23. Chapter XXIII : gas masks

|| Hazel ||

I watched Luke as he left the house and closed the door behind him. I set the fork down and sighed. Everyone was still in a state of shock at what just happened. Calum, Michael, and Ashton were now underbosses. Which means, Luke is expecting not to come back from the meeting with Granati.

"Okay," Calum brought his hands together. "Let's all just move along through the day and do what we normally do."

"Get fucked up?" One said.

"No," Calum scolded. "Just do something productive, we're on a busy schedule and we have to deliver some products to our sellers."

Everyone nodded and slowly began to part. Soon after, the window shattered and a metal object landed with a thud. Everyone stopped to see what it was. Two more flew in, I tried to look over the heads.

"Gas bomb!" Jacob shouted, but it was too late. The smoke emptied out of the bomb and filled the entire house. I coughed as I tried not to breathe it in.

"Ashton!" I shouted as I fell out of the stool.

"Hazel!" He shouted, but I couldn't see him through the thick cloud of white smoke. "Don't breathe in, don't-" His voice trailed off and I heard various of things falling to the floor. I scrambled off the floor and my lungs screamed for air, finally, I couldn't take it any longer and took in a deep breath. The sound of the door busting open, filled my ears. I heard heavy footsteps on the floor.

I clung onto the island for dear life as my vision began to fade. Through the smoke, I saw a dark figure. Looming around the kitchen. My breathing became ragged. They stepped into view and I saw that they were wearing a dark green gas mask.

"I found her!" he shouted, but it came out muffled. "I found Luke's precious princess." He caught me as I fell. I threw my head back and let the darkness consume me.
