2. Running Away!

Violet's POV:

I cannot describe the way my heart was beating. Running away was the best option for me at that time. Maybe the loud and violent effect of this crowd got me. Was it really Gage Mathews or a figment of my inane imagination? No, it was real.

Travon Ace, the fighter was Gage Mathews.

Gage Mathews, the nerd was Travon Ace.

They were the same people. But why?

Why was the nerd extraordinaire working as a fighter here?

These thoughts were creating havoc on my senses and I was startled when a hand dropped on my shoulder and I yelped loudly. Turning around, I met Greg's blue amusing eyes. Phew! Its just Greg and I thought it was Gage or Travon.

"Violet, it's just me," he chuckles. I can see that and I've never been this pleased to see him. The people around us were clambering about to get out of there. I can safely say that I was away from the tunnel but I was back where I left from.

"I tried calling you but you didn't answer," I explained to him.

"Yeah, I came for you when we didn't see you at the car," Greg furrowed his brows. I worried them, didn't I?

"I'm sorry," I said as the people pushed and elbowed past us.

"C'mon let's go," he grabbed my hand and we made our way outside through the exit.

I glanced behind me and caught the sight of a frustrated and angry Travon looking around the area among the rushing crowd, obviously searching for me. I could feel my eyes fall out of their sockets any minute with the way they were dilating right now. I have to hurry before he catches me so I pushed myself and Greg forward quickly.

Finally we made it to the parking lot and the others were waiting on us. Ashley was doubled over by the side of the car, puking her stomach out. Ray was patting her back while Kayla was holding her hair away from her face.

"Where were you? You got us worried," Kayla gave me a concerned look and grimaced when Ashley heaved out another round of puke.

"I got lost, what happened to her?" I ask as I take Ray's place.

"Hot dogs," Ray replies. Ashley was a big foodie so there was no way she could stay away from food even if it was unhygienic.

"Tongue got your stomach," I reply sardonically.

"Go to hell," she sticks out her tongue at me.

"We gotta get her home. Let's go," Greg announces as he gets into the driver's seat. Yeah, the fast we move, the faster I can get away from Travon or Gage.

"I'm so tired," Kayla sighs and gets in the passenger seat.

"It's your entire fault I'm like this Greg," Ashley groaned as me and Ray sat on either side of her in the back seat.

"No, it's not me, it's your greed for food," Greg chuckled.

My first priority is to get Ashley home, safe and sound. Key word being sound as I don't want her parents freak out. They were kinda borderline obsessive over her. When Ashley tripped down the stairs in 4th grade and sprained her ankle, they demanded the doctors to shift her to ICU for surgery because they feared she broke her leg. {P.s. She tripped down just two stairs.}

Greg backed out of the lot and I watched the surroundings as we moved away from the fighting circuit.

From the unknown secret.

Everyone was tired and Ashley was sick. Should I ask Greg? Maybe he knows something about it or may be I shouldn't.

My phone pinged and I looked down to see a message from Will. He was the manager of Highway Replacement Driver agency. The agency I worked for.

"You're free tonight. No drivers needed. Sleep tight Sugar ;)"

His winkey face made me smile. Before you think I got some crush on him or something, no I don't. Will was old, like my father and he was the one who offered me the job of a replacement driver as I needed money for college and this job offered me a lot.

It was my secret as no one knew about it except Will.

My dad left me and my mother penniless when he married Fiona, the uptown snob witch of Westbrook whose daughters, my step-sisters were hell bent on destroying my dreams so I had no choice but to keep it away from evil eyes. I felt guilty for not letting my mother and friends know about it but my dreams left me with no choice but this.

Greg dropped me home after dropping everyone. I was his last stop apparently.

"Goodnight." He smiles and I get out of his car.

"Night," I smile and walk along the driveway to my white cape house as Greg's car drives away.

Stepping inside the small but my well kempt house I walk toward the blaring noise of the Television in the living room. Mom's weary form was sprawled across the couch and she was asleep. Switching off the TV, I peck her forehead and amble off toward my room upstairs.

The moment I step inside my blue room, the thoughts of nerd/fighter creeps in. Was it just me who didn't know about this? Or was it just me who knew about this now? Oh God! My head's hurting with all these overbearing thoughts.

It isn't even my business but the curiosity was getting the upper hand here. I just can't believe the adorable nerd Gage and the hard, sturdy Travon are the same.

This felt way stupid than the whole Miley and Hannah business. Ugh!

#####

I made it.

I'm so glad I made it.

