6. The Lie

"Alright?" they ask;

It's the same each day.

"How you doing?"

"How is your life?"

"Are you okay?"

"Fine," you reply.

"Really, I'm just tired."

They never think-

They do not know

That you just lied.

"How did you sleep?"

The questions won't quit.

You want to scream

With frustration.

They don't get it.

It isn't long

Before you don't know

How to answer.

What do you say

When they ask you

"What are those cuts?"

"Why d'you eat so much."

"Your eyes are red?"

"Where did you go,

That time, that day?"

Then it get's worse.

"Don't be so sad."

"It's not that hard.

"You can choose

To be happy."

"Others have it worse."

"I know how you feel."

"You know, just the other day I -"

"SHUT UP!

Just shut up.

You don't know how I feel

So please don't pretend

That you understand.

Because, I assure you,

You really don't."

Next come the doctors

Who are trained to help

But they just push pills

Or say you should talk.

As if you haven't tried that?

One day you find

Out how to deal with

All of your shit.

Next time they ask

(You know they will).

"Alright?" they ask;

It's the same each day.

"How you doing?"

"How is your life?"

"Are you okay?"

"Fine," you reply.

"Really, I'm just tired."

They never think-

They do not know

That you just lied.
