3. The Car Ride

Charlie's POV

Upon hearing the deafening car horn blare from my driveway, I cheerfully bid my parents goodbye and kissed my little sister, Isabel, on the forehead.

As I ran down my large front steps, I froze with nerves as I saw a car filled with strangers. Picking up on my hesitation, Luke hopped out of the driver's seat and ran over to where I stood,

"Hey Charlie! Is everything okay?"

"Uhh... Something came up. Have fun though."

As I turned and was about to sprint back up my front steps, Luke grabbed my wrist and spun me back around so I was facing him.

Looking straight into my eyes, he whispered "Please come, the boys really want to meet you."

Reassuring me with a smile, Luke dragged me to the car and pushed me in next to a boy with curly blonde hair and big hazel eyes. Once he noticed me staring, he giggled, "Hey, I'm Ashton."

"Nice to meet you, I'm Charlie."

"Oh right, I forgot to introduce everyone." Luke laughed while starting the car.

"I'm Michael." A boy with bright red hair added from the passenger seat.

"Calum," the boy on the other side of Ashton said.

After the boys introduced themselves, I turned to the three girls occupying the back seat, expecting an introduction. They were too glued to their phones; however, to introduce themselves so Luke added,

"That's Amber, my uh, girlfriend."

Not wanting anything to ruin my good mood, I decided not to take their rudeness personally or be disappointed by the fact that Luke also invited Amber. I distracted myself by tuning into the music on the radio. As Blink 182's "I Miss You" began playing, I forgot where I was and blurted out excitedly,

"No way! I love this song!"

Luke shot a look at me from the rear view mirror,

"Really?" He asked excitedly.

"Well, yeah. I love how the song sounds when I sing and play it on my guitar." I looked down at my hands with embarrassment.

"Me too." Was all he muttered as he noticed the death glare Amber was giving him from the back seat.

The rest of the car ride was uneventful, so I simply stared out the car window, soaking up the passing scenery of my new home.

The sudden jolt of the car abruptly woke me from my thoughts, as Ashton exclaimed,

Jumping out of the drivers seat, Luke ran around the front of the car and opened the car door for me like a true gentleman.

"Why thank you." I gushed at his sweet gesture.

As I climbed out of the car, Amber was antagonizing Luke about his decision to bring me along.

The boys and I walked the rest of the way down to the beach. Luke and Amber walked separate from us, as she continued to complain about my presence. Picking up on bits and pieces of their conversation, I heard Amber gossip,

"Luke she's a freak, why would you stoop so low as to invite someone like her to hang out with us? We have a reputation to uphold."

And Luke shoot back, "Amber she can hear you, and besides you don't even know her."

"Good. She deserves to know the truth." She snapped, practically yelling to make sure I could hear her.

Calum, who was walking next to me, leaned close and whispered, "don't take it personally, she's a bitch to everyone. Besides, I think your great."

Blushing, I shyly thanked him as I tried taking his advice.
