Thomas turned on the radio to listen to the Kings speech. Everyone stood up at the table as George V1 talked about people’s unshakable courage. He said they were determined to fight on to a complete victory with no thought of parley. He went on to say what ever the future might hold he knew that we would respond wholeheartedly to every new demand made upon them. He also said that he was proud of the war effort and the victories in the western desert and the attacks against the Germans by our Ally’s on French soil. “Shall I open that bottle of elder flower wine Cora?
“Go on then William it is Christmas.’ William went into the cold cupboard and brought out the bottle of home made wine and removed the top and then poured everyone a glass so they could all make a toast.
William kept standing as he raised his glass; Here’s to all are boys who are doing their bit over there; let’s hope that the war is over soon and that peace returns. I look forward to the new life that is to be born soon; they are the future of this great nation of ours. I also look forward to a new addition to our family when Miriam who is to marry my son.
