Poor Amber has been bullied for most of her life, but there's one boy who is the harshest of them all. Jake is controlled by his girlfriend, Courtney, to do anything she pleases. Emily is the best friend in love with the boy, Finn, in the bully group. Everyone is wearing a mask. Everyone is in disguise.

8. Confessing

Jake takes a deep breath and we stop walking. He stands in front of me and grabs my other hand. “I guess the best way to start out is by saying I never really loved Courtney. All I did was like her a lot. That one day years ago when you were the new girl at school was when I realized that. You caught my eye and I just knew you were the one. It was love at first sight. No matter how cheesy that sounds. I tried to break up with Courtney to get with you, but she always ran to her older brother. He’d threaten me and I was afraid to get hurt. She then made me bully you so you’d hate me. It doesn’t seem that you hate me. But what do I know?”

I wipe my cheeks of the few tears that have fallen. “I don’t hate you. Something inside me clicked when you started bullying me. I knew something was wrong. I kept telling myself that, and I fell in love with you. I love you even though you made school hell for me for a few years. Nothing you did drove me away. I’ll always come back to you because I love you.” Now I’m really crying. Tears are flowing down my cheeks in steady streams.

“Don’t cry Amber. Please don’t cry,” his voice breaks.

I collapse into his chest and he wraps his arms around me. My hands grab the front of his shirt. “I don’t mean to cry,” I somehow say. “It’s just all too much for me.”

He kisses the top of my head a few time. I think I hear him sniffle. “I’m taking you on a date in a few days since I made you cry.”

I sniffle, “Only if we double date with Emily and Finn.”

“That’s fine by me.”

*The Next Day-Early Afternoon*

“When are we going to do the scavenger hunt?” I ask.

“Next week,” Emily answers. She and I are out on a little shopping date for a dress for our double date in two days. We’re also going to a video game store and bookstore.

“Sounds good. So, are you and Finn official?”

“After one date? Yeah,” she smiles. “Jake and you finally spilled to each other. Thank goodness.”

“Yeah. Courtney’s going to be pissed, but oh well.”

“I haven’t seen her for a few days. Not that I care. The room has been nice and quiet without her.”

“True that. So, are you excited for the double date?”

“Of course.”

“Me too.”

~Jake’s POV~

“I’m so proud of you, man,” Finn pats my shoulder.

“Thanks. I just felt like the moment was right and went for it,” I smile. “Now she’s mine.”

“What are you going to tell Courtney?”

“I haven’t seen her, but she knows we’re over.”

“Good. So, have you kissed her on the lips yet?”

“No. Maybe after our double date.”

“You take her to her room and I’ll take Emily to ours. Just let things happen.”

“What do you mean?”

“Bow chick a wow wow,” he smirks.

“We are in the City of Love.”

“What if it messes everything up?”

“It won’t.”

“Is it the right choice since we’ve pretty much just started dating these girls?”

“Listen, it doesn’t have to go all the way. It might not go all the way. You listen to Amber and she’ll tell you what she wants to do.”

I nod, “Okay. I’ve got it.”

“Good. Now let’s go get the girls some necklaces as presents.”

“Okay. Whatever you say. You know girls better than I do.”

*The Next Day-Late Morning*

~Amber’s POV~

“I’m going to fall, Jake,” I squeal as the skateboard starts moving.

“You aren’t,” Jake’s grip on my waist tightens. “I won’t let you fall.”

“This is way harder than I thought it would be.”

“It takes practice to get good. One day I won’t have to hold you.”

“But I like it when you hold me.”

“What video games did you get yesterday?”

“Some old ones for the older Gameboy and newer Gameboy.”

“That’s cool. Get some good books?”

“I think so. They looked good. Have interesting titles. Good first paragraphs.”

“That’s good. Did you get a nice dress?”

“I did and so did Emily. You’ll have to wait and see them on out double date tomorrow.”

“I bet you’ll look as beautiful as ever.”

“Can we take a break from skateboarding and just chill by the fountain?”

“Sure. Anything for you.”

~Emily’s POV~

“Does the restaurant we’re going to tomorrow have an outdoor eating area?” I ask as I snuggle a tad more into Finn’s side.

“It does,” Finn answers. “We’ve reserved a table outside already, so no need to worry.”

“Good. It’s always nice to eat outside.”

“I’m so happy Amber and Jake told each other about their feelings.”

“Me too. I was wondering how much longer it was going to take them.”

“It couldn’t have happened soon enough.”

“Can we order a movie to watch?”

“Sure, I guess. Or we could go walk around outside.”

“Let’s go take a walk.”

*The Next Morning*

~Courtney’s POV~

“You have made my last few days in Paris the best,” I smile over at Nate.

“I’m very lucky to have found you,” Nate smiles back. He has slightly long, bleach blonde hair; green eyes; plump, pink lips; a cute face; 19 years old; strong arms and a six pack. He’s way better than Jake and we can talk for hours. Oh, and he’s French and his accent is adorable.

“What’s our plans for today?” I ask as I walk over and snake my arms around his stomach.

“I was going to make you breakfast. Then after that I was going to take you shopping.”

“That sounds like a perfect plan,” I kiss his cheek.

“That’s not my lips, love,” he smiles and then connects our lips. This boy just might be the one.

*A Few Hours Later*

“Tell me about the group you came here with,” Nate says as we exit his apartment complex.

“Do I have too?” I whine.

“Please. I’d like to know about them.”

“Fine. There’s my ex and his best friend. Then my ex’s new girlfriend and her best friend. I think the best friends got together.”

“So they excluded you from everything they did?”

“They had reasons to.”

“Like what?

“I bullied Amber. She’s Jake’s, my ex, new girlfriend.”

“Why did you bully her?”

“Jake liked her and not me. I guess I was jealous.”

“You need to apologize.”

“Excuse me?”

“I’ll be with you. But you need to apologize to them. Then maybe we can all hang out.”

“When do we have to apologize?”

“You can apologize whenever you feel ready. But you need to do it.”

“Fine. Sometime next week.”

“That’s fine by me.”
