Broken and Scarred

Homeless and no where to go, Rose has been on her own for a few years now. The LA streets are what she calls home. Until her life starts to take a ride for the better.

9. The Past

*A Week Later*
~Rose’s POV~
I'm outside chilling on a beach chair enjoying the L.A. weather while enjoying another amazing book by James Patterson. Go read his books, he's amazing.

Anyways, I've got some sunglasses on and barely see the shadow of a person come over me.
They give my leg a shake and I look up to see Mason. "Good day Mason," I smile as I set my book down on my lap and push my sunglasses up onto the top of my head. Mason looks very hot standing in front of me wearing swimming trunks and the water shimmering in the sunlight all over his body. What the hell am I saying? I can't be falling for him.
"Come swim with me," he says. "Right now."
"You're lucky I'm at a good stopping place," I put a bookmark in my book and put it down on the chair as I stand up. Then I toss my sunglasses on top of it and take off my robe. Revealing my yellow with blue polka dot bikini. "A dip would be nice," I smile as I walk around Mason to the diving board. I dive in and when surface Mason is coming towards me. I help him out by swim a little ways towards him.
"That was a nice dive," he grabs my arm and pulls me towards him. "Are you happy now?"
"I've got a Rose and Kristy designed room and a ton of books. I'm in a house for once. I'm swimming and just doing my thing whenever. Not to mention doing some school work now and again with the other girls. Yes, I guess you could say I'm happy."
"So I guess you could say I did what I said I'd do. Make you happy."
"You could say that. Thanks, for everything."
"We've barely done anything."
"Then I hope it gets even better."
He smiles and then the next thing I know is his lips are on mine.
I push him away, "Mason, no. Please, don't."
"Why? It’s a perfect moment."
"It wasn't perfect to me," I try and get out of his grip, but he just pulls me closer.
"Love is in the air Rose. Can't you feel it?"
"It’s in the air for everyone but me. Kristy can be with James and I'm fine with that. She deserves love. Laurel can love Alex since he's the first boy to listen to her. But me, I don't want to love. Love leads to hurt."
"You think I'd hurt you?"
"Its facts Mason. I'll get hurt some way or another."
"Throw facts out the window, Rose. Let your heart love. When was the last time you loved?"
"Years and years ago."
"Let me help you love again. Please. All your friends want it."
"I don't know if I can," I look down.
He raises my head up with his finger under my chin. "Let me help you."
"Fix me. Please," I whisper, not able to control the words that slip past my lips.
"I will. You've just got to let me."
"I let you."
Then he leans in and connects out lips again. This time I don't push away. He's going to fix me. Or so he says.
*Two Weeks Later*

Everyone burst out laughing as Nudge licks some whipped cream off Lily's face.
"This is nice," I smile. "Like really nice. We've all got someone and we're hanging out together. Like a big happy family."
Mason pulls me even closer to him, my back pushed up against his chest. "Everyone's just really surprised you finally admitted you liked me."
"I never admitted that. I just said he's very attractive and very nice and-"
"She told me she loved him," Kristy says.
"Just say you like him," Lily whines.
"Fine. I like Mason."
"I like you too, Rose," Mason kisses the top of my head.
"So much love in this room," Laurel smiles as she looks at Alex.
"Amen Nudge," I sigh.
"What'd she say?" Lily asks.
"Not sure. Just agreeing with her because she's always right," I smile.
Lily smiles back.
"So, Rose, don't mean to be pushy, but it’s been a month," Kristy says.
"So?" James asks.
"Are you guys really counting the months you've been here?" Alex asks.
"No, we're counting the weeks," Laurel jokes.

Everyone laughs.
"She said one month ago she'd tell us her past in a month’s time," Kristy says. "Are you comfortable with us Rose to tell us who you really are?"
"I think so," I swallow the lump in my throat.
"I'm right here if your need anything," Mason gives my shoulders a small squeeze.
"Well, I might as well dive in," I take a deep breath. Here goes nothing.

"You all know the famous Jill and John Baker, right?" I ask.
"Yeah," everyone but Lily answers back.
"The famous movie couple," James says.
"Then you know that they played in tons of movies about the mafia. What you don't know is they actually were part of the mafia."
"What does this have to do with you?" Kristy asks.
"I'm their kid. The kid no one ever talked about because I wasn't supposed to be born. I grew up around people who were cold blooded killers. I had to learn so many different things. Fighting styles, how to throw a knife, how to shoot a gun, and lots of different things. All without ever getting love from my parents."
"Rose..." is all Laurel can say.
"Eventually I got to be in movies and was recognized by someone. People loved me. Not for long though. My parents forced me out of movies because I was getting too much attention. So I became no one again."
"People found out they were doing something bad," Alex says.
"Correct, that's when they were in that car crash and killed. At that time I was with a guy and he said he was going to protect me. He gave me up to the mafia. As you can see, I escaped. And I've been living on the streets ever since. Hidden from the world."
"That's, interesting," James says.
"You didn't want us to know because you think we'd treat you differently," Kristy says. "Knowing you once had millions. The stories not that bad though."
"Not that bad!" I explode. "Let me get into more detail for you. From the time I could walk I was being train to defend myself. I lived everyday knowing fully well anyone at any moment could kill me. My parents were taken from me and I had to live in the streets. My brother doesn't love me because I was a better fighter than him. I have scars all over that I can't remember how I got them. What fight did this one come from again?"
"Rose, deep breath," Mason says.
"No, I want to make sure you guys understand how this is a past I want to forget. As I said before, my parents didn't love me," I continue on my angry rampage. "I never got to tell my mom what happened at school. I never when to a father daughter dance with my dad. They could've cared less what I did. So when I stared in a few movies, they had to squash my happiness. Then when I got my first boyfriend, the forbid me to see him and forced me to see another guy."
"We're sorry Rose," Kristy says. "I'm sorry."
"Are you? Because I still don't think you get it. My life was a living hell! I never had anything fun to do. All fun was replaced with training. I had to sneak away to read a book. A book! Now tell me my story isn't that bad."
"Guys, can you please leave," Mason says. "I want a little alone time with Rose."
Everyone stands up and leaves the room. Saying sorry as they walk out.
"Why'd you make them leave?" I burst out of his grip to turn and look at him.
"So you could calm down," he stands up.
I stand up as well and look him in the eye. "I wanted them to know my life was tough before this. They didn't believe me. I hate my past. It’s something I don't want to talk about. You guys wanted to know, now you know. Let's never talk about it again."
"We won't," Mason steps closer to me. "Never again. Now, what can I do to make you happy again?"
"Snuggling and watching Disney movies," I say shyly.
"Ah, the cute side of Rose," he smiles. "I like this side of you."
I smile, "Come on, let's head to your room."
He gives me a quick kiss, "Let's go."
