Broken Bounds

Family is power. The Original Vampire family swore it to each other a thousand years ago. They pledged to remain together, always and forever. Now, centuries have passed and the bonds of family are broken. Time, tragedy, and hunger for power have torn The Original Family apart. And that may be Elaine Mikaelson's breaking point.

3. Always and Forever |Pt.3|

Three

Elaine stood by a window as she watched a couple walk by the house. They laughed and shared kisses, showing as much of PDA. She felt as though she's been alone for years. But that wasn't the case at all. There was once a time she had her other half. That was a long time ago.
She felt a presence behind her, "Where are you going?" She asked. She knew Elijah too well to know he would want to follow Klaus and try and help him. Or at least stop that poor bastard. That was her opinion.
"To find out who's making a move against our brother. And then I'll either stop them...or I'll help them, depending on my mood." He said. Elaine nodded. In vampire speed she made it to the door and grabbed her coat from the hanger.
She turned the knob and looked back at Elijah, "Well, come on then. We ain't got all day," she then thought of something, "If it involves Klaus. I suppose this will take forever," she shook her head, "I don't want to waste my life on that moron." She said. Elijah just chuckled and followed his sister out the house.

|Narcissistic and Paranoid|

"So what brings you to the Big Easy?" Asked Camille as she served Elaine and Elijah their drinks. Elaine took a sip the minute the glass hit the table. Music played in the background.
Elaine looked at Camille, "We used to live here." She said as her lips crossed the glass from her cup.
Camille leaned forward a bit, "Really, when?"
"Oh, it feels like a hundred years ago." Elijah joked, but it was the truth.
"I just moved here myself. What brought you back?" Camille Questioned.
"Well, our brother's here somewhere. I'm afraid he might have got himself into a bit of a bind." Elijah said slowly as he looked down at his glass.
Camille got down to get another cup, "You say that like it's a common occurrence." She said confused.
Elaine laughed, "Well . . . he's complicated. Defiant, ill-mannered, and a little temperamental." She said, detailing him perfectly, "See, we don't share the same father. Of course that never bothered me, but our brother resents it deeply. Never felt like he belongs." She explained.
"All told, he has a long history of getting himself into trouble." Elijah added.
Camille nodded, "And I'm guessing you have a long history of getting him out of it." Camille asked as she looked at the them. Elijah and Elaine nodded and smiled.
"What kind of bind is your brother in?" Camille asked.
"He believes there are people in this town that are conspiring against him." Elijah said. Elaine thought of the time Klaus had feasted on a man very viciously. And the other time he had thrown a stake straight into another vampires heart.
Camille nodded with wide eyes, "Wow. Narcissistic and paranoid." She shook her head as Elijah folded his hands. Elaine observed her interest, and Camille noticed, "Sorry. Bartender with a grad degree in psychology. Total cliché." She laughed softly as Elaine nodded towards her.
Elijah read her nameplate, "Listen, Camille, I'm looking for someone who might shed some light on his current predicament. She works here, Jane-Anne Deveraux. Any idea where I might find her?" He asked.

"No," she hesitated, "But I know someone who might."

A little late

A street in New Orleans. It was dark, just some bright signs can be seen. A female tour guide talked to some tourists.

"Welcome to New Orleans, and the crown jewel of the Crescent city, the French Quarter," Sabine spread her arms and gestured to her surroundings, "Jazz and jambalaya, romance, poetry, not to mention the things that go bump in the night," Jazz played as they passed a fortune teller, "Monsters that feed off human blood, vengeful spirits of the dead, and my personal favorite, the witches," they stopped at front of a shop, "Here we have the voodoo shop, Jardin Gris. Go on, browse for a hex." Said Sabine. The tourists entered the shop while Sabine stood outside, taking a few steps towards the two people who stood standing near the shop.
"Are you going to continue following me, or do you wanna talk?" Sabine looked at the them carefully, "Elijah and Elaine Mikaelson."
"You know who we are." Elijah asked. It was rare for someone to know you but you don't know them.
"Original vampires, the men always wear suits," Sabine said, "And the women always stayed together with any of the family members," Elijah smiled, "You and your family are famous amongst the witches, especially with your . . . brother and back in town." She informed.
"Niklaus is here because he learned that a witch was conspiring against him. Someone by the name of Jane-Anne Deveraux." Elijah said.
Sabine's look saddened, "Well, if he's looking for Jane Anne, he's a little late--." She said, her voice sharp and a bit angry.
       "Hold up--." Elaine interrupted.
"Are you telling me she's dead?" Elijah added.
"Come on, her sister Sophie's gonna want to talk to you." Sabine said as she leaded the way to a passageway and stopping a little further to show us a small group crowding around an unconscious body. A dead body.

