I walked down the stairs to the kitchen to see Castor covered in flour. I couldn’t help but to laugh when her sneezed making clouds of flour appear. “What on earth Happened to Castor,” I said in between chuckles? As Nora turned around I laughed harder. Her face and front of her hair was covered in flour. “Well, Castor got a little to happy with the flour bag,” she pointed to her head, “this is the result.” I walked up to the counter beside them to see that Pollux was completely clean. I wiped the tears away from my eyes, trying to stop laughing. “Why isn’t Polly the same way?” “She hid under the counter as it exploded.” I can’t say I was too surprised that Pollux avoided the fire. “What are you making anyway?” Nora coughed slightly, “We were making pizza, but I’m up for some take out now.” I laughed kissing her forehead, “I’ll get the keys.”
I walked up to the room grabbing the car keys and head back down. Nora was cleaned up and so was Castor thank goodness. I always wondered how I would sound to Nora if I spoke my native tong. I never told Nora about my Egyptian origins, and I really wasn’t planning on it. “I’ll bring back pepperoni pizza.” As I opened the door I stopped as the darkness hit me. Something was there, something I couldn’t see but could hear. I could hear the faint breathing of them, and I was positive their was more than one. Their sent was old, ancient almost. I could smell sand, and centuries old blood. It was a god awful smell, but I smelled worse. I stepped outside letting the door slam behind me, and as I moved so did they. I could hear twigs crunching as they moved, and I stopped when I was a good distance away from the house.
“Who are you, and why are you on my land?” There was a great silence before one of them spoke, “We are the creepers.” He remembered that name, and wasn’t afraid. His name in Egypt was Anubis, and did he get reputation there. “What are you doing here, what’s wrong?” The creeps despite their name were just messengers for the goddess Sekhmet. “She wishes to see you,” a voice said, “catch up with old times,” another stated. I sighed, “I can’t go to Egypt tonight or ever.” “No need,” I recognized that voice from anywhere. Sekhmet. I turned to see her approaching glowing in the darkness. She bowed before standing back up, “I apologize for coming to your new home, but I needed to find you.”
Her eyes were golden, which was unusual because she was in human form. “Is everything alright your eyes-” “No time for that. Maliki is not playing around when it’s coming to controlling the gods.” I cocked an eyebrow at her, “What has he done exactly?” She looked down to the ground then back at me, “He’s killed Bastet, and Ptah.” I placed a hand on her shoulder, “Do you know why he would kill them? Well, Ptah was kinda a dick, but why Bastet.” She shook her head, “I don’t know,” that was the first time I had ever heard fear in the voice of this lioness. I had never seen the face of the creepers, and as I saw little parts of them I didn’t want to. “Look, I’ll watch my back if that’s what you want me to do. I’ll even stay mentally in touch with you.” She backed away slowly, “Be warned, he’s coming for us all.” The night went back dark, and I let my hair fall in front of my face. I had to do something, if I didn’t either me or Sekhmet was going to be next.
I inhaled and was very surprised that I still smelled the reek of old blood. It was really strong as if it was coming from in front of me. “God of glow I call you, lend me your light so I see too.” Lights started to swirl around a figure in front of me. It was huge. It had big bulgy arms that were wrapped in mummification paper, and as the light circled it’s face I stilled. It was a lion head, but don’t be fooled. It had huge teeth that hung from it’s jaws, and big golden brown eyes to set off. It’s fur was a tent of gold, but it was stained with blood. I hated the smell of them, and covered my noise to keep some of it out. “What are you still doing here?” It’s eyes looked down at me, “I am here to ask a favor.”
I nodded slowly, “What is it?” It’ s eyes studied my form, “I need a favor from Anubis.” I sighed letting my face shift into a jackal. It wasn’t painful at all, besides the major head ach I get afterwards. There’s no side effect. “What do you wish to have done?” He got to his knees in front of me, “I wish for you to protect us.” I cocked my head to the side, “Why do I need to protect you, your master is the goddess of destruction?” He lowered his head, “She’s been weakened, she’s vulnerable.” I motioned for him to get up, “Then tell her to go to Ma’at. She’ll calm her down.” As he got to his feet he shook his head, “Ma’at is not who was anymore. She’s with Maliki.” That couldn’t be, Ma’at was the goddess of peace. Why would she turn her views now? “Go to her, she’s scared that’s it. She needs you right now. He nodded and disappeared. I shifted back into human form and got in the car. It was going to be a long night.
I went to the pizza place picking up two large pizzas. I couldn’t get the scene out of my mind. I made my way back to the house, and as I pulled up the trees that stood in the way disappeared. I had never told Nora about the trees, but she would find out soon. I grabbed the pizza and climbed out of the car. As I approached the door it swung open, and Nora was standing there. “Hey honey,” I handed her the pizzas walking in the house. As I walked past her I was met by Castor. “Did you get pizza dad?” I laughed as he started jumping up and down, “Yeah I did. Come on buddy.” I walked into the kitchen sitting the pizza down on the counter. I picked him up sitting him in his chair.
Nora walked in shortly after with Pollux. I picked her up sitting her next to Castor, “You guys are so cute?”Castor’s and Pollux’s face turned bright red, and I smiled at them. “Nora, I’m gonna go freshen up I’ll be back in a little bit.” She nodded and I went on my way. The house was lit to a very good extant, seeing that it was powered by magic. I could always feel when one of the staff are around me, but there was this one that I had never saw. He worked in the dugeon, and I can tell you right now. He wasn’t dead. Each time I searched it I could hear a heart beating, and something breathing. I never investigated it, and soon after found out that it was the dungeon keeper. His name was Arrow. I’ve seen some weird stuff, but Arrow makes even me take a second look. His skin was burned very severely, his teeth all carved to a sharp point. He had very little hair, and his eyes were a startling silver. I remember my father going down there when he was upset, and I always wonder what he was like.
As I opened the door I was met with pure darkness. I walked in slowly letting the door shut behind me. I was met by the smell of stale air, and the reeking smell of blood. I could hear something, something breathing. “Who are you, and what are you doing here,” the voice came as a whisper? I cleared my throat, “I am Jose Iron, Son of Hades.” Lights came on blinding me temporarily, and I was met by Arrow. He walked over to me smiling, “It’s been a while since you’ve been down here. I’ve met your little ones though.” His voice was thick with accent, and I was very interested in why Castor and Pollux wasn’t afraid of him. “Arrow, I need a favor.”
