Alaska sat in her room, upset. Not at Orbit, but at how she let Konrad hurt her. She knew she was a better fighter than him, yet she let him have the upperhand. She felt weak and helpless now. Alaska howled in sadness as she climbed out of her window and hoisted herself onto the roof of the house.
She yelled once more as she threw the venison she held in her hand off the roof and laid down on the cool shingles. The breeze seemed to calm her down though as she let herself be soothed by the quietness of the night.
“Why did you throw food off your roof?” Shamus asked Alaska suddenly. Her eyes opened quickly and the sudden appearance of Shamus made her slip.
He was quick to react as he got hold of her before she fell and pulled her back up onto the roof. She growled at him and pushed herself away from him, brushing herself off.
“Why the hell are you on my roof?” She questioned him.
He shrugged, “I was walking by and I saw you throw food off your roof so I wanted to make sure you were ok.” Shamus answered her defensively.
“Your house is all the way on the other side of the territory why are you walking all the way over here?” She asked him, her eyes narrowing to look him over.
“Maybe I like walking over here better. There is a better view in this part of the territory.” Shamus crossed his arms trying to sell his words.
She snorted and leaned back to lay on the shingles, “Be honest with me, you were walking over here because you were worried about me, weren’t you?”
He looked straight at her now as his eyes softened a little. “Yeah, I was worried about your injuries and how well Orbit took it.” He explained to her. “When I heard you up on your roof getting frustrated and throwing things I wanted to make sure you were okay.” He finished.
She smiled at him and spoke with a smile, “you really do care about me, don’t you?”
“Yeah I care about you. Especially when you’re hurt. I don’t know what it is but I can’t get thoughts of you and if you’re okay out of my head.” He told her honestly. She smiled with her eyes closed and let the wind blow over her.
“Are you feeling a little better? You are smiling.” Shamus said after a bit of silence. He really did say what was on his mind in the moment, no matter how weird or out of place it may seem. She thought about his words for a moment before nodding.
“I guess I feel a bit better.” Alaska admitted. “But, I can’t talk to Orbit right now since he is still going to be upset with me.”
“Then come with me.” Shamus said in a serious tone. Alaska tilted her head and gave him a confused look.
“What do you mean?” She asked.
“Well if you aren’t going to confront your brother and we aren’t hunting together tomorrow then you should come hang out with me.” Shamus offered, a little bit of blush showing through his curly and shaggy red hair. His silver eyes seemed to be able to look into her soul though he never showed it. His tan skin made her a little jealous as she could only keep a slight tan. And of course, his bear claw necklace that always hung around his neck. She looked him over once more before shrugging.
“Sure, why not.” She said. Shamus smiled brightly and wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close to him before jumping down off the roof and towards the ground, landing gracefully. Normally, jumping from that sort of height would break any human's legs, luckily for them they could handle a jump like that.
Once they were on the ground they both were in their wolf forms.
“Where are we going?” Alaska asked him. She assumed that since he mentioned it earlier that why would be going hunting. This wasn’t new to her though as before she was Beta when she was upset she would go hunting with her friend Eli, a subordinate, who loved to hunt. She realized that she hadn’t seen him since her mother had passed and made a mental note to see him soon.
“We’re going to a place that I go to when I need to relax.” Was all Shamus told her before she ran after him into the woods.
They ran a ways out till they reached a place where the trees parted and a pond stood before them that steamed.
“I didn’t know that there was a hot springs anywhere near the territory at all.” Alaska gasped as she looked over the hot springs with awe. She hadn’t been to one since her family went to one when they had to visit the northern clan for Alpha Nico. She remembered how fascinated she was with the warm water and the fun she had as her and Orbit played in the water and him teaching her how to swim as a pup.
“Neither did I till I stumbled across it one night when I was walking.” Shamus explained to her.
“Do you go walking at night often?” Alaska asked, not counting the time moments earlier when he was on her roof.
“Actually, I do. It gives me a chance to think and to be alone with my thoughts.” Shamus told her. She frowned for a moment, Shamus probably came here alone a lot since she never saw him often throughout the years of meetings and when she went with her mother while she was Beta. Her mother had told her about Shamus when she was young but Alaska never got to meet him as he usually kept to himself, even as a pup.
“Why would you want to bring me here then? If this is like your secret spot to be alone at are you not afraid of me spoiling it for you?” She questioned him. He walked over to her and licked her and slightly nuzzling her before speaking.
“Because, Alaska, I want to spend as much time as possible with you. If I can’t get thoughts of you out of my head I might as well be with you whenever I can. Even if I want to be alone I want you to be by my side.” He admitted to her with a soft smile. Alaska noticed that her heart was beating quickly and she could feel a hotness under her fur around her muzzle. She didn’t understand how no one else could make her feel this way over small things but he could.
She didn’t want him to see her vulnerable by his words as she pushed past him and strode into the warm water of the hot springs.
Unfortunately, Shamus was close behind her as he spoke up again.
“Did I say something wrong?” He asked her. “Because if I did I’m sorry this is all just really new to me and I don’t have much of a filter with these things.” He spoke with a whine.
“No, you didn’t say anything wrong, Shamus.” Alaska said.
“Then how come you didn’t respond?”
“Was I supposed to respond?”
He thought for a moment and then shook his head, his fur bobbing in the water as he swam.
“No, I guess not. I just wish I knew what you were thinking sometimes.” He said, giving her the best pouting face that he could muster. She laughed and smiled at him as she turned to face him. She nuzzled him as best as she could as she spoke.
“I think you’re sweet for what you say to me all the time and somehow you are the only person that can make my heart beat fast and make me blush without really even knowing that you are doing it.” She explained to him. “And I don’t really understand it and I don’t know why this has only happened with you when there have been plenty of guys just as sweet to me.” She finished and looked away.
He nudged her muzzle to make her look at him again and there was a sparkle in his eyes.
“Can you always do that from now on?” Shamus asked sweetly.
“Do what?” She questioned him.
“Tell me what you’re thinking all the time so I know.” Shamus stated. She giggled and with her paws she splashed him.
“I’m serious!” He protested, splashing her back. “And no other guys in your life okay? I want to be the only guy trying to win you over.”
“Well I’m going to let you figure me out on your own. I’m not going to tell you.” She winked at him.
“You know I will do that.” Shamus stated seriously, determination was clear on his face.
“You’re worth it to me.”
“You are too nice to me.” Alaska told him before nuzzling him.
