Jackie arrived at Poly Tunnel number one (Fruit) he grabbed some cartons and began to fill them up. He was so fast after doing it for years his eyes were trained to spot the ripest fruits ready for picking  once filled they were placed into a plastic trays that you would normally see  fresh bread in. he filled the tray in less than three minutes then stack another on top. He had done around ten trays when Adrianna came in.

“Morning handsome.”

Jackie stopped what he was doing and then came over to Adrianna and kissed her long and hard. “God I missed you he said;

“Did you; so did I. I practically ran all the way over Jackie. He held her in his arms and didn’t want to let her go but he knew he must.

“Now Adrianna if you put on a pair of those marigold gloves I will show you how to pick the fruits. We must be quick but also gentle because if we handle them to roughly then the fruits will bruise and they are useless so discard any like that.

“I used to pick Strawberries on my fathers farm so I know how it is done.’

“Oh brilliant. We will be done in no time at all then.’

“Do you want to start at the bottom and I will meet you in the middle my love.’ He kissed her again before she went down the tunnel to the bottom. In actual fact Adrianna was as quick as he was and the trays started stacking up

By lunchtime they had filled over five hundred punnets. They hadn’t many left to do so they both carried on until they were done.

“Well done my love, right bring the trolley outside because we have to load the van up as these my lovely lady are going to Sainsbury’s.

“Can I come with you?’

“Yes of course; we can pick up a free sandwich and a cup of tea after we’ve unloaded them same again mind love try not to drop the trays or bruise the fruit Sainsbury’s are very strict on quality control and will not pay for damaged goods.’

Adrianna slid in beside Jackie. She was wearing a pair of flared Wrangler jeans and a black tee shirt with a pair of hiking boots.

She huddled in as close as she could to Jackie who drove off at speed towards Whitley Bay.

The newly opened store at West Monkseaton was packed with shoppers as they drove around to the tradesman’s entrance.

Jackie jumped out first then came around and opened the door for Adrianna.

The back door to the store opened and out came a lad wearing a white trilby and a brown overall coat.

Jackie and Adrianna pushed the trays inside once they had stacked them onto the moveable trolleys

“Who’s the girl said Bob Hall as he counted each tray that held 30 punnets.’
