I am not Broken, I am Broker

A thief, known as the 'Shadow Broker', steals for anyone. If you want anything, anything in the world, all you have to do is talk to him. If you want books, expensive jewelry, money, valuable house hold items, even knives, swords, guns. He gains people's trust, if he believes they won't tell the police about his organization. In exchange for these items that he steals, he gets half the money that they earn if they sell these items. One day, against all odds, he becomes friends with a "customer". Whenever this customer wants Broker to steal from a mansion, everything turns out for the worst.

13. Reunited

I took off my hoodie, and slowly covered up Ashes body. I had to face my fear and go near his body, and cover him up out of respect. "I'll miss you..I'm sorry I didn't have my sleep darts with me. I'm sorry we got into arguments..and I'm sorry for blaming you for Purple's problems. Thank you for giving me a chance to see you grow up with me as a best friend. I promise I'll find Purple and Seven." I looked away and stood back up and met Lunar outside of the room. "Is he covered..?" Lunar asked. I nodded and then looked back in the room and could barely stand the sight of all the blood. "There are some doors over there by that light." A light was shining bright and I could only see a door knob. My heart can't take the sight of seeing my son or my other best friend dead. There was only one way to find out what's behind that door though. Lunar and I stepped forward, closer to door. I closed my eyes when my hand turned the knob slightly. The door was finally opened and there was nothing but darkness. Walking through this room would be like losing your sight temporarily. The sound of shivering and gasping was heard among the darkness of this room. It sounded like somebody was freezing cold while walking in the snow bare foot. I did not know who it was but I took my lighter out and found a light switch. I flipped the light on and I saw a purple figure, I knew it was Purple hiding in the corner, covering up with his purple hoodie. I ran to him very fast and rubbed his back. "Purple! Hey buddy..are you alright?" He looked happier than a kid on Christmas, and turned to me, giving me a tight hug. I thought I was going to choke to death from the force of his arms around me. He was silent and I started to worry. Taking the hoodie off of his head, I saw that there were cuts and bruises around his neck. "Answer me Purple, are you alright?" Concern was surfacing as I checked his body for more wounds. Usually he always talks to me, but he just stared blankly and with extreme fear. He knew who I was though, or he wouldn't have hugged me. Purple's voice broke as he finally spoke up. "Did..did.." He struggled to ask me a question, as if he didn't want to know the answer. "I'm listening..what is it?" He stood up finally and finished his question. "Did..he kill Ashes..and Seven? I heard a lot of gun shots." I didn't want to tell him the news like this. I didn't want him to walk out of this room to find Ashes body lying there. It's best if I just be truthful with Purple, about Ashes. "Ashes..I saw him get shot. I don't know where Seven is." Purple started to cry and I hugged him and moved my hand across his back. "It's alright buddy..I could barely handle it myself. But you know what?" Purple looked up with red and teary eyes. "What..?" He asked as he was laying his head against my chest for comfort, he was dealing with heavy depression. "Even though we lost someone important, I thought of you and I didn't do anything stupid. We have each other, and then we will find Seven. Alright?" I've always tried to be the one that keeps my loved ones on their feet. I didn't care about if I was falling. If I fell and then see them falling, then I would use the back of their shirt to pull them back up on their feet as I was falling. That is the example I like to use. His eyes lit up whenever I told him that he gave me hope. I had no trust whatsoever to leave Purple in this room, so it will be hard for him to not see Ashes body. An idea popped in my head to avoid him seeing the bloody disaster. "The room that we have to go back through is the room where it..all happened." Purple held onto my shirt and didn't want to walk out the room. "Close your eyes. I'll carry you through to the other side, alright?" He closed his eyes as I picked him up and to be honest I wanted to close my eyes as well, but Purple is only sixteen and he didn't need to see this. Lunar walked with us and he looked at Purple. We made it to the other side of the room and then back into the hallway again. I sat Purple down and he opened his eyes. Purple noticed Lunar was there but he decided to talk anyways, he seems to be getting better socially. "What are you doing here?" Purple whispered to Lunar as he looked unsure and hid behind me. "I came to help Broker out, and to help you all escape this place..I'm not dangerous." Lunar told Purple. I stepped to the side of Purple, patting his shoulder. "It's alright. He's not working for anybody that pose as a threat to us. He did try to help out as best as he could and he was a look out for me. If I trust him, then so can you Purple." Purple looked more comfortable whenever I reassured him. "Alright..then." Purple rubbed his eyes from all of the crying he did. Across from us there was another hallway with a door, this door was white and had a golden door knob. I had a feeling that Seven was locked away in this room. My hands searched my pockets for some lock picks just in case. "Follow me, you two. We need to check this room also." The three of us walked toward the white door and I pulled out a lock pick while Lunar was looking out for any kind of guards, or enemy. Purple was looking out too on the opposite side of me. I unlocked the door and there was a bright light shining on Seven as he was tied to a chair and there was tape around his mouth. From the looks of it, he was unconscious. His head was bowed, and there was blood on his arm. I walked over to Seven as fast as I could and untied him and took the tape off slowly so that I wouldn't hurt his mouth. The way his head was bowed, made me worry that he was in a coma. My hands pat against his face and I begged for him to wake up. I could see his eye lids twitch and then he awoke with a loud gasp and then started kicking at me. "GET AWAY FROM ME! GET AWAY!" He screamed at the top of his lungs, and I was confused. I had to avoid his kicks or else I would have gotten knocked down. "Seven! It's me, Broker." He calmed down and his breathing slowed and then his eyes gained back color. His head bowed again and I positioned my arm under his arm to help him stand after untying him. When he told me to get away, I think that he couldn't see my face well, and he thought I was David. His breath was shallow and I kept checking his heart rate.

