa!”

The club rises out of his hand and floats above him and with a crack, hits the trolls head. It swayed the landed on its face against the tile. Making the chamber tremble from the impact.

Next thing we know, Professor McGonagall walks in with snape and Professor Quirrell. He lets out a faint whimper and sits down clutching his heart. I walk up to him and give him small pats on the back.

McGonagall could have murdered someone, her lips were white. “What on earth were you thinking of?” She asks with a cold fury. “You’re lucky you weren’t killed. Why are you not in your dormitories?”

Harry looks at the floor silently while Ron still had his wand in the air. Then Hermione’s small voice filled our ears.

“Please, Professor McGonagall - They came looking for me.” I look at her in utter shock.

“Miss Granger!”

She makes up a story about looking for the troll and such. I can’t believe she is lying to a teacher. It’s hard to believe. I’m still in shock.

“Miss Granger, five points will be taken from Gryffindor for this.” She says, “ I’m very disappointed in you. If you’re not hurt at all, you’d better get off to Gryffindor tower, Students are finishing the feast in their houses.”

We both scurry out of the room. Still overwhelmed from what had just occurred. I don’t want to go to my common room, but I know that I have to. As I walk in, everybody is loud and eating the food laid out amongst themselves. I grab some and join Riley in the corner. I’m going to take a guess and say that she isn’t a people person. That’s ok though. Nothing wrong with that. I think I’m happy Hermione got insulted, then we would have never met as friends. Everything happens for a reason.

I’m excited. Today is the last day of October which means November is coming and Quidditch season! I can’t wait. I start talking to Rylie about it happily. I’m so happy and elated. I only wish that Marcus would have taught me instead of being a jerk. Why could he be the Captain? He was cruel, and mean, and awful. Why? Maybe because he’s an extraordinary player. Who knows...I’ve never seen him play so I shouldn’t judge his abilities. After we finish our feast, I head back upstairs to my dorm and go sleep. Thankful for the events of tonight and the friends I have made.

I walk towards Snape's classroom to go retrieve my book I had left there. This isn't going to be fun, it's near curfew and he isn't the nicest teacher. I walk in and see Snape lifting his pant leg to reveal a large gash. I gasp.
"My god sir," I say in shock. I see him look at me in fury. Oh no.
"Miss Ghim! What are you doing?" He asks angrily while dropping his fabric over the cut.
"Sir, let me help you with that," I say. he gets tries to get up and yell at me to get out but he curses under his breath and sits back down. "Please leave Miss Ghim,"
I go to the back of the room and grab rubbing alcohol and bandages and against his heavy protests, clean it and as I start to bandage it he stops protesting.
"How on earth did this happen sir?" I ask quietly.
He refuses to answer and I see Filch running in.
"Well, Thank you Miss Ghim," He says with a small sneer. I could see the shock in his eyes when I started to clean the wound. He must be very surprised.
I leave and walk back to the dorms and change to sleep. I crawl into bed and drift off, never having gotten my book.
I am running through a heavily wooded forest, it's tall trees lingering over me as my feet crunch against the leaf strewn path. As I look back I can see Hagrid's hut on the outskirts of the trees. I keep running, my feet dragging me there without me knowing where I'm going. I keep moving and the scene grows darker and darker. I must be in the forbidden forest. Though my mind tells me to leave my body remains at it's constant rate.
I start to approach the heart of the forest and my pulse quickens and my palms grown moist. I hear a quiet muttering as I grow closer to my goal. I hear hoof beats and the shrieking of a horse.
"It's almost time master," Says a voice.
"Kill the boy!"
"The match! During the match!"
I run faster until I see a hooded figure and I shriek at the sight of a unicorn covered in silver blood. At the sound the figure turns and I hear a strange voice. "Kill the girl!" It yells.
I try to run until I'm grabbed and thrown to the ground. I let out an ear piercing scream. I hear my name being called but it's to far away. The cloaked figure grabs a hold of me and I continue screaming.

