Driving through Av. Vicente llora Alo’s George pulled in at the Plaza del Alexandria where he was meeting with Umberto Alverez his Spanish accountant who knew all the ins and outs of Spanish law and how to get out of paying the Spanish taxes that they imposed on British ex pats buying property.
Umberto had saved him thousands of pounds since he had employed him to handle his financial affairs.
“Umberto my friend; George greeted his accountant.

So my friend how is business?
“Ticking over smoothly Umberto’ have you got any news about that property in Tenerife I was telling you about?’
Yes,’ I spoke with Sal Valentia who owns a few hotels over there and he says you could buy the Cargador de Agua (The Water Carrier) for £700.000.
“That’s a bit steep isn’t it Umberto; I was thinking more in the region of £400.000
“Ah but don’t forget George Tenerife is more up market and because of the weather you are going to pay more.
Okay I will go to £500.000 and no more.
Umberto picked up the phone from the table and dialled a number.
He waited for an answer and spoke in Spanish and George had to think on his feet to over here what was being said.
“He could here Sal on the other end of the line remonstrating with Umberto until he mentioned cash money.
Sal’s attitude softened until finally he accepted the deal.
“It is settled you have just bought “The Water Carrier” for £500.000
George Shook Umberto’s hand and gave him £500.00 cash. For that Umberto would take care of the paper work for him.
I think I will take a trip over there in a couple of weeks; fancy a trip?
“Why not said Umberto who had gone on several business trips with George in the past they always ended up in bed with a beautiful woman.
The hotel had some two hundred apartments. He reckoned he would make his money that he paid for it in two years.
