Show me the world

Lisa moves to London and an adventure is waiting for her.

1. Moving?

“Lisa!” I heard my mom yell, “could you please come downstairs, we need to talk!”
“Shit, what did I do? I can’t remember doing anything wrong.” I think to myself. I put away the book I was reading, get up and walk down the stairs. “Yes? What is it?” I ask as I walk into the livingroom.
My mom looks at me and gestures that I should sit down. “Your dad got a new job as security head, but his new job is located in London. They want your dad because of his outstanding results and we decided to take on the job and move to London.” I look at them with my mouth wide open. “They are moving to London? We are moving away from our nice small town in Holland. Wait, are we moving? They said they are moving, am I moving?” I think. “Now there’s you. We understand if you want to stay here with your friends. You are 19 now and old enough to live on your own, so you could look for an apartment and stay here. But if you’d want to come with us, we’d be happy to take you. You can live with us, just like we’re doing now. It is your decision. Think about it and tell us your answer sometime this week, okay?” My mom says. “Err… Okay...” I say as I walk back to my room, completely overwhelmed by this announcement.

A few days later I am sitting in my room with a cup of tea. I just came back from work and with my TV on in the background I am thinking about what my parents told me. I only have about 2 days left to decide and I really don’t know what to do. I have lived here all my life. I have my friends here, my family, my hobbies, basically everything I know and now I have to choose between staying with my parents and going with them to a different country or stay in Holland with my friends, but having to leave me parents and live on my own. I really don’t know what to do. I am happy with my life right now, but I would miss my parents so much and I have never lived on my own before. Without my parents around… I would be scared to do that. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to go to London with them and see how it is there. I mean, if I don’t like it, I can go look for an apartment in Holland, right? I can go with them and see if it’s fun. It’ll be like an adventure, haha.

After I told my parents my decision to go with them yesterday, they looked relieved that we didn’t have to say goodbye. They told me that they were planning on moving in about 2 months. They already found a house, so our job is to pack our stuff now. So here I am, looking through all my stuff, throwing away garbage, old stuff, clothes that don’t fit and not a lot remains. My mom walks into my room and looks at all the stuff I am throwing away “Wow, you have a lot of clothes you are throwing away, eh?” She says. “Yeah, I will need to buy some new clothes once we have moved to London” I reply. “We can make it a mother-daughter day, just the two of us shopping and exploring a new city, doesn’t that sound fun?” My mom says with a smile on her face. She almost looks childish with her excitement. “Haha, yeah fine” I say and she then helps me putting away the good stuff in boxes.