I never said you could move the body

There was a crowd of witches. They stood, kneeling and crouching sadly around the body of their fallen friend, Jane-Anne. The body layed on the ground, obviously dead, with blood on its neck. There were some flowers and candles around the corpse. Sophie Deveraux sat near her sister, weeping silently. All of the witches looked depressed.
Elaine, Elijah and Sabine, the witch tour guide, appeared. They were truly shocked. They stopped a few hundred meters away from the mourning witches.
"That's Jane-Anne?" Elijah turned to look at Sabine, then back, "Killed in public for anyone to find . . ." He said as he gazed at Sophie push some hair from her sisters face.
"Only people that come around here are the witches," Sabine looked down, "Now her sister has come to take her body. Her spirit can't rest until it's been properly interred in the cemetery." Sabine said as she crossed her arms, still fixing her eyes on the floor.
"Please tell me that Klaus had nothing to do with this." Elaine prayed. She stared at Sabine as she watched the sad scene unfold before her.
Elijah turned to look at Sabine as she spoke, "No. Jane-Anne died because she got caught doing magic." Sabine blinked her tears away.
"What do you mean she got caught doing magic?" Elijah asked.
Suddenly A loud whistle could be heard, "You wanna know who killed Jane-Anne?"          They all turned their heads to look down the street, "You're about to get your first glimpse of Marcel in action." Sabine said as she breathed a little harder.
Elijah stood next to Sabine, "The vampire Marcel?" He questioned hastily.
"Things have changed since your family left town. Marcel has changed." Sabine answered. From the corner of her eyes, Elaine could see the vampires approaching the witches.
Sabine looked at Elijah and Elaine, "I'm asking you,  stay hidden . If Marcel finds out that a witch lured the Originals back into town, my people will be slaughtered." She said.
The vamped speed up to a spot in the balcony so they were hidden in the shadows. They watched as Marcel and his gang came flashing in. One jumped on top of a car with speed and another came from a balcony, the last one came down from the top of a building.
Marcel walked with his arms wide opened, "Well, well, well, what have we here?" He questioned as he walked directly to Sophie, "I gotta tell you Soph, this street corner is not proving the luckiest spot for your family tonight," Sophie stood up as one of Marcel's vampire friends growled at the witches showing his fangs, "Not half an hour ago, we had to teach your sister a little lesson." Marcel said as he smiled. Some of the witches backed away as Marcel's gang of vampires closed in on them.
Sophie wiped her tears with the back of her hand, "We're putting her to rest Marcel. Leave us alone." She said quietly. Sniffling a bit.
"I never said you could move the body," he stated, putting his hands on his hip, "Matter of fact, I left her here for a reason: send a message," he walked back and forth, "If anybody is thinking of joining some kind of rebellion, my rules state that witches can't practice magic in the Quarter and yet a little birdy informed me that Jane-Anne was cooking up something magically delicious," he smiled and laughed. Sophie stared at him as her cheeks had tear stains, "Whatever yeah. While I have you, quick Q&A. My old friend – the hybrid, Klaus – he just happened to show up out of the blue asking for, of all people, Jane-Anne," he gestured to Jane-Anne's body in front of him," Any idea why?" He put his hands on his hip once again and raised an eyebrow at Sophie.
Sophie sniffled, "I don't know. Witches don't get involved in vampire business." She said.
"Hmm. That would be pretty stupid, that's for sure," Marcel walked around Sophie to stand behind her, "Tell you what, go back to the restaurant, cook up some of that famous gumbo, and keep those tourists happy," he whispered in her ear as she closed her eyes and shook her head, "Take the body." He commanded the vampires. The witches gasped and moved out of their way. They had weakened and Marcel had taken advantage of it.
"What?" Sophie turned around, "No! Stop! Stop! Marcel!" Sophie screamed as she tried to maker her way to Marcel and her sister's body but a vampire had blocked her way and grabbed her.
" I'm gonnna hold on to your sister's body in case maybe you remember why Klaus is here." Marcel said as he walked away.
Sophie squirmed in the vampires grasp, "Marcel please. Her body won't be at peace." She begged.
Marcel held his hands in the air, "Not my problem." He sang. The rest of the vampires walked away with Jane-Anne's body. Elaine and Elijah, were still standing on the balcony, watching them.

