Broken and Scarred

Homeless and no where to go, Rose has been on her own for a few years now. The LA streets are what she calls home. Until her life starts to take a ride for the better.

12. Broken

~James' POV~

It’s been really hard this past week. No one’s happy and it’s really off putting.
"James," Lily comes into the living room and sits next to me on the couch.
"Yeah Lily," I give her a smile.
"I want to do something to make the others happy."
"As do I."
"Do you have any ideas?"
"I was thinking we could go on a little outing."
"That's a good idea. Like to a restaurant or what?"
"Maybe we could take everyone to the movies."
"That sounds like fun. I haven't been to a theater in a long time."
"Then it’s settled, we are going to see a movie tomorrow."
"Okay, I'll go tell all the others. I hope they'll want to come."
This ten year old little girl is going to grow up to be a wonderful woman one day. She wants the best for others and is putting herself second. It’s amazing. I wonder why she came to me though. Maybe because I'm the oldest and kind of call all the shots.
I just hope that everyone wants to come. With everyone being so sad, I'm not sure who will come.
*The Next Day-Early Evening*
~Rose's POV~
"I'm really sorry guys," I give a weak smile. "But I swear it is a headache and not me not wanting to go to the movies."
"We'll miss you," Kristy says. "But you can just come the next time."
"Yeah, definitely."
"Mason, you staying with your girlfriend?" James asks.
"Yeah," Mason puts an arm around my waist. "Have fun guys."
They all smile at us, "Bye."
"You two have fun as well," Laurel says.
Then they all turn and walk out the front door.
"So, what are we gonna do?" Mason asks.
"I just want to lie down," I say.
"You know, I have a natural way to get rid of your headache," he smirks.
"And what it that?"
He takes on long stride to stand by my side and whispers in my ear, "I want to show you just how much I love you."
I feel a shiver run down my spine, "Really? Well, show me to your room."
"So you are really going to do it with me."
"I love you Mason. Of course I want to do it with you. I think I'll be with you for the rest of my life."
"I love you too, Rose. I know we'll be together for the rest of our lives," he kisses my temple. "Now come on. A bed is waiting for us."
*The Next Morning*
I wake up tangled with Mason. The only thing that catches me off guard is that we're both naked. Well, kind of. I'm wearing his boxers. "Mason," I mumble.
"Rose, what now?" Mason smiles.
I kiss his cheek, "We did it. And I don't think the others should ever know."
"So know what?"
"Well, I think we should go take a shower. Are you wearing my boxers?"
"I am."
"How did that happen?"
"I'm not sure. Let's go take that shower."
*A Few Hours Later*
"We were going to go into your room," Kristy says. "But your door was looked."
"Did you guys just go to sleep once we left?" James asks.
"Yeah," Mason smiles. "Rose took some aspirin and then was out like a light."
"It’s true," I smile. "My headache is gone now. So that's all that really matters."
"I hope you can come next time," Lily smiles. "I'm just glad everyone is acting happier. I'm so glad."
"Me too," Laurel says.
"It’s like we're all back to normal," Alex says.
"Good, we should go out on big outings more often," Kristy says.
"Once every other week," Lily smiles.
"That sounds perfect," I smile.
*A Few Weeks Later*
I'm outside chilling on a pool chair. Engrossed in yet another book and listening to some music.
Just this past week we went to the zoo as our group outing. It was extremely fun since I've never been to a zoo before. It was pretty big and there were so many different animals. I'm almost positive everyone had a great time.
Anyways, I've been having a bad feeling for the last few days. And Mason's been kind of distant. It’s kind of confusing to me since we admitted out love to each other. I feel we should be so much closer. I guess he needs space just like I needed space.
"Hey babe," Mason walks up to me and sits down on the edge of the pool chair.
"Yeah Mason," I put my book down and look at him.
"I've been thinking about a lot of things lately..." he trails off.
"Okay. And?"
"We need to talk."
"About what?" I ask. I'm getting kind of scared.
"Our relationship," he says.
"What about it? I think it’s doing pretty good."
"I think we should break up."
"The hell? What for?"
"I just think we should. I'm not sure why, but something is telling me we should."
"Really? After everything we've been through!" I'm on the edge of tears. "I thought you loved me!"
"I do. And I'm sorry. But I think this is for the best."
I grab all my stuff and quickly get out of the chair. "Don't talk to me again Mason! I hate you!"
"Rose, wait!"
"No. You saved my life and you told me I didn't have to repay you in anyway. So leave me alone!" Then I storm off. Tears flooding out of my eyes. I can't believe he just did that. Breaking my heart after I thought he really loved me. Well I guess not. Looks like I was right. Love always leads to being hurt.
*A Few Days Later*

As I walk down the hall I have to past Mason. He gives me a smile and I just glare at him. For some reason he thinks I can forgive him. I'm not going to forgive him for what he did to me.
I make my way to the kitchen and start making some breakfast.
"Rose talk to me," Mason comes into the room.
"Kristy! I need some help!" I shout out.
"Coming!" Kristy shouts back.
Minutes later Kristy comes into the kitchen. "Oh, Mason." She pushes past him and comes over to me.
"Are you mad at me too?" Mason asks.
"You broke my friend, and I don't appreciate. So please go."
"I'm sorry Rose. I really am." Then he turns and leaves the room.
I take a deep breath, "Thanks Kristy. You're a true friend."
"He broke your heart and I can't accept that," Kristy says.
"I don't know what I did. I thought we were going fine. He said he loved me."
"Forget him. He's a loser for leaving you. You'll find someone else who's perfect for you."
"I don't think I'll ever find someone as perfect as him. Why? Why did this happen to me?"
*That Night*
"This is crazy," Kristy says.
"You guys haven't gone out in the field for a long time," Laurel says. "Why now?"
"They need our help," James says. "We've got to go help."
"You guys will be extra careful, right?" Lily asks.
"Of course," Mason says.
"We're always careful," Alex says.
"How long is it going to take?" I ask.
"Just a few hours," James answers. "You can stay up. You girls can do it."
"I think we'll do that," Laurel says.
"It'll be hard to fall asleep knowing you guys are putting yourselves in danger," Kristy says.
"So is this guy a really big bad guy?" I ask.
"Kind of," Mason answers. "Drug dealer and that kind of stuff."
"And we better get going if we're gonna meet the time," Alex says.
"Alex is right. Be good girls," James says.
"Bye boys. Be safe," Lily says.
The boys stand up and walk out of the room and I hear the front door open and close.
"I have a bad feeling about all this," I say.
"Me too," Kristy says.
"And it’s very unsettling," Laurel says.
