The day has come, In my earlier logs I had described how the overseers had been dangling hope in our faces like it was a lure into death, but they are finally hosting missions into the outside. They had described that since we don't have anymore food we have to scout outside soon, but we don't have proper radiation suits against the new enviroment. Because of this we will probobly die, but my group and I have signed up, and ten minutes later we were leaving with small guns, knives, and water with some food for us.
The outside was a lot worse than we had origionally thought it would be, the sun is not visible through the pollution clouds in the sky, the air we had expected would be refreshing and nice was hot, humid, and disgusting. The radiation was obviously a problem, we could already feel it pulsing through us like a new set of muscles, contort our organs with sickening labor, and reform our genetics with searing pain. Our faces were contorted in pain, and the door behind us had sealed quickly to the sounds of our painful screams, and the hot disqusting air.
My primal instincts were based down to protecting the child I had worked so hard to keep alive, and in the haze of pain, fear and anger, I had crawled over to the screaming and crying body of Mary. As I had slowly slipped into an unconscious state I had cradled Mary in my arms in a desperate attempt to save her, the darkness creeping into my vision further pained me to stay awake in this awful torture, but for Mary, I would. All of my friends at this point are either dead or unconscious, I was the only one staying awake, Mary had passed out from the pain in my arms, while I cradled her the burning sensation of radiation changing what I am constantly plagued my thoughts, and my feelings had been reduced to pain, fear, and to protect the child.
My child, My Mary had been through enough, and I wasn't letting her die so easily, and every minute that passed was another minute of me checking if she was still breathing or if her heart was beating. At this point I noticed I was no longer in pain, the burning sensation had been reduced to a slight twinge of pain, like a burn from a pan or from food that was a little too hot, my fingertips were numb from me digging them into the ground, and my legs felt stiff, I must have been here for hours. My thoughts instantly returned to Mary, and I attempted to shake her awake, at the slight josteling she moved in discomfort of being awoke from a deep sleep, and her eye fluttered open with what I expect to be the pain I now feel.
My friends had later returned to full consciousness after slight movement to their bodies, and to them, they had experienced the same feelings and pain, durring and after their unconsciousness. We had no actual differences about us, except we were used to the polluted air and used to the heat, the radiation at this level didn't seem to affect us anymore, and we felt reguvinized for the jurney ahead of us. Our selves didn't feel any different and we were heading off, although we found that we were changed more than we thought. We were extremely unfamiliar with the terrain, and we had some injuries on the occassion, that is when we found out. Mary had stepped on a rock wrong and had twisted her ankle, I lowered my self down and looked at the injury, and it was most likely a sprain. To double check and to see if she could still walk , I had picked up her foot to do a small diognosis of her ankle condition, and instantly I had felt fatigued. My vision had gone black at the edges and a migrane had formed behind my eyes, and I had begun to feel the heat of the radiation again, and I had lost all consciousness.
After a while, aparently, I had woken back up with no recolection of what had happened after the searing migrane, Everything else I could recall, down to the hotness of the radiation and the black at the edge of my eyes. After I had passed out Mary's ankle had reguvinated it's strength imediatly and she had been able to walk again, They said it was a sight to see, to bad I'll most likely never be able to see it if I pass out everytime I somehow magically heal something or someone.
To what they had described, they had not only saw it happen, they could feel it happen aparently. What they describe is that after I had grabbed hold of Mary's foot an enormous amount of heat that they could only describe as 'more radiation' coming from me and the wound, Mary had also described a slight burning pain in her ankle when she had felt the radiation coming off of me. After words the radiation had dialed back while you could clearly see the swelling in the ankle rapidly decrease and the bruises fade away as the blood had been rushed back into the blood stream. They could only describe it in more fancy words like 'Magic'.
After hearing all of this, even for the person who did it, it sounds a little hallucinagetic. My only theories are that the radiation of this new world definitely changed them more than they had thought. If this happened to him, than it had probobly happened to all of the others as well, either it being the same side affect, or them all having their own new unique attributes to their human genetic codes. My only explanation for what happened with me would be the radiation, My new genetic encoding might allow me to take in the surrounding radiation and apply it to wounds or maybe other things, allowing me to change their structure or state of matter.
It's been a week now, and living in the radiation is now no different than living without it, except for how we've been change in genetic encoding, we feel the same. Recently we have been searching for civilizations, or some people other than us that can live out here now, but all we've found are mutated creatures like rats, pigs, and cows that had survived the first blast from the atomic war, and then were mutated by the wave of un-contained radiation. After encountering these mutated animals, we had sampled their meat to see if they would be a controlable source of food or nurishment. Most of the meat was fine, stringy and definitely mutated but fine, so the animals were a no go on the food scene.
After a while we encountered ruins, and they looked like they could be scavenged, or even made a base of operations. We had traveled pretty far from the safehouse, and we were glad to be finally rid of it, who says we have to help them after all they have done to us? Thats what we kept telling ourselves, that the overseers didn't deserve this information, but the people who weren't cannibals did. So that is why we are still helping even though we don't want to help those savages.
After obtaining this small information, we started to head back to the safehouse, Gracie insisted that she could be there and back in about 3 hours, but I assured that traveling together would be the best option of course, we don't know what hostile creatures could be out here, especially when they might have more help than you.
