My brain was hectic. This was really happening.
I searched the train for open spots. So far, nothing. All the way in the back was where I found an empty compartment. The only person sitting in it was a boy with his nose into a Muggle book. The only reason I knew it was a Muggle book was because the cover didn't move. I rapped on the glass. The boy motioned for me to come in without looking up from his book. "May I sit with you?" The boy immediately stopped reading and stood up. I obviously was mistaken for someone else. I looked in his eyes. They were much more mature than the average 11 year old would've had. His face was scarred slightly, and blond-brown hair swept just under his right eyebrow.
"Yes -erm- I don't see why not." His eyes softened and I dragged my trunk in. "I can help you with that if you'd like." He said as he motioned toward my trunk. "I'm Remus by the way. Remus Lupin." He smiled slightly and took my trunk. He put it on the rack above.
"Thank you, Remus. I'm Melanie. Melanie Bagtrab." I gave him a bright smile and sat down opposite him.
"My friends might come in here soon. Oh, just a warning, two of the three are prats." He said with an extreme look of seriousness on his face.
"That's okay with me. What are their names?" I asked him.
"Well -erm- there is Sirius Black. He is one of the prats, and has longer hair than the second prat, James Potter. James has uncontrollable hair, and glasses. Peter Pettigrew is the smallest out of all of us." He had just finished as a boy opened the compartment door.
The first one in line was obviously Sirius. He had black hair and a good look to him. He had perfect features and a fantastic grin. The boy who followed behind him was James. Remus was right when he talked about his hair, it really looked uncontrollable. His glasses were crooked and had behind the lenses beautiful brown eyes. Finally there was a rather small boy toward the back, Peter no doubt. His eyes were beady and his face mousy, very short. All of them stopped when the saw me. "Remus, care to introduce us to your beautiful friend here?" Said Sirius sitting beside me. He made me blush, I chuckled because he was the first one to ever make me. "What's wrong? Do you like what you see?" He stood up and turned in a circle. I shook my head and smirked. "What is it then?" He seemed intrigued.
"No one, not even my -erm- family has ever made me blush." I chucked.
"I am honored to be the first then." He bowed and then sat back down.
"Remus, introduction?" He said politely.
"Sirius, James, Peter, this is Melanie Bagtrab. Melanie, these are the friends I was telling you about."
"Hello." I said. I would've stood up but my feet were glued to the floor. James sat down beside Remus without even saying hello. Peter sat down beside James. I was by the window, Sirius beside me. He put his arm behind me, but didn't touch me. I looked out the window briefly. We still hadn't left the station. I had no parents, only the orphanage.
"Aren't you going to wave when we leave?" Sirius asked.
"Oh, no. I don't have a family." I said. "Remus, what book are you reading?"
"Never heard of that one." He went back to his book, looking a little awkward, just like the other boys sitting beside him.
"You don't have a family? I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything." Sirius blurted.
"Oh, I don't mind. I'm actually quite used to it." I smiled at him. He gave a slight smile in return. No one said anything for a while. Then finally after we leaved the station, James asked me a question.
"What's your blood type?" His question caught me off guard.
"I think my mum was the witch and my dad was the Muggle, so I'm a half-blood." I yawned. James just nodded then peeked over at Remus' book.
"You can use my pillow if you want to go to sleep." Said Sirius as he got up and reached for his trunk. He pulled a fluffy pillow from it.
"Sirius, I couldn't it's only a few hours until-"
"Just use it." He said he threw the pillow beside me. I sighed and grabbed the pillow.
"You're lucky I don't drool, Black." I curled up into a ball and shut my eyes. I felt something grab my ankles. I gave a miniature scream as I opened my eyes to see Sirius pulling my feet over his lap, straightening my legs.
"You know, you really shouldn't restrict yourself to such a small space." He smirked. I tried to pull my feet free. After about ten attempts I gave up. I just smiled, shook my head, and closed my eyes.
I heard a loud booming sound. My eyes flashed open. I saw a quiet Remus, with another book. James trading cards with Peter, and Sirius examining my shoes closely. I heard a sound again. I looked out the window. Rain. Thunder. Lighting. I sat up. "How long was I asleep?" I obviously startled Sirius, because he jumped a little. I took my feet back.
"About two hours." Said Remus, putting down his book. I sighed and handed Sirius his pillow.
"You keep it." He said with a smile.
"Are you sure. It's a nice pillow." He chuckled.
"Positive." I just smiled and nodded I put the pillow in my trunk. I pulled out my black robes. "Why are you getting them out now?"
"Just being prepared."
"You really are right to be, we are nearly there." Said Remus, his voice muffled by the book being so close to his face. I slipped on my robes and sat back down. James was staring at me intensely.
"You two look cute together. That's all."
Sirius flashed a look to James. I was confused. "Stop it! I just met her!" I now understood, my eyes widened.
I shook my head and looked out the window, "Nothing."
Sirius was quiet.
I was quiet.
James was quiet.
Peter was quiet.
Remus was reading, but still quiet.
We arrived at Hogwarts. It was gorgeous. We got sorted. All Gryffindors. Let the fun begin.
