Cupid's Gift

Pearl realised that something was wrong with her when her back started itching uncontrollably. She tries to deal with her problem by herself and in the process meets Monica, a girl who is new to town. As things get complicated, will she be able to handle everything that comes at her? Or will she be crushed by her inner conflicts?

4. Bracelet

When I entered the coffee shop, Monica was already waiting for me at a table for two. She was sipping on a cup of hot cocoa and she had bought one for me too. “We need to discuss the timings for your workouts.” I groaned but knew it had to be done. “How many days a week?” “At least three.” “For how long?” “Two hours. Not much.” “How wonderful.” After a long discussion, we decided that I would workout on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Sundays around noon and on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the morning before school. “We’ll keep it at that, but if you’re not improving the way I want you to, we’re going to have to add another day.” “Work hard, got it.” “Do that, and you should be fine.” My phone rang and I recognized the ringtone as my mom’s. “I’ve got to go.” “See ya.” When I got home, my mom asked me to help her cook dinner. She noticed my bracelet and asked me where I got it, so I told her how Monica gave it to me. “I like the writing on it.” “It’s Latin.” “I know.” I looked at her weirdly. “I used to learn Latin a long time ago. I remember the basics.” “Oh.” After dinner, I realized it was my turn to do the dishes. “Aren’t you going to take that bracelet off?” “Nah.” “I think you should, you could ruin it.” “No, mom. It’ll be fine.” “I said, take. It. Off.” She grabbed my arm and tried to take it off, but it burned her instead. She looked at me shocked, and said, “I knew it.”