I jolt awake, covered in a cold sweat. the girls of my dorm are hovering over me. Two with concern while the other two with scowls. Probably annoyed from me waking them up. I am trembling a little bit but am overall fine I guess. I take a few shaky breaths and slowly get up and look at the clock. It's three in the morning. Great, just great and the day of my first match against Gryffindor also, I had been training with the team a lot lately, Marcus usually ignores me unless he's angry at me. Fine by me. I groan and say sorry to them. Pansy just makes a rude comment and goes back to bed. Riley nods when I tell her at least three times that I'm ok and the rest just go back to bed. I can't really blame them, I'd be ticked if I got woken up. Who was the cloaked figure and why did it kill a unicorn? Who is it going to kill? It's only a dream...Right?
I try to get some sleep, I toss and turn for a while until I finally drift off into a dreamless slumber.
When I walk into the great hall this morning, I'm exhausted. Bags have appeared under my eyes and I drag my feet. I groan as I see the Slytherin table, some probably heard me last night. I decide to sit with the Gryffindors though I get some pretty mean glares. I'm seriously past the point of caring right now. I take a seat next to Fred and George who smile at me widely.
I sit down and not bother touching my food. The nausea had made me lose my appetite. The twins notice my exhaustion and try to force feed me cinnamon rolls. One so I eat and two for the sugar boost. I groan finally giving up and eating them. Will and Riley join me moments later to wish me luck before they head to the pitch.
By eleven it looked as though all of Hogwarts had come to see the match. Kids had brought banners and binoculars. I was walking into the room with my Slytherin uniform already on, knowing I was the only girl. The emerald green made my eyes look like they were glowing. It was really cool.
"Now," Marcus grunts, "We must win, we lose, we fail."
I silently curse at him, helping much?
"No matter what it takes, we can't lose to these filthy Gryffindors." He states.
"Beaters," He says looking at me in particular. "Hit to break skull, show no mercy,"
I stare him straight in the eye, afraid to look away, and nod.
He finishes his "Speech" and leads us out until we stand in front of the opposing team. I see Harry and give him a thumbs up. I see him smile a bit and look at Madam Hooch.
"Now I want a nice fair game, all of you," She says while looking at Flint (Marcus). "Mount your brooms, please."
I hop onto my broom and rise as she blows the whistle and I hear a voice echo through the pitch. I go to the nearest bludger.
"And the quaffle is taken immediately by Angelina Johnson of Gryffindor- What an excellent chaser that girl is, and rather attractive, too-"
        "Sorry, Professor."
I laugh loudly as I zoom around protecting my team mates from that awful ball. I see a Gryffindor out of the corner of my eye dive around flint and I smack the bludger at her, smacking her in the back of the head.
"Off up the field and- OUCH- that must have hurt, hit in the back of the head by a bludger from Sherie Ghim- Quaffle taken by Slytherins-,"
I continue playing as best I can. I believe I'm doing pretty well. I feel bad for hitting that poor girl but it's my job. I see Harry do a couple loops and make him my next target, sorry Harry. I smack it and it shoots towards him like a cannonball. He barely dodges it and Fred goes after it. I here something about the snitch and see Harry and our seeker going after it. He is just about to reach it when, WHAM!, Marcus blocks Harry on purpose, causing a bellow of rage from below. How dare he... I can hear many Gryffindors screaming about a foul.
I hear the announcer getting yelled at until he finally says,
"All right, all right. Flint nearly kills the Gryffindor seeker, which could happen to anyone, I'm sure, so penalty to Gryffindor, taken by Spinnet, who puts it away, no trouble, and we continue to play, Gryffindor in possession. "
I launch another bludger towards Harry and that's when it happens. His broom lurches to the side. He grips it slightly. I see it happen again. I gasp as it nearly throws him off. He has no control at all and it zig zags through the air. I see Marcus get hit by a bludger in the nose. No one even notices Harry as we score.
He starts to roll and I hear collective gasps as he is thrown off and dangling by one hand.
"HARRY!" I scream and fly over to him, along with the twins. Every time we got close the broom it shot higher into the air. The twins circle underneath in case he were to fall and then it was ok. What? He suddenly has control and he is flying towards the ground after the snitch. He is standing on his feet and looks as though he is going to be sick and then the snitch pops out of his mouth. No....He won.  Gryffindor wins. I look over and see that Flint is livid. I was only one game, but everyone is aware of the rivalry between Gryffindor and Slytherin. I have a feeling that Flint will never let us live this down. I fly to ground and walk over to the Gryffindor team. They stop speaking when they see me.
"Good job," I say, "Really, and I'm sorry hitting you in the back of the head," I say to the one girl who is now holding an ice pack.
I see their captain smile and all of them thank me. Next thing I know, I'm being dragged off by an angry Marcus.
"Why the hell did you do that?" He asks angrily.
        "To be nice."
        "We. LOST." He states.
"I know," I say, and walk away from him. I can hear him kick something but pay no attention.

I go back into the bathroom and freshen up, since I'm still covered in sweat. That's the one thing I hate about sports, getting all gross afterwards. Overall the game was a great experience and I had a fun time. I jus hope Marcus won't try and kill me next time. I know that this isn't the end. Trust me on it.
I change into my pajamas and lay down, to exhausted to do anything else. I was very shocked that all of my homework was completed on time considering all the practice I've had to do. I'm not sure how I could have done it without the help of Hermione. She was my life saver. I bow out the lone candle on my nightstand and draw the curtains around me. Finally letting myself get the sleep I need.
