Tom headed to North Shields where he iced his boxed fish and awaited the auction.

He made a good price for his catch today it was maybe his best price.

He drove home.

He washed and changed then sat down to drink several cups of tea because his pot was smashed.

He spooned sugar into the cup and then was about to put it back when it dropped from his fingers on the floor; he went to pick it up and saw an envelope. Tom picked it up and it was addressed to Tim care of his parents.

Tom opened the envelope and read the letter. He held back his tears as he carried on reading.

His son had had won the National Artists Guild award for his three paintings called “The Boy and the Seagull” he had also been accepted to attend the Royal College of Arts on a scholarship. There was a presentation to be held this Friday in London.

Tom ran out of the house and got into his car he drove to his in laws and knocked on the door.

Is Eva there Peggy; would you ask her to come to the door please.

“I. I don’t know if… “It’s alright mam I will speak to him.

Eva came to the door and looked at Tom who looked decidedly better than she had seen him in a long time. The red eyes were now clear and he looked alert.

“I thought that you might want to read this.’ Tom handed Eva the letter which she quickly read.

He’s got to go to London this Friday. Here; take this and get yourself a new outfit and a suit for Tim.

There’s too much here Tom I don’t need it all. ‘

“Get yourself a new hairdo as well.’ He winked at her then got back into the car and drove away.’

Over the next four days Tom fished twice a day and had made over two thousand pounds on his catches. On the Friday Morning he drove to London in his new suit and tie and brand new shoes.

He walked into the Civic Hall; Tom sat at the back he could see his son and his mother; she looked beautiful she had had her hair cut in a modern seventies look It was brushed back with a fringe level with her eyebrows; the back and was cut into her neck that made her look even sexier than before. She wore a double chained diamante necklace with a pendant. Her make up was perfect; she even wore a softer coloured lipstick which complemented the white low cut dress that she was wearing with silver stilettos. Every man in the room was watching her. She oozed class.