Seven's eyes finally fully opened, and then he was able to know who we all were. Seven gripped his forehead and looked at Purple, me, and then Lunar. His face froze whenever he realized Lunar was with us. "Why the hell is he here?" He looked puzzled, then began to ask where Ashes was. "Where's Ashes? Is he okay?" His eyes scanned the entire building to look for Ashes standing somewhere. "No..he got shot in the head. He's..well..gone." I didn't want to say Ashes was dead, because that breaks my heart to admit. Seven reacted with anger, unlike Purple. "Why the fuck did this even happen!? Our fucking hideout gets invaded, and now a best friend of mine is fucking dead!?" He started to punch the wall that was behind him and I stopped him and pulled him away. "Stop it. What are you doing when you punch the wall?" I took his hand and could see the blood on his knuckles. "You are hurting yourself even more. Why hurt yourself physically while going through emotional pain? I understand why you react this way, I killed David out of anger." Seven clenched his fist, ready to punch something again. "I wish I could have killed that moron instead!" Seven said as he panted and was out of breath. Purple looked scared and I could see Lunar patting Purple's back. I appreciated his gesture to comfort Purple. "It's time to get out of here. Let's go back to the hideout for a few minutes..and then resort to the second hideout." Lunar had no idea we had a second hideout. "A second hideout? I had no idea. Where is it located? Why do you have a second one?" He was always the curious one. "We have that one in case we are ever attacked, like lately. We've been attacked and so I can't trust to live at the first one anymore. It's too dangerous. If they want our hideout then they can take it, but I'm not going to sleep at night wondering if one of us are going to die again." We all slowly walked out of the building and the guards that I shot with the sleeping darts earlier, were still knocked out. Purple looked at the guards and kicked one of their legs to make sure they're still sleeping. "How long do..these darts last again?" Purple asked. "About five hours. I arrived here an hour ago. The reason it took so long for me to rescue you guys..is because I had to get back on my feet after witnessing Ashes death.." Purple and Seven looked depressed and Lunar felt sad for all of us. "I can't help but to feel like it's my fault..I'm sorry." Lunar was always apologetic and I turned to him. "Don't keep saying sorry. You're not the one that killed him. Sometimes horrible events take place in life, this is just one of those moments." Lunar looked down and promised he would stop apologizing. After a while of walking, we arrived into the city again. "Are any of you guys hungry?" I asked the entire group and they all shook their head. They were all hungry, so I decided that when we get to our second hideout, I'll cook some macaroni for Purple. I'll cook some pasta for Seven. I had no idea what Lunar liked though. "What kind of food do you like?" I questioned Lunar. "Well..that hot spaghetti that you made once, tasted very amazing." Seven and Purple looked at me. Seven whispered to me as we crossed the street. "Did you give him spaghetti whenever we cooked it?" I wasn't going to lie to him. "Yeah, he would have starved to death. I don't want to be that kind of person. Lighten up Seven." He sighed and kept quiet about his paranoia.

After we got back to the hideout, I was secretly happy that Lunar and Purple were having a nice conversation. I felt proud of Purple for talking to somebody else, that isn't in our group. I told Lunar to wait outside for me to bring out his clothing that I stole for him at the mansion. I took the two shirts and the pants, and walked back outside of the hideout. "Is this good enough?" Lunar stared at the clothing and felt the fabric. He looked ecstatic and held onto the clothes, smiling at me. "Thank you so much..the shirts look amazing..along with the pants. This is the first time I've gotten clothes in about five years." His dirty old pants looked tight on him and he couldn't wait to try on the clothes. "I'll find some place outside to put these on." Lunar said. His smile faded, causing a depressed emotion to appear on his face. "I guess this is goodbye?" He threw the clothes over his shoulder and put his hands in his ragged pants pockets. I moved closer to him and decided to make his day even better. "No, this is hello all over again. Stay with us and live in our other hideout." Lunar looked shocked and couldn't believe what I said. "What? I thought it was against your rule?" Today I changed the rules though. Lunar earned it. "Nah, walk along with us. You've been a good kiddo and I can tell you're humble. Plus you wont have to worry about going hungry, or a place to sleep, or gangs attacking you. You'll have our crazy asses looking out for ya." I smiled and he kinda laughed nervously. "I..if Purple and Seven don't mind..I mean." I slammed open the door to our hideout. Purple and Seven were by the door and I almost accidentally hit them. "Oh damn, I'm sorry guys, didn't know you two were that close to the door." Seven looked annoyed and then walked out of the hideout along with Purple. Seven wasn't acting normal, he would have been joking about the door almost hitting him. We were getting ready to go to our second home. "Lunar's going to live with us. No if's, and's, or buts. I'm not letting him go on the streets anymore. He's helped us out so far and he's trusting." Seven sighed and agreed because I'm the leader. Purple was shy and didn't know what to say. "Well..I guess..welcome to our family Lunar." Purple held out his hand for a handshake and Lunar shook his hand. "Thanks..this is weird though..being accepted by people for once." I closed the door to the hideout. We all began to walk straight forward to our other place. "Get used to it, I'm gonna make sure you don't struggle on the streets anymore. Once we get to our second hideout, then you can try your clothes on. This place is much bigger than the one we were living at." Lunar was very happy, I could tell that he couldn't wait to try on his new clothes.
