"Ian..?" The first words out of my mouth came slowly as shock surfaced. How had he gotten away? How had he made it here? Why did he leave me to a crazy asshole underwater?
"Yes?" His voice is so calm, so smooth. It's like ten minutes ago he wasn't fighting one of the top hottest guys on planet earth. Leo...
"What happened?" Why did you leave me?
He started his words slowly. "Well... after I warned you, I ran to the top of the hill, crossed the bridge-"
"There was a bridge?"
"-to get a better look. I was going to jump in the water myself after seeing you were trapped, but you handled yourself just fine." He smiles.
"I guess..." Why wasn't I going off on him? He sat there and watched me almost get kidnapped again!
"And after I saw you swimming this way, I decided: Hey, I'll make my way over there too. And here you are."
"That doesn't cover everything."
"It does for the question you asked me."
"Ok, then. How did you know I was being held prisoner? How did you know how to get in? To fond me? Why did you want to rescue me? What-"
"Whoa there. Slow down, one question at a time. But to answer your questions: I knew my way in because I trained there. I grew up there. I made my first and final mistake there." He shudders. "And how did I know you were in there? It's hard to miss a person screaming and kicking people to let them go."
This was news to me. Kicking and screaming? The last thing I remembered was being grabbed. "So...why did you want to help me in the first place?"
He looks at me with a smirk."You're a big deal."
I roll my eyes. "Yeah, yeah. I know that already.Daughter of the leader of the revived, fighting the bad dudes, blah blah blah. You still had a choice. Why?"
"Because we need you. And don't disregard the importance of your part in this. You'll probably be our major fighter."
"Major fighter? I can barely through a punch. Even if you try to train me, it wont help. I'll still be a fish out of water. And anyways, when did you get so technical and...vocabularized?"
He snorts. "'Vocabularized' isn't a word."
"Yeah? Well, in Emily talk it is. Start talking."
He shakes his head with a smile. "Whatever. Anyways, before I was so rudely interrupted-"
"I didn't interrupt you."
"You just did. So anyways, we will take you back home and you'll be trained there. Your father would kill us if anything happened to you, and that's a risk I'm not willing to take." He winces."That man is scary."
A thought pops into my head. "By the way, why haven't I met my father yet? Doesn't he want to see me?"
"Sure he does. He just wants you to be a real revived first."
That irritated me." A real revived? Haven't I already died? Shouldn't that count as one?"
"Not in your father's eyes."
"Yeah, well, then he is one blind motherfucker. 'Not a real revived?'" I shake my head. "You know what? He can go fuck himself. It's not like yesterday I was alive or anything, and my whole world was just flipped out from under me. It's not like I have a life to go back to. It's not like I died or anything. So, yeah, good luck to you. I'm leaving." I try to walk out of the tent, but Ian blocks my way.
"Hold on. I'm not done yet."
I cross my arms over my chest. "What is it then?"
" Look...don't trust Leo. He may have revived you, but that doesn't mean anything. He wants to use you for power. To win the war. He's on the bad side. And don't tell your friends either. Or your family. About any of this."
I huff. "Well, no shit Sherlock. I'm not just gonna walk through the gosh darn door and be like, 'hey, mom! Guess what? I died yesterday,I was kidnapped, you aren't my real family- and oh yeah, I have to help lead an army into war.'" I roll my eyes. "I'm not that stupid you know."
He nods. "Good. I'll call for Marzen to take you home."
Hold on...where were we exactly? Talk about slow reaction. My mind had been so boggled up with other thoughts I hadn't asked where we freaking were. "Uh...where are we?"\
"About six miles away from your house."
I blink. "Wow... the revived really suck at kidnapping."
He sighs, and Marzen comes into the tent. After receiving instructions from Ian, he takes me home.
When I walk through the door, two angry faces greet me. "Where in hell have you been!?"
Looks like my family had to tell the two people I did not want finding out....
My two best friends.
