Over the next three months Eva and Tom continued to go out together Nora and Geordie Shotton were getting pretty serious too.

It was on one Saturday evening when Eva asked Tom to come up stairs with her.

“Is that you Eva shouted her mother as usual.

“Yes mam.’

“Get yourself straight to bed. It’s after twelve and your father has work in the morning and I have church.

“Alright mam I’m going.’

Eva put her fingers to her lips to indicate to Tom to be quiet, then led him to her room and closed the door.

Nervously Eva kissed him then said you will be careful won’t you Tom. I don’t want to get pregnant.’

“Course I will, don’t worry he said as he took her to bed.

Tom left the house at five in the morning; it was cold and there was dampness in the air. The steam from his hot breath floated upwards as he made his way to the train station. There would be no buses until six o’clock so the train was his only way to get home. He bought a ticket then pushed through the turnstile. Walking down the ramp he felt good; the wait had been worth it, Eva had given herself to him completely; they had made love for over four hours before they both lay back and stared at the ceiling.

Tom sneaked out to the bathroom then tiptoed back to the room where he began to get dressed, Tom looked at the pretty flowered wall paper in the room and the pink coloured carpet that Eva had bought and paid for herself. There was a marbled effect dressing table with a mirror and a matching chest of drawers near the window and an ottoman at the foot of the bed against the wall. The wardrobe was an old brown thing that looked out of place in the room. Tom sat on the edge of the bed lacing up his shoes as Eva said will I see you on Friday night then Tom?

“Yes pet; I think we will go to the Plaza ballroom.’

“Alright; I will meet you outside at seven.’ I will ask Nora and Geordie to come along.’

“Okay suit yourself love, I’ve got to go. Getting up from the bed Tom put on his jacket that was hanging on a coat hook on the back of the door. He leaned over and kissed Eva then gave her a cheeky wink then opened the door gently and then walked down the stairs trying not to make a sound. He turned the knob on the front door then gently closed it behind him. The train arrived and Tom got on it. He was the only passenger until they reached Tynemouth station. When the train had arrived in Cullercoats he got off run up the flight of stairs and over the footbridge to the other side.
