1. Before The Beginning
When Percy returned to school he didn't expect to feel this, this horrible gut-wrenching feeling that a part of him was missing. He has friends, and girls follow him around like magnets but it doesn't matter not without her. Not without the one that can make him smile on his worst days and hold him for hours for no reason other than to be near him. He loved her but she's gone now. No one has seen or heard from Annabeth in six months, and everyone has given up hope. Everyone but Percy. So the girls and the friends and the popularity that's all so unfamiliar to him can go screw because none of it matters without her. Seaweed brain, that's what she used to say but not for so long. Not since... not since the day he got the call...
"No one can find her. She's not in her cabin or at her dad's and they say she never checked in from her last quest. She's out there Percy and she loves you. She'll come back she always does. The two of you are inseparable, not even fate can split you up. I remember..." Grover continued to talk but Percy wasn't listening. He could see his world crumble. The life he knew and took comfort in was gone. Never to be the same again until he found her. She was everything. He never should of let her stay. Never should have let her convince him that she should take a detour on their way home to see her mom. Athena, it was Athena's fault, yes that's why Annabeth is gone. But Percy knew in his heart that it wasn't Athena's fault, it was his for letting her go after they heard that Athena was near by. He knew Athena didn't like him and thought Annabeth would be safe, she was a fierce Demi-God, she could face and defeat anything that came her way. But now sitting in his mom's place he knew she faced the battle she couldn't win and now she's gone. Percy dropped the phone and sunk to his knees. He stayed like that for three hours remembering the feel of her cheek against his hand and the taste of her lips. Her shy smile and confidence. The way she held a sword. The piggy back rides he gave her around camp. The endless underwater kisses where no one could bother them. The capture the flag games they won and the friends they'd lost in battle. The reassurance they always gave each other and the love they shared. His life was as good as over. Over until he found her. Brought her home and never let her go. That's when the sobbing started. When the memories faded and he could no longer hold on Percy crumpled.
When at last, the tears slowed and his mind cleared it was 4a.m.
He looked up and made a promise, one promise that meant the world.
"I will find you if it's the last thing I do."
