Poor Amber has been bullied for most of her life, but there's one boy who is the harshest of them all. Jake is controlled by his girlfriend, Courtney, to do anything she pleases. Emily is the best friend in love with the boy, Finn, in the bully group. Everyone is wearing a mask. Everyone is in disguise.

12. The Masks Are Off

“Hi Amber,” Courtney doesn’t meet my gaze and sips her coffee.

“I got your letter,” I say. “It still doesn’t help your case.”

“I didn’t think it would help much. I wrote it so you would know a little bit more into whole thing.”

“It confused me.”

“You, jealous of me. That’s impossible.”

“I am though. And I wish we could’ve talked and figured something out long ago. But my brains wasn’t in its right place. I was blinded by jealousy, and I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay.”

“What?” She looks me in the eyes now.

“I accept your apology. Now, I want to get to know you.”

“Really?” Her eyes light up and her mouth forms a small smile.

“I’ll never be able to forget the years of torture you put me through, but I can look past it. We can get to know each other for the real person on the inside.”

“You go first then.”

“Um, okay. If you want me too.”

“I do. Go ahead.”

I smile before starting into my life story. This is the start of something good.

*A Few Weeks Later*

“What’s sad is we have to leave in a few more weeks,” I frown.

“We’ll just have to go somewhere different next year,” Courtney gives my shoulder a squeeze.

“Nate, are you coming back with us?” Finn asks.

“I think I am,” Nate smiles. “Courtney will have to help me pack up my house.”

We all laugh.

“We could help,” Jake says.

“It could be another ways for us to get to know each other,” I say.

“That’s true,” Emily says.

“What now,” Courtney asks.

We all stop walking and look at one another.

“I want to skateboard,” Jake says.

“Me too,” I smile.

“Looks like the rest of us will watch you two,” Finn says.

“We can judge their skills,” Nate chuckles.

“I’m not the greatest though,” I giggle.

“We’ll put that into consideration when we grade you,” Courtney smiles.

For once in the years I’ve known Courtney, I don’t hate her. She is a nice girl. I believe that she did lose sight of the good and focused her hate on me. I can look past that if we can stop being enemies.

*Three Days Before Leaving*

“Packing sucks,” I groan.

“Not only that but this trip went by too fast,” Emily says.

“No doubt about that.”

“A lot of good things have happened.”

“Oh, and I’m glad they did.”

“We made new friends.”

“And I turned an enemy into a friend.”

“I’m glad for that,” Courtney appears in the doorway.

“Are you done packing?” Emily asks.

“Almost. It’s hard because I don’t want to leave.”

“Let’s take a break then. I’m kind of hungry anyways,” I say.

*Three Days Later*

“I really don’t like airports,” I frown.

Jake kisses my cheek, “It’s alright babe. We’ll power through to next summer where we can travel again.”

“I can’t wait to become an American citizen,” Nate smiles.

“Me too,” Courtney snuggles into Nate.

“In just an hour we’ll be on a plane heading back home,” Emily sighs. “It’s crazy all that’s happened this summer.”

“And all that’s going to happen when we get back to school. Kids are going to be so surprised,” Finn says.

“That is so very true,” I smile.

*A Few Hours Later*

“Airplanes are so amazing,” I smile as I gaze out the window.

“What are we going to do this flight?” Jake asks.

I turn to look at him, “Draw for me. Like multiple pages of an old city.”

He smiles, “As long as you talk to me for most of the flight.”

“Deal,” I smile.

*A Few Hours Later*

“Butterflies,” I sigh in happiness. “If I could get a tattoo, I’d have multiple, tiny butterflies.”

“Where?” Jake continues to draw a medieval person.

“Either on my wrist or near my hipbone.”

“Why butterflies?”

“Just because. They’d look cool.”

“I don’t doubt that.”

“I’d also like a rose on my upper arm.”

“You’re becoming a skater girl.”

I smile, “Just a tad.”

“You’ve become a good skateboarder, you know?”

“I guess. Tricks are next.”

“Well, only if you’re comfortable.”

“I am. With all my gear on.”

He chuckles, “Yeah. I wouldn’t want my Bubbles to get hurt.”

“Aw, so sweet Boo,” I lean over and kiss his cheek. “I love you.”

“I love you too,” he smiles.

*First Day Back To School*

It’s been a crazy first day back to school. Lots of people asking about the trip to Paris. Then asking about the new relationships that happened. Everyone is so happy for my friends and me.

“Hey Amber!” a girl I’ve never talked to shouts to me.

“Hi,” I call back and continue walking down the hall. The day is over and I can’t wait to see Jake and all my other friends.

“Hey babe,” Jake grabs my hand as I meet him outside.

“Hello Boo. Ready to hang with everyone else?” I kiss his cheek.

“Of course. Did you have a good first day?”

“Better than most.”

“Our masks are off. The kids are going to see us for who we really are now.”

I smile and nod, “We’re no longer in disguises. I like it.”

“Well, I love you.”

“And I love you.”

And that is the end! Hope you liked it. :D
