Why I Love My Best Friend

What my best friend did when she found out I wasn't having a birthday.

1. Why I Love My Best Friend

This picture of me and my best friend is not nearly the most attractive or flattering of us. Neither can I say that it is the worst. However, if she sees this one, I am dead. Little does she know how much this picture means to me.

It was taken a year ago at her house on my sixteenth birthday. My family has always been tight on money so I wasn't surprised when they told me that they would not pay for me to have a party that year. But I was turning sixteen and was determined not to have a party at my house. Also, my house is quite small so it would not have been that much of a party. So I saved for months in order to pay for a party. Long story short, due to my own foolishness and putting details that I shouldn't have into an online questionnaire, I racked up a very large phone bill. I spent my party money on the phone bill and had to cancel my birthday. Needless to say, I wasn't feeling great. So I hid in my room and wallowed in my misery and self pity. People were happy to just leave me there. Everyone except my best friend. She ambushed me in school and told me that I was coming for a sleepover at her house on Saturday. When I got home she pestered me via Facebook, texts and email. I have to say this for her, she is very stubborn.

So I turned up at her house on Saturday at six o'clock to find a mini birthday cake, a present and a steaming mug of hot chocolate with all the trimmings, including a chocolate flake. She also had an entire itinerary planned which included a marathon session of my favourite T.V show, manicures and home made face masks. The picture above shows the results of the home made face masks, which actually worked rather well and tasted delicious as it was made from greek yoghurt, honey and oats.

All in all, it was one of the best evenings I had had in a long time. She knows how to make me laugh and smile when no one else can. She knows every little detail about my life. In fact, she probably knows me better than anyone else , including myself. What makes her all the more epic is the fact that she was not satisfied with one of my best birthdays ever. She spent an entire year planning a surprise party filled with all my favourite people, foods and activities. That's what makes this picture so special. It reminds me that even in my darkest hour, my best friend can lift me up. I don't care if she kills me for putting this picture up online because she thinks she looks silly. I love this picture. But not nearly enough as much as I love her.

Thanks for always being there and making me smile.
