1. Morning

I love early mornings when it feels like the rest of the world is still fast asleep and you're the only one who's awake and everything feels like it isn't real and you kind of forget all your problems because for now it's just you, the world, and the sunrise.

This feeling is the only one that reminds me I'm alive. Although, without a second glance one might say I live a relatively normal life, I have two hard working parents and a little sister named Isabel, a boyfriend, and a great group of friends. Well, I had all of this back in England, before I was forced to move to Sydney, Australia for my dad's work.

With a heavy sigh, I concluded my pity party and rolled out of bed. Standing up too fast, my head throbbed from my lack of sleep. Deciding to clear my head, I quietly tip toed through the maze of unpacked moving boxes to the back patio door. I took a seat by the side of my pool and hesitantly dangled my legs into the cool water. After what seemed like a century of sitting in this same position, the motion of a head popping up over the fence snapped me out of my trance.

"Couldn't sleep?" The voice from the head questioned.

"No, I've always been more of a morning person." I answered with a hint of sarcasm.

"Oh well, I'm Luke. You just moved here, right? I've never seen you before." Said the blonde haired boy.

"Moved in last week, I'm Charlotte but most people call me... Charlie," I said the last part quieter out of embarrassment of my boyish nickname.

"Charlie, I like it." Luke approved, nodding his head.

After an awkward pause, he added, "Mind if I hop over the fence so I can properly introduce myself?"

"I thought you'd never ask," I responded a little too quickly. He giggled as I felt my cheeks heat up from embarrassment.

The rest of the morning we spent talking and laughing with our feet dangling over the side of the pool. In a moment of weakness, Luke wrapped his arms around me and threw me into the crisp, cool water. Gasping for air, I shot above the surface of the water only to see Luke doubled over with laughter on the side of the pool.

"You are really good at making friends" I snipped.

Between giggles he managed to say, "Oh come on, there is no way you didn't see that coming."

"I had my suspicions, but I thought maybe you were one of the mature ones" I shot back, through chattering teeth.

"Okay okay, here let me give you a hand." He reasoned.

"Thanks" I said as he lifted me out of the pool in one swift motion, until our faces were nearly inches apart.

"It's the least I can do for such a beautiful girl." He whispered, his piercing blue eyes staring into mine.

We stayed like this for several seconds, neither of us wanting to move or ruin the moment.

As he was about to say something, his phone went off in his pocket. He pulled it out to reveal the picture of a beautiful girl lighting up its screen.

For some reason, I was a little disappointed when I came to the conclusion that the beautiful girl... is his girlfriend.

"You should probably answer that" I whispered, "It might be important."

"Lukey!" The beautiful girl exclaimed through the phone.

Letting my emotions get the best of me, I mouthed to Luke a quick goodbye and ran inside, shutting the patio door behind me.

Luke's P.O.V.

My heart sank as I pulled my phone out of my pocket to find a picture of Amber lighting up the screen.

Even worse, I could hear the hurt in Charlie's voice as she quickly said goodbye and left.

I climbed back over the fence and walked through the open patio door to find the boys huddled around the kitchen sink.

"What happened man?" Calum and Ashton asked in unison while Michael blurted out, "she's so hot."

"It was going great until Amber called and.."

"Dump her already" the three of them shouted.

"It's not that easy" I mumbled.

"Your right, whatever makes you happy man." Ashton shot back mockingly.

I cringed as he said this, Ashton knows more than anyone how unhappy I am with Amber.

"Yes, thank you Ashton." I said with a hint of sarcasm. "And by the way, I invited Amber to come with us to the beach this afternoon."

"Wtf man, you know we don't like her," Michael whined.

"I agree with Michael, not cool." Calum chimed in.

"She can only come if you invite the girl from this morning, she's crazy hot." Ashton challenged.

"Fine." I smirked, as I walked out of the room.

Once again, my pride has fucked me over, there was no way Charlie would agree to come.
