They took the bus home and Toms jaw was swelling up. Eva looked at him and said you are going to need some ice on that jaw of yours.’

“It’ll be alright tomorrow. Well thank you for a wonderful evening Tom; certainly one I won’t forget.’

“Pictures tomorrow night then at least I won’t be seen in the dark.’

“Alright but we will go to the Princess it’s nearer for both of us.’

“Okay I will meet you outside at 6:30p.m.’

Eva kissed him again then she went down the stairs and left the bus. She looked up and waved then continued to walk towards West Percy Road.

Tom watched until she disappeared around the corner.

It was after twelve by the time Tom got home he only had an ice lolly in the fridge so he wrapped it in a hanky and applied it to his Jaw.

He lay on his bed and smiled knowing that he hadn’t disgraced himself in front of Eva.

“He picked up the Evening Chronicle and looked to see what was on at the pictures tomorrow night.

“A night to remember was showing with Kenneth More and Honor Blackman. Tom laughed; it certainly was a night to remember he thought. He undressed then slid under the covers.

He was soon asleep and the ice lolly melted away in the bowl.

Eva was telling Nora her friend what had happened at the hoppings and how Tom had got a draw against a professional wrestler.

“I’ve now got three goldfish to look after; “I had to ask a shop keeper I know for a big glass sweet jar to put them in as the goldfish bowl was too small.’

“Are you still seeing Geordie?

“Yes,’ we are going to the Princess to night

“Eva laughed then told Nora that she was also.

“The two girls hugged.

“I think that Tom Lawson is growing on you.’

“He is Nora and hey when I saw him without his shirt on in that ring last night I couldn’t sleep thinking about him.’

Again the two girls laughed then carried on with their work because their boss was giving them funny looks.

Both women talked throughout their lunch break then again when they returned.
