32. Everything Will Be Alright

Chapter 29

"Everything Will Be Alright"

Avery's POV

I stood in front of the mirror in my room, hating the person staring back at me.

Why would Dan love me?

How could Dan love me?

Why would he even want to marry me?

"Avery?", Phil said as he poked his head in.

"Yeah, I'm over here", I said as I began to straighten my hair.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?", Phil asked.

"Of course, Phil. What's up?", I said.

"Come sit next to me", Phil said as he sat down on my bed and patted the spot next to him.

"Is something wrong?", I asked as I sat down.

"You tell me. You've been acting on edge for the past few days and I'm worried about you. Dan is worried about you. What's going on?", Phil said.

"It's just...with everything going on, I don't know if now is the right time", I said, without making eye contact.

"Hey", Phil said as he lifted my chin so that I was now looking at him, "Everything's going to be alright. You love Dan. Dan loves you. A lot. Whatever happens, you'll have each other", Phil said.

"Thanks, Phil", I smiled.

"Of course. Now, go and get that dress", he said as he patted my back and stood up.

"Mkay", I said as I smiled and stood up.

Ding Ding

I checked my phone and found I had a text from Rachel.

Outside whenever you're ready :)

I grabbed my purse and my phone and left my room in a hurry.

I was about to open the door when Dan called to me from the lounge.

"Avery? Is that you?", he said without getting up.

"Yeah. I'm going out with Rachel today", I said as I entered the lounge.

"Oh, okay. Well have fun", Dan smiled.

"Thanks", I said quietly as I turned around.

"Wait Avery", Dan said as he got up, "What's the matter?"

"N-nothing. I'm alright", I said, looking at the ground.

"You know you can tell me anything, right?", Dan said as he lifted my chin with one hand and put the other on my shoulder.

"Mmhm", I mumbled.

"I know something's bothering you, but we'll talk about it later. Have fun today", he said, lifting my chin and kissing me softly.

"Mkay. See you later", I said.

"Alright. Bye", Dan said as I shut the door.

I took the stairs down to the main floor and walked out into the already busy streets of London. Sure enough, Rachel was standing outside waiting for me.

"Ready to go?", Rachel smiled.

"Yep", I said, putting on a fake smile.

Rachel and I booked an appointment at a bridal shop in downtown London. So the two of us took a cab because neither of us wanted to push and shove our way through the busy London streets.

For the entire car ride, I didn't say anything. I just stared out the window. I had too much on my mind to engage in any kind of conversation.

"Avery?", Rachel said, putting her hand on my shoulder.

"Yeah?", I said.

"Is something bothering you? You haven't been yourself", she said.

"I'm perfectly fine", I lied.

"I know you're lying, but I won't push you to tell me anything. You just tell me when you're ready", Rachel said. I just nodded.

~ At The Bridal Shop ~

Was it really the right time?

Was it really the right time to marry Dan?

I mean with Angelica back and all...

Was it really the right decision?

"Ave? Avery?", Rachel said as she waved her hand in front of my face.

"Hm? What? Oh sorry", I said as I wiped my forehead with the back of my hand.

"What's wrong? What were you thinking about?", Rachel asked with concern.

"Just...about everything that's happened. With Angelica back and all, is it really the right time to marry Dan? Plus I haven't even told my parents yet. I haven't talked to them in so long what will they say?", I said, beginning to panic.

"Hey, listen to me", Rachel said as she put her hands on my shoulders, "Everything's going to be fine. Whatever happens, you and Dan will get through it. Together. Now, let's pick out a wedding dress".

One of the assistants in the shop walked up to us and said, "Hello ladies. Are you two the 4:30 appointment?"

"Yes, we are", Rachel smiled.

"And who's the bride?", the assistant asked.

"That'd be me", I smiled.

"Well, congratulations. My name is Kristi and I will be helping you today. Do you have a style of dress in mind?", she said.

"I don't really like fit and flare or mermaid. And no lace. I like strapless, sweetheart necklines, and dresses that gradually go out", I explained.

"I think we might have what you're looking for", she smiled, "Through that door are dresses that should meet your standards".

"Thank you, Kristi", I smiled.

"Of course. When you're ready, I'll help you with putting the dress on", she said.

"Okay, thanks", I said as Rachel and I entered the room.

All of the dresses were beautiful, but each one had something that bothered me and I just couldn't find THE dress. Some were perfect in every way, but had straps. Others I loved very much, but had too long of a train.

"Avery, I think I found your dress", Rachel smiled.

I turned around and saw Rachel holding the most beautiful dress that I had ever seen. It had a sweetheart neckline and on the top half, there were tiny jewels scattered everywhere and they got smaller and scarcer further down the dress.

"It's beautiful", I said, putting my hand over my mouth.

Rachel and I walked out of the room and found Kristi waiting there for us.

"Have you found a dress you like?", she asked.

"I think we may have found the one", I said, holding up the dress.

"Oh, that is beautiful", Kristi said, examining the dress, "Come on, let's go try it on".

"I'll wait out here for you", Rachel said. I just nodded and followed Kristi into the dressing room.

"So, tell me about him. The man you're marrying. What's he like? How'd you meet him?", Kristi said as she helped me put the dress on.

"We met when I came over to England for school. I was staying with him and his friend. When I got kicked out of my school, they let me stay with them. I've been with them for almost two years now.  He asked me to be his girlfriend over a year and a half ago. I can't explain in words how he makes me feel. I couldn't imagine my life without him", I said.

"And what's his name?", Kristi asked, zipping up the dress.

"Dan Howell", I smiled.

"Wait wait wait wait wait. You're marrying THE Dan Howell?", she asked with wide eyes.

"I take it you're a fan?", I laughed.

"I've been watching him for years! I can't believe you're the lucky one that gets to marry him! Congratulations!", Kristi said.

"Thank you", I smiled.

"Now that I've calmed down, let's go show off this dress", she said.

We walked out of the dressing room to where Rachel was waiting. As soon as she saw me, her jaw dropped.

"Avery, have you seen yourself in the mirror? Because you need to", Rachel said, pointing to the nearest mirror.

I stood in front of the mirror and I almost cried. The dress fit perfectly and it looked so beautiful. It wasn't too big or too small. It was perfect.

"Well, what do you think?", Kristi asked.

"I think...I think I found my wedding dress", I smiled.

"I'm glad you like it", Rachel said, giving me a hug, "Now, let's buy that dress".

~ Back At The Apartment ~

"I'll see you soon, alright?", Rachel said.

"Alright. Bye", I said as I opened the front door of the apartment.

"Bye", she smiled before I closed the door.

I took the bag containing the dress back to my room and collapsed on my bed.

Everything's going to be fine

"Knock knock. Can I come in?", Dan said.

"Yeah", I said into my pillow.

"Avery, will you please tell me what's bothering you?", Dan asked as he sat down on my bed.

"I'm just worried", I said, sitting up.

"About what?", he asked as he put his arm around my shoulder.

I gave him a look as if to say "Do you even know what just happened last week?".

"Ohhh, that", he said.

"I'm worried that she'll try even harder to kill you. I'm worried that...I'm worried that now is the wrong time to get married", I said.

"Hey, look at me. Don't worry about her. I love you and that's all that matters. Whatever happens, you and I will get through it together, alright?", Dan said.

"Alright", I smiled.

"Do you feel better now?", Dan asked.

"Yeah", I smiled.

"Good", Dan said before kissing me softly.