Even though I woke up late, I managed to take a shower, got dressed in a minute, skipped breakfast, kissed my mother goodbye, and ran like a maniac to school and saved myself from being late. Phew! Need my name in Guinness book of World Records. What? I'm not being dramatic; I'm just being a high schooler.

I walk toward the grey school building past the frolicking students and their rubbish snob chatter.

"V!" Kayla's holler reaches from behind me. Maybe my friends already knew about Travon's secret and I was lacking behind. She walks up to me in all her tan glory and auburn halo.

"Hey," I smile at her.

"Greg called me last night," she squeals. Okay.

"So, what did he say?" I ask her.

"He said I left my bracelet in his car," she blushes hard and jumps in excitement. Wow! This is so dreamy. Not.

"Cute," I'm cut off by Ashley.

"Oh My God!" Ashley screams in my ear and I give her a glare for piercing my ears with her loud scream. But her eyes are trained on something behind me. Kayla and I turn around to see a black Rolls Royce pull into the parking lot.

Here comes the popular clique!

Arianna Wilson, the head cheerleader is the first to get out. She was beautiful with that sun kissed form and white blonde hair framing her petite cheerful face. She wasn't a snob, in fact she was very sweet unlike her other cheerleading squad.

"That's so Prada," Kayla sighs at the white handbag hanging off her arm. Arianna was the daughter of Mila Wilson, the owner of the famous La Petite fashion house. Rich. Beautiful. Sweet. She was the perfect combination.

"He's so hot!" Ashley breathes by my side and I catch the tall, blonde jock Jeremy Henderson step out. He was the captain of soccer team and the ladies man. In other words he was a player. I didn't like him because when we were made partners in chemistry lab in 9th grade, he suggested we have a quickie in the store room. I answered him by lighting his shirt on fire with Bunsen burner and he ran away screaming like a girl. What if he's the heir of famous Henderson steel and Iron industry, I don't give a damn.

"Jeremy has gotten so much hotter," Ashley squeezes my arm, swooning at the blue-eyed man grinning at the giddy females. Gag me!

A black boot covered foot slips out from the back seat. Uh-Oh!

I look up slowly from the boot to the bespectacled annoyed eyes of Gage Mathews as he plants his feet on the ground after slamming the door making his biceps bulge. I gulp hard and my heart thuds. Now that I look closely he did have that strong and hard form that he was now hiding behind a plaid blue shirt, black jeans and a baseball cap perched on his head.

Arianna sidled up to him and wound her arm through his. He gave her that cute smile and she smiled back.

"He's oozing cuteness," Kayla sighs beside me. Hmph!

Mathews had a strong footing in the world of hotel business. They were rich, prominent and important than any other family in Westbrook. I don't think money could be his reason for joining the fighting circuit. Then what?

"Earth to Violet," Ray snaps his fingers in my face.

"Hey," I smile and find Greg and Ray standing by our side.

"Drooling over Gage," Greg teases me and I stick my tongue out at him.

"Gage's not a drool material; he's more like 'Aww! He's so cute' material," Ashley explains. What do you know? Ask me!

"That's the most stupid thing I've heard, "Ray grimaces.

"Really? Haven't you heard yourself?" Ashley smirks. Good one!

"Touché!" Kayla and I giggle. Ray mock glares at us.

"Our first period is about to start, let's go," Greg pats my shoulder at the same time Travon or Gage's hard, cold glare reaches me.

#####

"Rip!"

The class erupts in snickers as Mr. Bundchen realizes his pants have given in to his potbelly. Way to start a class! This is fun! Mr. Bundchen chuckles nervously and leans against the wall.

"An A grade in Math to everyone if you don't spread it around," he smiles at us and wipes the sweat off his forehead. A deal, huh?

"We can sacrifice an A, no problem," Thomas Reynolds hollers from the back and slaps his hands against his buddies as the class snickers loudly including me and Greg. my footing.

"I will," he says and points to the shelf behind me, "Pass me that Frog versus Human book from behind."

"Yeah," I turn around and look for the book in the shelf.

"Did you find it?" he asks.

"No-,"I pull out the book and am cut off mid-sentence when my eyes meet the dark, ice like gaze of Travon or Gage through the space in the shelf I just created.

"Did you?" Ray prods. Shit!

"We need to talk," Gage's deep, thick voice whispers. Damn!

"Let's go," I block the space and him by placing the book back then grab Ray's arm and drag him outside.

"Violet," Ray narrows his eyes at me when we come out of the library. He's everywhere.

"I was tired," I shrug.

"You're stupid," he smiles and we walk away from the torture. Like I don't know that!

#####

Kayla and I are standing in that god awful lunch line to grab something for our hungry stomachs. I'm praying for the line to move forward and she's ogling Liam's back, he's a soccer jock too. I roll my eyes at that and pinch her arm to get her attention.

