8. Massacre

When Morgan arrived at the library, Superquack was still there. She quickly located him and called, "Superquack!"

"Don't yell in the library!" Superquack whispered loudly.

"I know how to find our enemy!" Morgan replied. As she spoke, she realized her tone nearly mimicked Superquack's.

"How?" Superquack asked.

"Come with me," she said, and pulled him out of the library by his left arm.

"So, what's your plan?" Superquack asked.

"Remember that feature I put in your suit?" Morgan pointed to the dot at the top of it. "It tells you where everyone is. Just say the name...and the suit will reply." She pushed it. "The cloaked figure we saw."

All of a sudden the suit seemed to speak of its own accord. "Town square."

"Is she accompanied by cuckoo clocks?" Morgan asked.

"Yes," said the suit's voice.

"Gotta go."

"She is headed toward her base."

"Thanks," Morgan replied, and turned.

"Wait!" Superquack called. "I'm going with you."

"No," said Morgan.

"No?" Superquack repeated.

"You're not armed. You'll die--and painfully."

"I see your point," said Superquack. "I'll bide my time. But if something goes wrong, give me a call."

"Kay," said Morgan. After leaving, she rented a speeder. Then she drove it to the town square. A lot of sound was coming from the candy store. Morgan went to investigate.

When Morgan arrived at the candy store, she climbed onto the roof of a nearby building to avoid discovery. Sure enough, the same cloaked figure she had seen in the base arrived at the candy store a moment later. A squad of cuckoo clocks accompanied her.

And then, a traumatizing sight greeted Morgan. The cloaked figure pulled back her hood, revealing the grim expression on Sarah's face! She then took off her cloak entirely, revealing the suit Morgan had made mere days ago. It can't be! she thought.

Upon her arrival, Sarah ignited her sword. Engaging in a rampant killing spree, she destroyed the unarmed men before looking to her other targets. The clocks opened fire as well, taking out several customers. Sarah first slaughtered several women, as well as two children, before deflecting a bullet from a man attempting to stop her. The remaining customers fled. Sarah went after them and killed three more before a kid pleaded for his life. She pulled back to listen.

"Stop!" he said. "No!"

"Why?" Sarah asked flatly.

"Everyone needs candy! The statue of Liberty lets immigrants know they've reached--" He did not have time to finish; Sarah slashed him promptly.

Sarah then entered the store itself and strode after and killed 11 customers while the manager watched in horror. The remaining shoppers fled, but Sarah pursued and impaled them. Sarah finally cornered the manager, who also pleaded for his life. "Why are you doing this?" he asked.

"I only take the candy to burn it whole," Sarah replied, and executed him. As she began to survey the carnage, she said, "Cuckoo clocks, strip the sweets from the shelves. The incinerator at base awaits."

Meanwhile, Morgan ducked behind the wall and called Superquack hastily. "Superquack! I've located the villain!"

"Good!" Superquack replied through his comlink. He had anticipated her call. "Who is it?"

"Sarah," Morgan replied, biting off the words coldly.

"What?" Superquack replied. "I thought she was such a nice girl!"

"I know," said Morgan. "I'd better tell Macroburst."

"That would break his heart," Superquack replied, "but it's the only choice."

Morgan hung up and gave Macroburst a call. "Hey! Macroburst!" The adjoining line stopped buzzing, but no "hello" came. Finally, she said, "Macroburst! It's me, Morgan!"

Moment of silence. She heard a thunking sound on the other line, then the phone hung up. "Oh dear," said Morgan, and pocketed the comlink. As she saw Sarah leaving, she pulled it out again. "Superquack, Macroburst tried to answer, but for some reason he couldn't hear me." She turned. "I'm headed toward the base."

Mounting her speeder bike, Morgan headed off to the base, still remembering it to be at the edge of the forest. After crossing the bridge and hitching a turbolift, she stepped out into a higher corridor. "This looks familiar," she said to herself. She began walking. "I wonder what they do here."

After a few more twists and turns, she stepped into an observation tower overlooking a facility. Ahead of her was every form of machinery on a variety of conveyor belts weaving in a maze. Everywhere she looked, cuckoo clocks were being manufactured.

Ducking back, Morgan realized that this could only mean one thing...

They're mobilizing an army!

Morgan rushed downstairs and into an antechamber.

Just then, she got a call from Superquack. She picked up the comlink. "Yes?"

"Morgan?" Superquack said. "I'm going to Macroburst's house."

"Okay," she said. Suddenly, she turned. "Hey, look! Brownies!" Morgan dropped her comlink and rushed for a plate of brownies left in the open.

"Morgan, no!" Superquack shouted, but it was too late. As Morgan reached for the first brownie, a cage slammed down, trapping her. Hearing the metallic slam, Superquack groaned. "That old cookie trap."

At that moment, Sarah came in with one of her allies. She was still wearing the suit Morgan had made her. "That's Morgan, all right."

"Mm-hm," said her ally.
