I look in the mirror. I'm in ripped red skinny jeans, a black Beatles T, and white Converse. My hair is in a ponytail, all of the streaks showing. I smile and check my make-up. Standard eyeliner, mascara, and a hint of rose lip gloss. Ready.
I clomp down the stairs and smile at the boys expressions. They're all staring, making me blush. Luke holds out his hand, and I take it. We go out towards the car. Luke and I sit up front. Mikey complains Ash has his big feet in the way of his seat. "Don't be an asshat!", Ash demands. I laugh. These guys are always fighting!
Mikey states that Ash's the one being an asshat. Then, Cal being Cal, goes and calls both of the idiots asshats. I scream at them to all be quiet. "Since you all wish to act like babies, I'll treat you like babies. Ash, you sit on the right. Mikey on the left, and Cal goes in the middle. Those will be your assigned seats until I say otherwise.", I command. They all do as I say. There's no more arguing. We drive through the glowing streets.
"It's beautiful here at night.",I whisper. Luke's hand touches my shoulder. It's calloused and rough from playing guitar. I look up at him.
"You're just as beautiful.", he says. I blush and plug my phone up to the radio with and aux cord. I choose my favorite song of their's, She Looks So Perfect. We all sing along. I laugh when we drive by a group of girls who freak out. These boys, my childhood best friends, are famous. It's hard to believe. These are the same boys who's first gig was in my garage.
I let the rest of the songs play. We're almost there. I'd do anything for ten more minutes. In this car, music blasting, us laughing, everyone happy. Luke pulls into the parking spot. I groan as I get out. We walk over to the restaurant, walking in. It looks just like it did nearly three years ago. Were lead over to a table. The problem is it's in the middle of the room. I feel like someone could suddenly pop up behind me, with proof of my past. Then the rest of the guys would know...
"Luke, can we...uh...can we move to the other side of the room? Please? I'm really not comfortable here.", I beg. The boys stop flirting with the waitress long enough to look worriedly my way. I smile. Luke nods and takes me over to a table in the corner. He sits by me and throws worried glances my way. I nod.
We order our food, knowing it'll take at least fifteen minutes for our food to come. We laugh and talk for what seems like ages until our food comes. I take a huge bite of my cheeseburger. "Awwww mahhhh gawwed!", I say through mouthfuls of burger. Luke laughs and takes a big bite of his, too. He nods, eyes closes.
"Thaass is oooo ood.", he says. He smirks at me. So he wants to play, huh. Game on. I stuff a handful of curly fries into my mouth.
"Ahhh iwww weawy ah ood. Twyyy ome uyys.", I choke out, taking a sip of my soda. Check Mate. I laugh. My old competitive streak is back. And it's actually pretty... Something slimy joys my face, disrupting my train of thought. I glare at Luke. He shakes his head, pointing to Ash. I throw a fry at his face.
"Not funny!",I scold. He eats the fry, and laughs. It feels good to be out again. It's been so long. And nothing is going wrong...
"Charlie May Dawn? Oh my god! Hey!", says a voice I know all too well. Shit! I thought I got out clean! Ashley Mackenzie, one of the many people who passed out the photo, comes over to the table. I look down. I hate that girl.
"Hey! Can you not hear? Look up!", she yells again. I do. She looks even bitchier than last time. Her fake blonde hair in a ponytail. Slutty make-up on, and the newest designer clothes. I fake smile at her. Please go away, please go away. "You know, you did a good job of hiding those pictures. I still have copies but...good job.", she laughs. I look down.
"What pictures?", Mikey, Cal, and Ash ask. I shrug. Ashley laughs. I seriously hate the girl. Now, their gonna find out.
"You haven't told your little friends, hi SOS, that you're a burning slut?", she asks. I gasp. I don't know what to do. But run. I spring up from the booth and sprint towards the door. I need to get out of here. I'm shaking so badly. I burst through the door and run down the dock. Where do I go?
I run until I realize where I am. I'm standing by the old port for boats. Luke and I would come here to think. I sit down and cry. Why did this have to happen to me? What did I ever do to deserve this? Nothing. I never fought or stole or bullied people. The world just hates me. I can't stop shaking. It's starting to get cold. I shrug it off and watch the sunset.
"Charlie? Goddamn you have me a scare. Are you okay?", I hear Luke ask. I shake my head. I'm not okay. Not at all. He sits by me. "Why'd you let her talk to you like that?". I shrug.
Tears cloud my vision. "Come here.", he whispers, pulling me close. I let the tears come. I sob into his chest. "Charles, you gotta start fighting back. I'm not gonna sit and watch you get bullied. You're my best friend and I hate to see you sad. Please start fighting. Please.", he begs. I nod.
"I'm gonna make a promise to you, and myself. I'm not gonna let myself be bullied. I'm gonna stand up. Life isn't gonna beat me down. I'm winning this game. It's my life and it's about time I start taking control of it. I promise.", I whisper. He smiles and sets his chin on my head.
I start to shiver. But it's so nice here. I could stay like this forever. "Let's go. You're little hands are freezing.", he says. I shake my head.
"I'm f-fine right h-here.", I stutter. He smirks. I look down. "Fine.", I say.
I look back at the sky. If life wanted to play with the game, it was sure as hella gonna lose. Game on.
Luke holds out his hand, and for the second time tonight, I take it.
Like the chapter? I hope so. I worked so hard. Ashley is a total bitch right? She won't be here anymore. You guys can comment. I'll be happy to write you back. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Love you guys.
