All Of Your Mistakes

When Lady Henriette discovers her husband to be, Duke Richard of Gloucester, is secretly married she feels upset and betrayed to say the least. The Lady, daughter to the most powerful man in France, besides the King himself, the Duke of Bourbon, is also not too impressed. Bourbon advises both the French and English King to turn their backs on the young Duke for treason to both countries.
Having fled his fiancée Henriette for a young maid, Richard is alone, his Father is furious. An alliance between France and England is long awaited. With nowhere to run Richard turned to Henriette for help. She offers him some, but not the kind of help Richard desired.

16. Chapter Sixteen

Dear Lady Henriette of Bourbon,

I regret to inform you that your Mother, her Royal Highness the Duchess of Bourbon, has fallen ill. The best physicians have been sent for. Please rest assured your Mother is in the best care France can offer her. Although the cause of her sudden illness is yet unknown, early indications suggest her sickness is the result of witchcraft, the palace is being locked down. If there is a witch we will find her and have her hanged.

Your Mother does have a theory of who the witch might be but we are not going to disclose that information at such a time as doing so may result in charges brought against both myself and your Lady Mother.

The Duchess requires you at her bedside at once as she fears she may not have long to live.

Yours sincerely

Lady Audrey Pierre, lady to the Duchess of Bourbon
