"No, I don't like that one," Zuri says for the hundredth time.
"Come on Z, this is almost the last dress in the store. We've gotta pick something soon," Veda reminded her. Veda, Zuri, and Venus were at Shelly's Pageants dress shop looking for her dress.
"Do you like it?" Zuri asked Venus. Venus put her hand on her chin.
"Ugh!" Growled Veda as she walked back into the dressing room.
"So how's hanging out with Jaylen?" Zuri asked Venus, making conversation as they waited.
"Good. He's my fiance."
Veda popped her head out of the curtain.
"Yea. He asked me to marry him yesterday. Remember, the ring pop."
"I though he was being nice."
Venus shook her head.
"Nope. We're engaged."
"5 years old and already getting married," Zuri says with a chuckle. "Veda's 16 and hasn't even had her first boyfriend."
"Oh shut up!" Veda yells. She comes out with another dress. This one caught Zuri's eye. It was a blue dress with brown streaks.
"Oh.. My... GOD! That dress is absolutely out of this world!" Zuri squeals. Veda looks in the mirror, propping up her glasses.
"You think so?"
"Yea! You gotta get that one!"
Veda looked at the price.
"$934 for a dress??"
"That's not that bad," Zuri says. Veda gave her a look,
"Do you have that type of money?"
"Well no, but-"
Venus got up.
"Venus, where are you going?" Veda questioned.
"Excuse me, Miss?" Venus asked the lady in a sweet voice.
"My sister really needs that dress for her pageant. She has to pay for things at school and our house burned down recently. Do you think she can borrow it? Please?"
The woman gave a sad look and nodded.
"Of course. Just make sure nothing happens to it."
"Yes, ma'am. Thank you," Venus says. She walks towards Veda with a smirk on her fave. "You can borrow the dress. But don't get anything on it."
"But how did you-"
"We have to go! My Fiance can only wait so long," Venus says pushing Veda back into the dressing room.
Getting back to the house, Veda placed her dress in the closet.
"What's that?" Adonis asked.
"My pageant dress," She answers.
"Oh okay. Do you know what you have to prepare yourself for?"
"Of course. We have a swimsuit portion, a talent portion, and a quiz portion."
"Oh. What are you doing for the talent portion?"
Veda just blinked. She hadn't really thought of that.
"I don't know."
"What talents do you have?" Adonis asked.
Adonis huffed and rolled his eyes.
"Something that's entertaining. Like singing or dancing."
"Nope. Can't sing, can't dance."
"Can you draw?"
"Can you do anything that has nothing to do with education?"
Veda shook her head.
"How are you gonna win the pageant when you can't do anything in a certain portion?"
"You say it like you've been in a pageant."
Adonis remained silent. Then a huge smile spread across Veda's face.
"Oh my god! You've been in a pageant before."
"Well I have but-"
"I can't believe it! Mr. Adonis Lewis is a pageant boy! Do you have any pictures."
"Yes but you're not allowed to see them."
"Come on, you've gotta let me see them."
"No," Adonis protested. "It's something you weren't suppose to see."
"Please!" Veda begged.
"Maybe some other time. But you've gotta figure out what you're gonna do for the talent portion."
