2. War and Peace

Charlie's POV

I decided to spend the afternoon reading in the backyard to try and forget the events of this morning.

I realized this was a bad idea once I saw Luke mounting the fence from his yard.

Once he was over, he started with, "long time, no see."

I laughed shortly as he stood there awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.

"Listen, I'm sorry about this morning, I-"

"There is nothing to apologize for," I quickly cut him off.

"Maybe not, but I should have told you I have a girlfriend from the start. I'm sorry you had to find out the way you did." He sympathetically said.

"Thanks. I appreciate it." I said returning my attention to the book in my hands.

"Oh, what book are you reading?" He asked lightly.

"War and Peace," I responded, a little irritated.

"And what's that about?" he questioned further.

"Luke, don't." I snapped. "I accepted your apology, okay? Your off the hook. Now if you don't mind, I'm trying to read and enjoy this beautiful afternoon, in peace."

Dumbfounded, he pressed, "speaking of beautiful afternoon, have you been to the beach yet? My friends and I are headed there later today. Your welcome to tag along...."

Thinking over the invitation, I hesitantly accepted, concluding that I had nothing to lose anyways.
