I gasped as I felt my body being shook. I coughed and sputtered as I flung myself upright. I looked around, my chest heaving up and down. My eyes locked with worried brown ones. I was confused. I had no idea where I was.

"Are you ok, Luke?"

I looked up to into the worried brown eyes of one of my teachers. I was unable to speak. My whole body ached. Lungs burning as they tried to catch up with my body's need.

"Lucas? What happened"

I gulped as I looked at the people surrounding me, two teachers and a few students. I wasn't about to tell them what had happened. I wasn't going to tell them I had been beaten and nearly drowned. I looked down at my shoes, mud covering most of my view of them.

"Nothing." I mumbled keeping my eyes down.

"That's hard to believe."

I stayed silent, suddenly interested in the earth that stained my jeans. What had happened? I was dragged from my tent, beaten, and nearly drowned in the lake. The lake. The boys had left me at the lake. So how was I here? I averted my eyes up and made eye contact with the first person I saw.

"How did I get here?" I asked feeling my throat become dry.

The girl I was looking at frowned, "What do you mean?"

"They left me at the lake." I whispered.

"Who did?" A teacher asked moving in closer.

I shook my head," How did I get here?"

"We just found you." The girl said looking concerned.

I frowned.

"C'mon. We need to get you to a doctor."

"What? No, I'm fine." I said rushing to get up. I hissed as my body refused to do as I wanted it to, a stinging pain radiating throughout it.

"Boy's, help me." A male teacher said as he advanced towards me.

At the same time they picked me up and I yelled out in pain. I didn't know what hurt worse, receiving the beating or the after math of it. Hot pain numbed my senses as they carried me through the campsite. I could hear the faint echo of talking but paid no mind to what they were saying. All I could focus on was the need to get rid of the pain.

My eyelids became heavy as we reached one of the cars. One of the boys opened the door and they gently put me in, fastening my seat belt. I made a face as a sharp pain made its way down my side. Letting out a breath I turned towards the window as someone opened the driver side door. I squinted my eyes as I saw a bush move. It's probably a bunny. My eyes fluttered as they landed on a shadowed figure. Frowning, I let the darkness consume me.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

I grimaced as I opened my eyes only to shut them quickly due to blinding white light. Sucking in a breath, the pain made itself known again. Slowly I opened my eyes, letting them adjust. Blinking, I looked around. The room was a sterile white with bleached accessories. The air smelled like chemicals and latex.

I looked down and saw needles poking out of my arms. My eyes grew as I registered everything. I was in the hospital. The beeping from the machines quickly became annoying.  Grinding my teeth, I struggled to sit up. Once I was sitting at a somewhat up-right angle I huffed out a breath. A rattling noise made me look up as the door opened.

"Luke!" Michael said running over to the side of my bed, Calum close behind.

I gave them a small smile but said nothing.

"How are you?" Calum asked as he took a seat in the corner.

"I feel like I just got hit with a car." I said giving them a sarcastic smile.

"Well don't rub it in." Michael fired back.

"Ha ha." I said flipping him off.

Both of then laughed.

"No, seriously though, how are you?" He asked tapping one the machines I was hooked up to. It beeped and he gasped, jumping back.

I laughed and shook my head," I'm ok I guess."

"What even happened?" Calum asked.

"Um, a few boys from the football team decided to rearrange me and then see if I could swim." I said putting my head back on the pillows.

Both of them gasped

"What the fuck?" Michael asked gritting his teeth.

I looked over at him and I could visibly see his anger radiating off of him. Michael had always stood up for me since third grade. He always made sure I wasn't bullied, or tried to at least. I forgot how many times he's been suspended for beating up my bullies. I don't know what I would do with him or Calum for that matter. Calum had gotten suspended twice for me in the past two years. The boys on the football team didn't take a particular liking to me after they found out I was gay, and they continue to show me every chance they get.

"Mikey, hey, it's ok. It's over and done with." I said hoping he wouldn't storm out of the room and go on a punching spree.

"Fuck too it's ok! This is not ok, Luke. I've had enough of this!" He all but yelled.

"I agree." Calum said standing up and coming closer.

"Guys, what's the point! You guys will just get suspended again and I'll have to eat luch by myself. So why don't you just calm down and write a strongly worded letter or something." I huffed out.

Micheal rolled his eyes and Calum let out a small chuckle. Calum opened his mouth to say something but the door opening cut him short. We all looked over to see my mom, a teacher, and a doctor walk through the door.

"Hello, I'm doctor Wayland." A middle aged man said giving me a warm smile.

I nodded and gave him a small smile.

"Well, Lucas, you took quite the spill." He said lifting up papers on his clipboard.

I could feel my face contort into a look of uter shock. Spill? I took a spill?! What had they told the doctor? I looked over at the teacher and raised an eyebrow. He shrugged and I turned my attention to my mom. Worry and sadness coated her features. I sighed and looked down.

"Yeah, a spill." I mumbled picking at the blankets.

"You have severe bruising on your ribs and-" I zoned out as the doctor continued to talk.

I saw movement in the corner of my eye and I whipped my head up. A person was passing the room and their shadow outlined their presence. I blinked. A shadow. The shadow. The figure.

I looked over at the people in front of me," Who was that person in the treeline?"
