2. Chapter 2
I looked around me. The almost empty classroom was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. The teacher looked at me sternly.
"Kyle," she said. "Are you ready?"
As confused as I was, I said, "Yes, ma'am."
"Good. So you already know," she responded.
I shook my head. She laughed softly. "So you have learned something in your time here," she said, smiling. "You're going back, Kyle."
Back? Back where? Myra. Her name popped into my head. I had been in alternative school for seven months. When I left her, she had already been dealing with pretty severe depression. I had thought about her every day.
"Back to public school, ma'am?" I asked.
"Yes, Kyle. You'll be returning on Friday," she responded, a slight smile across her face. I grinned. I'd get to see her again.
If she's still there.... Voices. So many voices telling me to doubt. She'll be there. I know she will.
We'll see... the voice whispered back.