You're doing magic

Sophia stood in the restaraunt as she watched Klaus argue with Marcel's vampires. She walked out the back alley exit, down a few stairs and stoped at a small table covered with lit candles, her cheeks wet with tears. As she tended the candles, the door behind her suddenly swung shut with a bang and startled her. Wary, she remains still when a figure jumps and she swiveled around, but still sees no one. She turned again to see the man who spoke to Klaus inside.
"The doors work, you know." She said.
A voice behind her speaked - it was the other man from inside, "You're doing magic?"
Sophia opened her arms and let them fall to her sides, "I'm praying to my dead sister. Go ahead, pay your respects." She said. She turned back to the other guy, who vamp-speeded right in front of her.
"Don't make this a thing, Sophie. The hybrid was looking for Jane-Anne-- Marcel wants to know why." His voice was deep and threatening.
Sophie shook her head, "Oh, that sounds like witch business. I'd say ask her yourself, but I guess you can't, seeing as Marcel killed her." She said. She turned back to the second man. The first man begun to attack her from behind, but he suddenly disappeared. She and the second man look up, then turned at the sound of something falling to the ground - a heart oozing blood. The second man looks angry but doesn't have time to do anything about it before their attacker had thrown him up against the brick building, where he is held by a long stake protruding from his chest. Elaine straightened her coat. Elaine turned around to look at Sophie.
Elijah sooned joined her side, "I'm Elijah." He said.
Elaine rolled her eyes, "Can we get introductions over with. I'm Elaine, You've heard of us?" She said. A bored expression making a way to her face.
Sophie nodded fervently nervous, "Yes." She mumbled.
"So, why don't you tell us what business your family has with our brother?" Elaine said as she looked suspiciously towards Sophie.

Consider this me calling take-backs

Rebekah was sitting in the bathtub, holding a glass of champagne in one hand and her cellphone in the other.
Rebekah stirred her glass, "You mean to tell me, after all these years, Marcel is alive and well?" She asked as Elaine had her phone on speaker for Elijah to also hear.
"Quite. Our brother seems to have wandered into a war zone. And I haven't been able to find him. Marcel, who Klaus sired and brought up beneath his own wing, now rules a menagerie of savage vampires running wild, killing in public for any human to come upon. Witches are held in subjugation. I doubt Niklaus had any idea what he was walking into." Elijah said. This all seem so familiar to Elaine. She felt a part of her empty. She had watched Marcel grow up. And to hear him act this way disappointed her. She took him in as her own child. And as a mother figure towards Marcel created those true mother feelings.
Elaine ran a hand through her hair with her free hand, "There was once a time when slavery was aloud. No it isn't. But it seems like Marcel wants to start a new generation of slavery with witches," She said on the phone, "And like Elijah said, Klaus has no idea what he walked into. Now he's in the middle of it."
Rebekah seemed to doze off, "Sorry, what was that? I stopped paying attention at our brother." She spat.
Elijah and Elaine looked at eachother, "Rebekah." They said.
"Our hateful, traitorous bastard of a brother, who's negated any sympathy I once had for him by his repeated efforts to ensure that neither of us know happiness outside of his own selfish universe." Rebekah exclaimed angrily.
Elaine chuckled darkly, "So true." She mumbled.
"Always and forever, that is what we once swore to each other." Elijah said.
Rebekah sighed, "Consider this me calling take-backs." She said.
Elaine smiled sadly, "Well, you've called take-backs dozens of times over the centuries and yet when our father found us and chased us from this very city . . ." She said.
"I may be old, Elaine, but I'm hardly senile. I know very well I stuck with Klaus, and not three years later he stuck a silver dagger in my chest and sent me into a magical slumber for ninety years. Do you know why? Because I had the audacity to try and live my life on my own without him." Rebekah said.
Elijah grabbed Elaine's phone, "Enough. I believe our brother's in trouble, so what ever is going on between Marcel and the witches, it's dire enough that they'd risk bringing an Original back to town. The witches have lured him here, I'd like to know why." He said as he hung up the phone.

