Friends Forever

Amber's best friend is Luke Hemmings from down the street. They have been super close since they can remember. She's going to make sure that his dreams come true. Even with some rough patches here and there.

5. Feelings

*A Few Weeks Later*
"I like hanging with you Luke," I sputter out. "But please get off me," I wiggle as I try to push Luke off me. It started as him singing to me, and the next thing I know he's lying across me.
"Nope," he laughs. "I'm comfy."
"I'm not. Please Luke," I pout.
"Want to cuddle?"
"Just get the hell off me," I groan.
He slowly sits up before pulling me into his lap. "Now, what's going in in that pretty little head of yours?"
"What are you talking about?"
"You had a weird look on your face as I sang. Kind of the reason I tackled you. I want you to be happy."
I smile, "I'm happy you care Luke. It’s nothing, really."
"When a girl says it’s nothing something is definitely up. Spill your guts."
"I'm just alone. Like, people are everywhere but I feel so alone. I try to think how my parents hate me and how my brothers will know me as the sister that locked herself in her room and one day disappear. No matter what you say Luke, no matter how many I love you's we say to each other, no matter how much I will myself to forget their sorry asses. It doesn't change anything."
"I'm taking you to get some movies," he helps me stand up.
"What? Where?"
"At the video rental place a train ride over. We've got time, its only midday. Come on." He grabs my hand. "I can distract you from what's troubling you. That's what best friends do."
*An Hour Later*
"I've never been here before," I smile as we enter the video store.

After boarding the train we got lost on the streets. Of course, the problem is we are so young. But Liz let us go because it’s not too far away. After stopping at a small café to get directions, we made it.
"They've got good movies," Luke smiles as he leads the way.
It’s the second aisle we go to that we find a worker. Some boy with straight blonde hair and a fringe. He's putting back DVDs and doesn't really notice us.
"Excuse me," I call out to him as I make my way to him.
He looks up at me and instantly smiles. "Um, hi." His hazel eyes flutter over me, two dimples are present on his cheeks, and his large ass hands have just frozen midway putting DVDs away.
"Do you have any movies you recommend?" I smile back.
"What about just going with the flow and picking out whatever we thought looked cool," Luke comes up behind me and places a hand on my shoulder.
"I've got a few that I really like," the boy says.
"All right, lead the way, um. What's your name?" I ask.
"Ashton Irwin. You two?"
"Luke Hemmings."
"Amber Styles."
"Well, follow me Amber and Luke," Ashton sets down the DVDs he was putting away and starts walking.
"What do you think you're doing?" Luke whispers to me as we follow the worker boy.
"Making a friend and being nice. Jealous much?" I whisper back.
"He has to go through me to be with you. And I bet there's nothing you two have in common."
"We will see, Lucas. Besides, I just want more friends."
Luke has always been so protective, but this is just crazy. Now it makes me wonder about my feelings all over again.
*A Month Later*
It’s been quite interesting this last month. After the video store event, I have been in this constant state of confusion over almost everything! I can't help but think Luke likes me more than just a best friend. I could he wrong because I know he is really protective. Then again, I don't know my own feelings. That Ashton boy was super cute, but is that it. Do I like him or Luke? Ugh, I don't know.
"I'm gonna start," Luke says.
I lie down on his bed and close my eyes. Luke has put up two more videos (Forget You and Fireflies) and is working on another video right now. A song called Opportunity by Pete Murray. He's got a good little fan base going and that's just by himself. I think when Calum and Michael get involved they'll be able to go just a touch farther. I wonder if either of them play the drums. That's always needed in a band.
"Love?" Luke's voice fills my ears.
I flip over so I'm not facing him even though my eyes are closed.
"Yeah," I blink my eyes open. "Do you love me Luke?"
"Of course."
"I've been confused. So confused."
"Over if I love you?"
"Over if you love me too much. If I love you. What I think of that Ashton kid. I'm confused," I feel a tear run down my face.
"I love you like a friend. Friendship love. Same for you to me, right?"
"I think."
"And that Ashton kid seems nice. I'm not sure where it will go though. That's up to you."
"Okay. It still doesn't help my brain. Confusion."
"Can I try something?"
"Sit up and look at me."
I slowly sit up and look at Luke. Wiping my face dry.
He sets his guitar carefully on the floor and stands up, quickly walks over to me and leans close to my face. Noses touching. "Tell me if you feel anything, alright?"
Then he connects our lips. It’s weird to have your first kiss with your very best friend. I'm not sure what I feel. I can feel my cheeks heat up. And my head pound. But I don't know if I feel fireworks or what those even feel like.
He pulls away and just stares at me.
"I felt, stuff. You?" I question.
"I figured out we are just friends."
"Okay. I still love you."
"I love you too. Ya crazy."
I smile and then am pushed down in his bed. Lips attached to mine again.
He pulls away after a little bit and rolls over pulling me onto his chest.
"Just friends?" I giggle.
"You sure?"
"Do you like someone else?"
"Oh, alright."
"Just want to take a nap?"
Well, now I'm even more confused than when the day started.
*A Few Days Later*
It has been kind of awkward now that Luke has kissed me. Whenever we pass each other in the halls at school or at home we don't know what to do. We usually smile awkwardly at each other and try not to blush. Of course, we can still play video games, cuddle on the couch and watch TV, and he can still sing to me without any awkwardness.
I don't want to deal with him and awkwardness right now, so I've decided to chill at the small coffee shop not too far from the house.
"Is this seat taken?" A boy’s voice fills my ears.
I look up and see the video store boy: Ashton. "Oh no. Take it."
He smiles before sitting down in the seat across from me. "What are you doing here all alone? Where's your boyfriend?"
"Luke? Oh, he's not my boyfriend, and I just needed to clear my head."
"Oh, Luke's just a friend?"
"My best friend. But he's confusing me. I don't know if he wants to be more than that. I don't know if I want to be more than that."
"If he wanted to be more than just friends I think he'd have said something. Amber, was it?"
I nod.
"Well, Amber, if he wants you he doesn't have to do much to get you. And feelings are confusing. I know. I've had quite a few girlfriends and I've never really felt anything. I think."
"Why are you here, Ashton?" I giggle.
"Can't a guy enjoy coffee?" He laughs and I feel happiness in his laugh.
"I guess he can."
*An Hour Later*

After talking to Ashton for quite some time, we both realized we should head home. He offered to wall me home, but I decline not wanting Luke to see.
"How was the coffee?" Luke asks as I sit down next to him on the couch.
"It was good," I smile.
"Who'd you see?"
"Um, that Ashton kid. He helped me relax and figure out a few things."
"Like what?"
"Just stuff. He's two year older than us."
"That's nice."
"And he listens and is funny. Oh, and he has dimples. Like you do in your one cheek."
"Checking him out?"
"I had to look at his face, Lucas. We were talking."
"About what?"
"I told you already."
"I know you Amber. Spill."
"Um, well, we talked feelings. Like how I feel towards you and you towards me. I didn't say anything about what I think of him. He helped me get me less confused."
"So, what did you figure out?"
"That we really are just friends. And that I might have a shot with that Ashton kid."
"He gave me his phone number. And email just in case. He wanted to walk me home but I said no."
"Well, I'm happy for you. You deserve a good guy."
"That's it? That's all you have to say?! I can't believe you!" I hop off the couch and rush to my room, flopping onto my bed and shoving my head into my pillow, letting out a scream of frustration.
"What was I supposed to say!?" Luke shouts as loud as he can at me.
I wanted you to say “Be mine” or anything like that. I guess you don't care. Ashton, here I come.

Hope you liked it! :D
