"Uh.. Hey, Niall," I stammer as I look at his face. He rubs his palms on his khaki pants, clearly also very nervous.
He smiles at me before responding. "Hey, there, Billie."
"How did you find me?" I ask, without intending to. I look around and notice that he's attracted the attention of a few people in the bakery. Though, it's very busy almost always so not too many people notice him in the crowd of people. "I'm sorry," I say, "I didn't mean to ask like that-"
"Sallia told me that I could find you here. You left so quickly last night, and I was hoping to get your number." He smiles at me, "If you want to give it to me. I figured that we could hang out before I leave town, or something."
A smile makes it's way to my face, which causes his to grow wider. "Or something."
"So is that a yes?"
"A yes to hang out?" A slight smirk emerges on my face. "I can do a yes to hanging out, or something."
We stood for a moment smiling at one another, in an almost awkward state, until a young girl of about thirteen screams, "Oh my god! You're Niall Horan!" Many, many people turn our way.
"What time do you get off?" he asks, hurriedly.
"See you then." With a wink and a flash of his perfect teeth, he was out the door. Following him were about half of the customers who were previously standing in here.
I turn and see Amelia and Rob standing at the counter, almost shocked. "So, Blondie again?" Rob says, as a sneer forms on his face. "Didn't realize you two planned to meet up again while you were supposed to be working."
Amelia hits his arm. "Oh you heard mom," she exclaims, her voice getting slightly higher as she listens to someones order. "She told him to come and find her here!" She turns to me with a grin on her face. "This is so exciting! You're going on a date with Niall Horan from One Direction. Who knew you could get a boy to even like you? You have, like, zero personality. But maybe he's into that."
I roll my eyes at her. I most certainly do have a personality, it's just for a different type of person, even if Amelia totally gets me, it'd be a lie if I said that we're not totally different people. "First and foremost, we are not going on a date. We're hanging out."
"Or something," Rob adds with an eye roll. This upsets me a little. If he was overprotective of me like a brother, I wouldn't mind. Instead, he acts like he is my boyfriend and I shouldn't so much as speak to another boy.
"Whatever," I say, unwilling to argue. "I have to go kill time decorating until five."
For what feels like days, but is in reality only a few hours, I decorate and clean, but all only half-assed, if I'm totally honest with myself. Not surprisingly, I'm very attracted to Niall. I think we had an instant connection. But, I know that with him travelling around the world, getting attached probably isn't a good idea. Actually, it is undoubtedly a bad idea.
"Are you overthinking this?" Amelia asks me, bringing my focus back into reality. "Because you can't be. He's standing in the lobby."
"Oh God, I look a mess, don't I?" I ask. "Do you think it would be too much to ask him to come back to the apartment so I can change?"
She chuckles, "I'm pretty sure he took a cab here, so he's at your mercy for the whole driving issue. Also, I'm sure he wouldn't mind. We live like ten minutes away." I sigh in relief, but she's not done speaking. "But we did drive here together this morning."
"You'd like to come in the car and meet him, right?" I conclude, rolling my eyes in the most playful way. "Of course you can, you know that. Plus, he'll have to let me go change if I have to drive you home anyways."
She winks and holds out her arm for me to link mine in with hers. I smile at my best friend as we exit the kitchen. And there I see Niall, and my fears from earlier are gone.