What and entirely unwelcome surprise

Marcel spotted a woman walking down the street below. Earlier this afternoon he had to break a confrontation between Klaus and one of his men. But now, Klaus and Marcel were mindlessly walking and talking until they noticed the woman walking down in an alleyway. Alone. That's when they decided to grab a bite.
"Mm, m-m-mm. New blood." Marcel said as he couldn't take his eyes off her.
Klaus recognizes her from earlier at the bar, "Bartender, walking alone at night. She's either brave or dumb." He said.
"Let's see: brave, I let her live; dumb, she's dessert." They smile. Marcel hopped the gallery's wrought-iron railing down onto the sidewalk below. The woman swivels around at the sound of him landing behind her.
"You know, it's not safe here alone." Marcel said, sounding seductive.
"You know, I have a black belt in karate." Said the woman. And she was no one other than Camille. Marcel chuckles.
Above on the gallery, Klaus feels the presence of Elaine, "Evening, Elaine." He greets her without turning right away.
       "Niklaus." She greeted lowly.
"What an entirely unwelcome surprise." Klaus told her.
"And what an entirely unsurprising welcome," she snapped back, "Come with me." She held out her hand for him to take.
Klaus rejected her gesture, "I'm not going anywhere. Not till I find out who's conspiring against me." He said.
Elaine gave the back of his head a look, "Ok, first of all, god you're stubborn. Second of all, I believe I just found that out for you." She said. Klaus turned to look at her.

You've been with someone else, admit it

Klaus, Elaine, and Elijah were standing in the cemetery. Some witches and Hayley were present as well as they discussed the life of Klaus's unborn child.
       "No. It's impossible." Disbelieved Klaus.
Elijah gazed as his brother, "
I said the same thing myself."
       "
This is a lie. You are all lying. Vampires cannot procreate."
       "
But werewolves can. Magic made you a vampire, but you were born a werewolf. You're the Original hybrid, the first of your kind. And this pregnancy is one of nature's loopholes." Sophia, one of the witches spoke up, trying to get through Klaus's head how realistic their situation was.
Elaine narrowed her eyes at Klaus
, "Its unbelievable, but its not impossible." She said.
      "
You've been with someone else, admit it!" Klaus screamed at Hayley. Pointing an accusing finger at her. Elaine let a huff of annoyance.
       "
Hey, I've spent days held captive in a freaking alligator bayou because they think that I'm carrying some magical miracle baby. Don't you think I would've fessed up if it wasn't yours?" Complained Hayley.
Elaine rolled her eyes, "She's reasonable, you know," she said, "But as always, Klaus, I advice you not to listen. Because, you're actually not listening."
       "
My sister gave her life to perform the spell she needed to confirm this pregnancy. Because of Jane-Anne's sacrifice, the lives of this girl and her baby are now controlled by us. We can keep them save. Or we can kill them," Sophia looked away from Klaus and spoke directly to Elijah and Elaine, "If you don't help us take down Marcel, so help me, Hayley won't live long enough to see her first maternity dress."
       "
Wait, what?" Hayley blurted with wide eyes while she caressed her stomach.
"You can't just do that, my little nephew is in there." Elaine argued. She glared daggers at Sophia.
       "
Enough of this. If you want Marcel dead, he's dead. I'll do it myself." Elijah said, being the reasonable and noble man he's always been.
       "
No. We can't, not yet. We have a clear plan that we need to follow, and there are rules." Interrupted Sophia.
"How dare you command me, threaten me, with what you wrongfully perceive to be my weaknesses. This is a pathetic deception. I won't hear any more lies." Hissed Klaus.
       "Klaus
! . . . Listen." Elaine said. Klaus could hear the heartbeat of the baby. He looks at Hayley, then at his brother, his sister, and lastly, the witches.
       "
Kill her and the baby. What do I care?" He spat. With that he left the area in vampire speed.
       "
Screw this. I'm out of here!" Hayley walked away but the witches stopped her.
       "
No one touches the girl. We'll fix this." Elaine promised. Sophie nodded. Elaine walked out in vampire speed with Elijah.

