On the 11th of January 1937 Johnathon Ignes is born. He is a suitable weight, in good health...but different from all the other babies in the ward, because he is born immune to guilt. 2 years and 235 days later, worldwide war breaks out.
Sent away as an evacuee, Johnathon grows up away from his mother, and meets Erebus, a cheeky paperboy. Erebus too, has no guilt, and under his influence, Johnathon grows up into a monster.
This is the story of how that monster, became a leader.

27. Chapter 26

Over the next two years a lot changed for the Soul community. Songbirds were welcomed kindly, and as more and more were found the understanding of them developed. Songbirds developed their hypnotic gift at different ages, some around the age of 13, some around the age of 18, some around the age of 25. Felicity was in the end, not the first, but she was one of the most influential. Eloise took her under her wing, and she became another side-kick, along with Chloe. On the 19th of November 1970 Hannah gave birth to a baby boy whom she and Tao decided to name Leo. Soon after Eloise’s sister Amelia birthed a beautiful baby boy called Peter on the 2nd of January 1971, and Eloise left her a little anonymous gift for good measure. Johnathon however, changed little. He stayed the same stubborn careless man he had always been. The day this first started to change was in fact Erebus’s 46th Birthday (not that age mattered much to him anymore) when they went out for a night of drinks and disaster.

5th August 1972:

“Urgh,” Erebus groaned as he leant against the bar, “How many pints have I had?”

“Only three,” Johnathon replied, “You’re such a light weight…”

“Am not!” Erebus raised his voice, “I’m up for another round. Who is next to pay?”

“The one with the brown hair…Ed I think his name is” Johnathon told him.

“Oi Ed!” Erebus signalled him over, “It’s your turn.”

“Sorry gents, I’m done now, gotta get home to the wife and kids you see” Ed apologised half-heartedly, placing his coat on as he did so. Erebus scowled, not satisfied by his excuses. Still, Ed ignored his glare, and left the establishment casually.

“I’m on it,” Johnathon cut him off, knowing what his request would have been, “Consider it a birthday present”.

Johnathon left the bar, and headed towards the exit, barging through people as he did so. He felt the outline of his dagger from inside his pocket as he rushed along, ready to strike. His eyes focused on the door, and in his attentive state he did not see the handle curve, and it open from the other side, hitting him flat in the face and causing him to stumble to the floor.

“I am so sorry” a female reached out her hand to help him up. Johnathon brushed it away, too proud to accept her assistance. As he stood up he caught a glimpse of the lady who’d caused his accident, and froze.

You could hardly see her face through the thick layers of mangled ginger curls that fell to an inch below her shoulders, creating a blanket of warmth around her face. Her chocolate brown eyes melted your concentration when you looked into them, and shone slightly in the moonlight. She grinned so that her lips curved to the right of her face, rather than spreading out evening to each side, as if she were shy about smiling. Her slightly tanned skin was decorated by a scattering of bright freckles, mainly around her cheeks and nose. She was like a ball of colour, oranges and red merged with her pink complexion, the exact opposite of Johnathon’s black, white, and green shades.

“Are you alright?” She checked with him, obviously concerned about the incident.

“I’m fine. Thank you.” Johnathon spoke in brief sentences, not quite knowing what to say.

“Well…okay then” she walked away all too quickly, joining a cluster of girls in the corner.

It was odd for Johnathon too look at them, giggling away, a whole group of women, yet none enticed him like the ginger girl. Like his vision zoned in on her in particular with no consent from him. When she was with them she might have been alone, the same image was placed into Johnathon’s mind either way. Tilting his head to one side, Johnathon debated how best to act upon this strange sensation. Being slightly cowardly, he did nothing, and ran back to Erebus at the bar.

“Did you do it?” Erebus asked as soon as he sat down.

“Do what?”

“Kill the guy” Erebus reminded him. Johnathon bit his lip, only just remembering why he had gotten up from his seat in the first place.

“Oh… no. I forgot.” He confessed, his brow creasing in confusion.

“You forgot?” Erebus didn’t quite believe it.

“Yeah…I got distracted for a moment, some girl swung the door in my face” Johnathon tried to explain it.

“Never mind, we’ll see him again in a few days anyway, we can do it then.” Erebus shrugged it off, all of his focus on the killing of Ed…

Whilst all of Johnathon’s remained on the girl with ginger hair.
