Sleepless Souls

Alaska, Cenri, and Ylva are all very different wolves that have never met. They all have one thing in common though; they all are searching for happiness in their lives. Will they be able to find what they are searching for? Or fail trying.

7. Chapter 7 (Alaska's POV)

Shamus had taken her to a garden around his home to cool off. Alaska now laid on the cool grass near a pond looking up at the sky, with Shamus by her side.

“Are you starting to feel a little better?” Shamus asked. He was making sure to keep close to her.

“Somewhat.” Alaska answered quickly.

“What else is bothering you?” Shamus questioned.

“It’s nothing.” She said rolling away from him in her wolf form. Quickly, after the words had left her mouth and she had rolled away Shamus was over her, nuzzling her and nudging Alaska to make her look at him. Her heart had begun to beat fast as this wolf stood over her. His signature bear claw necklace hung around his neck and his black tipped ears were laid down, signalling that he was in distress.

“Alaska, anything that is bothering you is now bothering me. Your happiness is important to me. You are important to me.” Shamus said to her with a serious look in her eye. Alaska could feel under her fur she had a massive blush. It was in these moments she was glad she was a wolf so her feelings weren't as prominently shown as they would have been in her human form. Shamus, continuing his speech after Alaska hadn’t given him the indication she didn't like what he was saying.

“Look, I know this all probably sounds stupid to you but I don’t care about people. Like, ever. But, I care about you and you are important to me. I couldn’t stop caring about you even if I wanted to.” He finished before letting her go and getting off of her. Returning to his normal spot next to her. It was silent for awhile as Shamus was only there to comfort her and she had nothing that could compare to what he had just said. Did the soon-to-be Alpha have feelings for her just after a day? And even if that was true, Alpha’s usually chose other Alpha’s to be with. Not a Beta like her.

“I’m just nervous being a Beta now. I don't think I’ll be able to live up to what my father was.” Alaska admitted.

“Alaska, you will be a perfect Beta.” Shamus reassured her. Their moment was cut short though as a unfamiliar voice cut through their peaceful silence.

“What do we have here?” The voice called out with a laugh as Alaska and Shamus got up to see him. He was a black wolf with white tipped ears, the signature of their clan. Alaska guessed it had to be one of the Beta’s that was at her welcoming ceremony. When she examined him further she recognized him as one of the wolves that had made fun of her brother before he took off.

“Shamus, I didn’t know you were hiding this beauty from me.” He snickered, sending a wink at Alaska. She looked away from him in disgust, she hated wolves who thought they were all that because of their status and looks. Shamus’ growl seemed to agree with her too.

“What do you want, Konrad?” Shamuz asked.

“Nothing but possibly a date with this beauty.” Konrad smiled at Alaska. “How about it, hun?” The way he thought he was the smoothest wolf alive made Alaska sick.

“I wouldn’t think of going anywhere with a wolf that disrespects an Omega that has done nothing wrong.” She growled, her anger made her spit at him in disgust. Konrad lost his temper now as he growled and lunged for her, sinking his claws into her side and her muzzle. She whimpered and fell back. Shamus was quick to react too as his red and cream colored wolf body rushed Konrad. Shamus wouldn’t even let Konrad react as he quickly knocked Konrad down and bit down on his neck.

“If you ever touch her again, I will not hesitate to kill you. Take this as a warning.” Shamus hissed before letting the smaller, black wolf go. Konrad whimpered now as he ran away from the two of them. Shamuz turned to Alaska now and tenderly nipped her. With another whine he licked the wound on her muzzle. He picked her up and helped carry her back to his house. All the while, a whine coming from Shamus.

As Alaska came to she was lying in a bed that was not her own. Something cold matted up against her fur and a heat was coming from her muzzle as well.

“Are you awake?” Shamus’ voice asked as she opened her eyes to see him getting up from laying next to her bedside. She began to try to get up before Shamus pushed her back down.

“You’re wounded you need to rest.” Shamus ordered. She laughed softly and nodded.

“Yes sir.” She answered him.

“Oh, uh, I-I didn’t mean to come off commanding.

“I know I’m kidding.” Alaska told him. “Shamus?” Alaska asked again looking up at him.

“Yes?” He answered.

“How come I’ve never seen you around, like never with anyone else till I became Beta?” Alaska questioned. Shamus went quiet for a minute.

“I’m just not a people person.” Shamus answered. “There is one thing that has made that harder for me though.” He added. As she looked over at him again, he was looking away from her. Probably blushing under his fur.

“You know when I told you that you were important to me it was mostly just as friends and I thought the slight feelings I had would pass but when Konrad attacked you I realized how they wouldn’t pass by how protective I got over you.” Shamus looked back at her, his silver eyes staring deep into her yellow eyes. “ These feelings I have for you are a lot more than I originally thought.”

Alaska didn’t know how to respond to his words, she liked Shamus. He was handsome no doubt and he was a caring person, plus he was quiet and not some arrogant wolf that thought he deserved anyone. She didn’t know how Orbit would feel about it though, as protective as he was he might not like Shamus at all. She started to speak but Shamus put a paw by her muzzle to hush her.

“You don’t need to make an opinion about me yet. Just know that my feelings for you won’t be easy to get rid of and I won’t let anyone else have you.” He told her, there was bitterness at the end of his sentence like he truly intended to keep that promise.

“So what are you planning on doing while forming my thoughts on you?” Alaska asked, looking over to him.

“Well I intend to be by your side as much as I can be.” Shamus said and she nodded.

“Why did you choose me anyhow? Out of all the wolves you could have picked.” Alaska asked.

“Because you’re the only wolf who hasn’t treated me special just because I’m an Alpha. And because you befriended me for me, not for what I have to offer you.” Shamus finished, licking the top of Alaska’s head before leaving the room and letting Alaska rest.
