I am not Broken, I am Broker

A thief, known as the 'Shadow Broker', steals for anyone. If you want anything, anything in the world, all you have to do is talk to him. If you want books, expensive jewelry, money, valuable house hold items, even knives, swords, guns. He gains people's trust, if he believes they won't tell the police about his organization. In exchange for these items that he steals, he gets half the money that they earn if they sell these items. One day, against all odds, he becomes friends with a "customer". Whenever this customer wants Broker to steal from a mansion, everything turns out for the worst.

14. Second Home

Rain has always been my favorite kind of weather, especially while taking a walk. The soft mud beneath my feet alerted me to walk more carefully. Somehow, my mind slipped, thinking Ashes was beside me. "Watch your step man, its-.." I stopped talking when I remembered. The empty space to the right of me, reminded me that Ashes is dead. Seven looked over at me, walking closer to me from the right. He took the spot that Ashes usually walks with me, so that I would feel better. Tears formed in my eyes, but no one could tell whether it was the rain, or tears falling down my right cheek. The sight of our second hideout will be over this hill of dark green grass. "Wow, this is a beautiful area. Why did you guys not use this hideout instead?" Lunar asked. "Because I was attached to our other place. Ashes and I built the first hideout together, then he built this one for me. Ashes surprised me with it a while ago." We all stepped foot over the green hill and there it was, our second home. The door had vines around it, intertwining with each other. It gave off an illusion that the door was built into a tree. Ashes wanted the door to be grey, so we painted it solid grey years ago. Everything looked fine and didn't look like anybody has been bothering our property. What kind of protector would I be if I didn't open the door with caution? I alerted everybody and told them to step back while I opened the door to our new home. My memory was kind of blurry, but I soon remembered that the light switch was on the right as soon as you open the door. The dim light filled the room, making it better to see inside. My eyes scanned the room to make sure nobody was inside of this place. Everything was safe and I let the others know that they can set foot inside. This new home is much more spacious as opposed to our old home. Seven walked in and slumped down on the dark blue couch in the living room. As soon as you walk in, it's a living room. To the right is a long hallway that leads to four bedrooms. To the left, there are four bathrooms, and the kitchen at the very end of the hall. Lunar held onto his clothing after I gave them to him, it wasn't damp from the rain, because I shielded them with my hoodie. Lunar was excited. "Where are the bathrooms in here?" He asked. I pointed to my left, directing him. "Down the hall, there are four doors and they're all bathrooms. You can change in either one." He walked very fast to the first bathroom door, because it was the closest. Lunar stopped at the door. "Do you..mind if I take a shower?" He lives with us now, so he shouldn't have to ask, but I thought it was respectful. "You live with us now don't you? Go ahead. I'll have some food cooked by the time you're out. Take as long as you need." The bathroom door was shut quickly, I went into the kitchen and got out some ingredients I brought from the old hideout. Purple held onto his phone and I could hear him sniffling. I could hear Seven talking to him, but it was hard to hear what he was saying. I hurried, cooking Purple's macaroni so that he wouldn't be hungry. I think he was looking at old texts from Ashes, and grieving. Seven was obviously comforting him and patting Purple's back. Soon after, I was finally done with the cooking, and walked over to Purple and Seven, with two bowls of separate food. Purple grabbed the bowl of the macaroni and I also gave Seven his pasta. "Thanks..dad. I'm starving." Purple's voice was low, sounding quite sad. "Welcome kiddo. Seven, here's your food." Seven grabbed the bowl of pasta and thanked me as well. I've always been an expert at cooking. I could cook two different pots of food at the same time on the stove. An hour has passed since Lunar went into the bathroom, I'm sure he must be enjoying the first shower he's had in years. I remembered that Lunar loved the spaghetti I cooked, so I took out some noodles, and began cooking.

An amazing smell of shampoo, and a mix of body wash filled the entire home. The bathroom door was opened and Lunar stepped out into the living room, wearing his new clothing. His hair was still wet and looked blacker than usual. "Damn, you smell better that's for sure. You don't smell like a sewer now." Seven commented as he ate his pasta. I pushed Seven's shoulder and told him to knock it off. "I was just joking..better than being miserable." Seven got annoyed at me, but I was trying to teach him respect. Lunar was in a good mood and the pants no longer looked tight, and his face wasn't as dirty anymore. "I can barely tell you're the same person. I'm glad I could help out." I smiled and then held out the plate of spaghetti for him. "Here you go, I thought I'd cook some food as you shower." Lunar sat beside Seven, and Purple. Apparently they all notice that I haven't been talking nearly as much as normal. "Your new nick name should be Silencer." Seven was teasing me, but I stood in the kitchen, staring at the Red Velvet cake mix. Ashes favorite kind of dessert was Red Velvet cake. Seven got closer to me and realized I was staring at the cake mix. Seven looked sad all of a sudden and put his hand on my shoulder. "I miss him too..just be glad that Purple and I are safe." Something was missing in his sentence, I corrected him. "Lunar as well. I don't know..I want my best friend back, I just know I'm going to have a hard time getting over this. I had to witness half of his face get shot off..I don't know what I'm going to do..It's hard to forget!" I slammed open the fridge door and lost my appetite, I've not eaten at all the entire day. Seven showed his serious side for once. "There's been stuff in my life that's hard to forget too, Broker. Remember that time you found me on the street after I was badly beaten by my so called mother?" I remembered it all too well and I should be thankful that I did help him out and took him in. "I still remember that, and I was age seven. Ironically that's my name that my bitch of a mother gave me." He sighed and then put his bowl in the sink. "I know Seven..I just worry about one of us getting hurt or killed again. I don't want to see another best friend, or my son, get their face shot off." Seven nodded, in an understanding way. He then knew what I was trying to say, and looked surprised. "Wait..are you saying you want to retire from thieving? Don't you know that if people knew your real name then they will lock you up?" I knew that he was right, but I was beginning to lose all interest in stealing from people. "I'll figure out something..but I don't feel like going on another mission any time soon. You know, David has his gang out there still. The ones that attacked you." I told Seven. "What about them?" He asked as he washed his dishes. To be honest, I wanted to find them somewhere, and kill them off. Memories of Lunar talking about an assassin in our group, flowed through my mind. "I kind of want to find them, and kill them as well." Seven dropped a fork on accident once I told him the reason. "What? That can be very dangerous you know..and plus you never say anything like this." I peeked in the living room and could see Lunar and Purple playing a video game and relaxing. "I know..but sometimes people change, and Lunar mentioned once..that we should have an assassin in our group. I don't think it's a bad idea. I think it's best to have somebody with us that can kill and know how to not get caught. But I know one thing, Purple is NOT to do that kind of job." Seven was shocked at my remarks and sighed. "Well, I don't think any of us are fit to do that kind of stuff, but we will talk about in the future I guess." He walked out of the kitchen and joined Lunar and Purple, and sat back with his hands behind his head.