"Ouch!" she yelps and I grin sarcastically.

"What was that for?" Kayla rubs her arm gingerly.

"He's got a girlfriend," I whisper-yell.

"Correction-He's got girlfriends," she winks and I chuckle. Liam turns around and winks at us. Typical Jock!

"Gage, buddy, what's up?" Liam gives him a head-nod. I glance from the corner of my eye and see him grinning at Liam but his eyes were far away from that expression. They were on me.

He

"Fine, do whatever you want," Mr.Bundchen rolls his eyes and starts droning on and on about the formulas used in Calculus.

"Greg," I whisper and tug his arm. He turns to me and furrows his brow.

"Did you have fun last night?" a seat scrapes from behind me and I turn to look at Gage shooting daggers at me through his brown eyes. Weren't they grey? His eyes are daring me to speak another word about last night. If he thinks I'm going to tell everyone about him then he's wrong.

"Yeah," Greg smiles and I gulp hard as I break Gage or Travon's intense stare.

"I had fun too," I chuckle as Greg gives me a perplexed look and gets back to the class.

Is he stalking me now?

####

"I can't believe you agreed to come with me," Ray chuckles as he skims over the long line of books placed on the large bookshelf. He places another fat book on the pile of other books I'm holding right now and he doesn't even care I might succumb to death if he doesn't stop.

"This project could get me a great score," he pulls out a book 'Frog and Human' and studies.

"I don't care, you said you'll help me with my math," I reply as I try to find balance on my footing.

"I will," he says and points to the shelf behind me, "Pass me that Frog versus Human book from behind."

"Yeah," I turn around and look for the book in the shelf.

He is definitely stalking me. That means he'll kill me now! I'm so stupid!

I wish for a time machine so that I could stop myself from going to that fight and meeting face to face with Travon or Gage's secret.

#####

Coach Nelly hates me.

I had a doubt before but now I'm sure of it. While everyone ran the tracks for half-an-hour she made me run for an hour. Why? Because I sat down in the middle of the run for 15 minutes, just that.

It's not my fault I don't have much stamina in me.

Now I was seated on the bleachers with Kayla and Ashley. We were watching the soccer boys run the field in all their tall and handsome glory.

"Jeremy's got strong arms," Ashley fans by my side. I should abort hanging with her. Kayla was cheering for Greg and he was smiling back at her. Ray was at the back with Gage. He was huffing and puffing while Travon or Gage was trotting at a relaxed pace like he was in no hurry.

What a jerk!

He's a fighter and one needs to be athletic to be that. He's acting, I'm so damn sure!

"Ray, my grandpa moves faster than that," Ashley hollers from my side. She's so loud!

Ray frowns at her and moves faster along with his huffing and puffing.

"I wonder how someone as hot as Jeremy is Gage's buddy," Ashley speaks as she roves her eyes at the soccer captain. I snort.

Clearly you haven't seen Gage without a shirt!

Ugh! Clearly you've gone crazy Violet Landon!

I look up and spot Gage smirking at me. Ray was laying on the grass, limp beside him after all the running he did or the lack of it. I gulp audibly and ignore Ashley's concerned talks.

I'm in trouble, aren't I?

#####

I'd always prefer a walk than a ride from and to school. Although Kayla and others offer to drop me home, I always decline because a walk keeps my body in check and also it gives me a lot of time to think over many things that stay clogged up in my head. So, it's like my time.

But considering my situation, I think I should've taken the ride Kayla offered me today because a creepy feeling was seeping within me like someone was watching me. My guess was proved correct. How?

A strong hand clamped over my mouth from behind and pulled me into a narrow alley effectively stopping me from screaming. The person dragged me deep into the dark alley and I could only get out muffled screams as my feet scraped along the concrete ground. I had to get away and using all my strength I pushed him backward with my back as I kicked his shin and made a move to sprint.

The person cussed out loud from behind me and before I could run away he snaked his heavy arm around my waist and pushed me against the wall making the breath knock out of me sharply. When I looked down at him, my brown eyes met those cold and dangerous grey eyes which were now grinning at me. What. The. Hell!

I struggled to move but I noticed he had me trapped against the wall with his steel form and now was freaking grinning at me. His cap was gone and so were his brown eyes along with that whole nerd demeanor. This darkness wasn't helping either. And what was this erratic thing going on in my heart?

"Going somewhere?" he chuckles in my face and I glare at him.

Could this get any worse?

A/N: So here's the second chapter (sorry for the long wait). Tell me your thoughts on it and don't forget to-
