"Before the Harvest " I know you will enjoy this story of three generations of farmers During the outbreak of WW2. Janice Villeverde and her friend Miriam Nixon are sent to Wildacre Farm in the New York Estate. it is there that they are put to work along with many others to help the war effort. it is there that they meet up with young Thomas Hogg who introduces the girls to his friend George Barrett. After a brief courtship Janice finds herself in trouble and George Barrett sends her away when she tells him. Forced to bring up a child on her own Janice swears revenge on the man who wronged her. Before the Harvest gives you an insight of how a farm worked during the war years; a story of love hate and revenge.

George Barrett sat with two girls who were obviously enjoying his company.

Jack and his sons looked on as they supped a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale.

George looked at his watch it was early yet but they were in no hurry so Jim went to the bar and ordered another round. George Barrett looked over at the stranger at the bar for an instant then carried on with his conversation.

Jim brought the drinks over and they sat quietly drinking.

Jim brought out a pack of cards and they began to play as George and his father kept an eye on Barrett.

It was knocking on for ten thirty when Barrett excused himself from the girls and went to the toilet.

“Right lets go said his father as they followed Barrett to the toilet.

“Jim you stop out here and do not let anyone in do you here?

“If they ask why say you’re a plumber and one of the toilets has leaked and there’s shite’ all over the place.”

Jim grinned as George and his father went into the toilet.

George blocked the doorway as jack walked up to the urinal Barrett looked at him and nodded;

Glad that blasted snow has cleared said Barrett as he shook his penis then buttoned his flies.

“Aye you like the warm weather don’t you.’


“You know when you can get in the fields with them young lasses for a bit of rough and tumble.’

“Oh that yes; these girls you know are just begging for it.’

“Oh yes; and was our Janice begging for it as well when you took her an al’

The realisation hit George Barrett’s face as he stared into the eyes of the man in front of him.

“Hey it was just a bit of fun I never meant to get her pregnant.”

“Aye and what was it you called her when she came to you for help?

“Err, I don’t recall.

“Well Janice does; she said that you said that the baby wasn’t yours and you called her a filthy whore.”

“You’re mistaken sir I never said such a thing.”

“Are you calling my daughter a liar now are you?

“Well not exactly.”

“Well you will be pleased to hear that you have a son; but you will never see him growing up.’ Jacks fist shot out punching George Barrett in his stomach which made
