26. Chapter XXVI : one era ends, another begins

|| Luke ||

I followed Hazel's voice through the dark hallway that was dimly lit. My gun was pointed in front of me. I walked at a fast pace, I didn't have much time. A door burst open in front of me. My finger hovered over the trigger. Michael hit the wall to my left before sliding down on his ass.

"Michael," I released my breath I didn't know I was holding.

"Sup Luke," He said. I extended my hand and helped him up. "Do you need me?"

I shook my head, "Where'd you come from?"

"I was helping Ashton, but I heard you scream Hazel's name so I just came to see if you needed help."

"I'm alright. Go help Ashton." I said.

"Right you are," He replied. "Oh, we're gonna blow up the place, so you might wanna be out in about two minutes. This is what i'm helping Ashton with."

I rolled my eyes but nodded, "Okay. Now go."

Michael grabbed his gun and left me in the hallway, closing the door behind him as well. To my demise, another door from the end of the hallway opened. Nearly ten men walked out. I groaned but held my gun out in front of me. I began shooting at them. They ran towards me.

"Hazel!" I shouted. I quickened my shooting but fell when I felt a bullet sink into my leg. "Fuck!" I shouted but raised my gun. One tried to grab me but I hit him with the barrel of my submachine. This caused him to fall back. There was only three left. I blindly shot at them. I needed to get to Hazel. A pair of hands grabbed my arm but I pulled my elbow back and hit them square in the nose.

I ripped off the sleeve of one of the dead soldiers and tied the fabric around my leg. The gun wound was just below my knee. I limped through the hallway as fast as I could. My gun in one hand and my other hand was using the wall for support. I reached the door that the men had come from and pushed it open.

It was the kitchen area. I left a trail of blood as I walked through the kitchen. I went to the other door, at the far end of the kitchen and used my body to push it forward. I was hit with the cold air of the night. I saw a lumpy figure. I squinted my eyes and used the moonlight to make the figure out. It was Thomas, he was on top of Hazel, choking her. I immediately raised my gun and pointed at him before shooting. That popping sound that ended it all. His body went limp.

I heard Hazel gasp for air. I attempted to run, but my wound wouldn't let me. Hazel pulled herself out from under Thomas and got off the ground. She turned to me, "Luke." I heard her footsteps as she ran towards me. I dropped my gun and pulled her into a hug when her body collided with mine. I held her tightly, my face buried in her messy curly hair.

"I knew you'd come for me," She said.

"Hazel, " I pulled away, "I love you."

"What?" She asked stunned.

"I know I only go to know you for a short period of time, but damn, I'm in love with you. You've managed to make me love you in this short time that we spent together. I know I might not be the best, I might not be in the safest place, but I sure as hell can protect you Hazel. I don't-I don't want to let you go. I don't want you to leave me."

Hazel pressed her lips against mine. I was surprised, but grabbed her waist and deepened the kiss. Her hands were on the side of my face, cupping my cheeks.

She pulled away, "You have no idea, how long I've been waiting to do that again."

"You're the most amazing girl I've ever seen," I smiled.

"Luke there's blood on your hand," Hazel said. "Are you hurt?"

"I got shot," I replied.

"Oh my goodness, we need to get you to a hospital," She said.

"And get involved with the police? Hell no," I shook my head.

"Luke!" I turned to see Calum running towards me. His shirt had blood and his face was smeared with it as well.

"You're alive!" I smiled as I gave him a quick bro-hug.

"Told you, nothing can bring me down," He smiled. "Nice to see you alive as well, Hazel."

"Likewise," Hazel replied.

"Luke!" Michael, Ashton and a bunch of our brothers ran towards us, "We gotta get out of here, place is gonna blow up in ten seconds!"

"He got shot in the leg, he can't run," Hazel spoke up.

Calum picked me up and threw my over his shoulder, "Let's go!"

They all took off running. I saw as the SOPRANO headquarters exploded. A cloud of fire and smoke went up into the sky. We were all thrown off by the force of the explosion. I rolled on the dirt and groaned. A car landed next to us in a loud crash and rolled a few times. My head lifted off the ground to see the headquarters in flames. I stood up, with the help of Calum. His arms were scraped up from the gravel, as was I. Hazel pushed herself off the floor and dusted her jeans off. Everyone else stood up and looked at the demolished building.

A gunshot sliced through the night. "Hazel move!" Michael appeared out of nowhere and tackled Hazel to the ground once again. The bullet penetrated the car that had been blown away by the explosion. I pulled my gun out and pointed it at Thomas. He was kneeling several feet away. Drenched in blood and looking terrible. I pulled the trigger and shot him in the head.

"Michael, you saved me," Hazel said as Michael helped her up. "I thought you hated me."

"I never did Hazel, it was all in your head," He walked away. We locked eyes and nodded at each other.

"It's over," Ashton said. "SOPRANO is done."

I nodded, "We won."

Together, Hazel and Calum helped me walk to the car. I saw the first traces of dawn over the horizon. Painting the sky with colors of orange and pink. SOPRANO was over, we'd won the battle and I got vengeance for Matthew's death, as well as many others.

All my friends were alive. Hazel is alive. I pulled her locket out of my pocket and handed it to her. She smiled and that's all I really needed. I thought of my family. My father was leader of a mafia. Hemmings family will rise once again. New families will come to power. Now, it's not only Italian families, it's different kind of families. It's a new era and I plan to be apart of it.

"Let's go home," I said and we all smiled at each other.