I will not be manipulated

Klaus ran through a street as Elijah and Elaine caught up with him.
        "
Niklaus." Elaine and Elijah said, trying to catch Klaus's attention.
        "
It's a trick." Klaus's Jaw clenched.
        "
No, brother. It's gift. It's your chance – it's our chance." Elijah tried to convince.
         "
To what?" Klaus questioned Elijah's previous words.
         "
To start over. Take back everything we lost, everything that was taken from us. Niklaus, our own parents came to despise us. Our family was ruined – we were ruined. And since then, all that you have ever wanted – all that we have ever wanted was a family." Elaine's face dropped as she thought of their past as children.

"I will not be manipulated." Said Klaus, turning away but Elijah in vamp-speed went over to block his way.
       "
So they're manipulating you. So what? With them, this girl and her child – your child – live." Elijah said, calmly as ever.
Elaine stayed a bit back, just in case Klaus gets any ideas, "You put that child inside of her. It takes two to make a baby." She said. Klaus glanced behind him to look at Elaine.
       "
I'm gonna kill every last one of them." Klaus hissed. Klaus shoved Elijah and turned away, but once again Elijah with vampire-speed over and blocked him.
       "
And then what? Then you return to Mystic Falls to resume your life as the hated one, as the evil hybrid? Is it so important to you that people quake with fear at the sound of your name?" Klaus glared daggers at Elijah with every word he said.
       "
People quake with fear because I have the power to make them afraid. What will this child offer me? Will it guarantee me power?" Klaus said
Elaine had enough, she vamp speed to Klaus and pushed Elijah away, "Family is power
, Niklaus. Love, loyalty – that's power. This is what we swore to one another a thousand years ago, before life tore away what little humanity you had left, before ego, before anger, before paranoia created in this person before me someone I can barely even recognize as my own brother. This is us, the Original family, and we remain together, always and forever. I am asking you to stay here. I will help you and I will stand by you. I will be your brother. We will build a home here together. So save this girl. Save your child." Elaine placed a hand on Klaus' shoulder. Klaus brought his own hand to Elaine's neck in a brotherly gesture.
"No." Klaus whispered and walked away.

I have nothing to loose

"Marcel and his vampires are out of control. Something had to be done." Sophia announced.
Agnes had a dumbfounded look, "
And the solution is to bring in more vampires?"
       "
These aren't just any vampires, Agnes. They're the Originals," Sophia said.
       "
What makes you think you can control the hybrid? " Agnes said as she looked straight into Sophia's eyes.

Elijah appeared, leaning against a the wall, "She can't. I'm not entirely certain that I can, either. But now that your coven has drawn his ire, I have a question: What prevents my brother from murdering you instead of cooperating?"

Sophie takes a needle and shows it to Elijah. She sticks the needle into her hand.
       "
Ow!" Cried Hayley. Elijah looks at her. There is a drop of blood on her hand, exactly at the same point where Sophie hurt herself.
Elaine suddenly appeared at Hayley's side, "What the hell!" She yelled at Sophie making her jump.

"The spell my sister performed, the one that got her killed? It didn't just confirm the pregnancy. It linked me to Hayley. So anything that happens to me, happens to her, which means her life is in my hands. Klaus may not care about his own child, but it's very clear what it already means to you. If I have to hurt Hayley – or worse – to ensure that I have both your and Elaine's attention, I will." Speeched Sophia. Elijah was slightly amused.
"I would find this amusing, but I don't." Muttered Elaine.
       "
You would dare threaten an Original?" Asked Elijah.
       "
I have nothing to lose." Responded Sophia with a cold expression. The grin disappears from Elijah's face.
"You have until midnight to get Klaus to change his mind." Said Sophia.
