Serge whinnied as Serene walked up to him with the bag of oats; she slipped the bag over his head so that his nose was inside then left him to eat. She climbed up onto the seat and patted the seat so Brian could join her.
He sat next to her and for the first time he could feel the heat from her body. She looked beautiful he thought as they sat talking about cheese making mainly and him the farm.
“Do you like the farm he asked her?’
“Yes Brian,’ I love it here; it’s so peaceful especially with the animals and the birds singing.”
“I will never leave the farm because farming is in my blood it flows like an eternal stream.’
“I would like to meet someone, settle down, and have a family one day said Serene as she looked down shyly.’
“I’m twenty two and I have never had a girlfriend ever he confessed.”
“My aunt who brought us up after my father and mother were shot by the Germans was very strict with Adrianne and I. we were not allowed out on our own this is how we left to come to England via a ferry from France.
“I’m so glad that you came albeit because your sister was ill; if it weren’t for that we would never have met and I would still be a lonely farmer working the land every day.”
“Do you like me Brian?’
“Yes I do, I have never felt this way about anyone before. It’s strange but I feel nervous around you but excited too.’
“Yes me too so much that I’m afraid that you may send us away.’
Send you away Serene, I would never do that and neither would my dad. We love having you here Serene.’
“I mean I love having you around he corrected himself.’
“I think I love you Brian, I cannot explain it I feel drawn to you. your strength and confidence overwhelms me.’
Brian slipped his arm around Serene and he leant in and kissed her he didn’t really know what he was doing and it was as if he was on auto pilot and everything was being done without thinking.
Serene responded to him and she held onto his strong arms; arms that had been built up with years of hard work on the farm.
“Oh Brian I love you so much;
“And I you; I fell in love with you the very first time I saw you.
She rested her head against his chest and Brian could smell her hair he kissed it ad she looked up to him and their lips met again and she was taken on a ride which had her head swimming; a ride that she never wanted to get off.
