I had to refrain from pulling out a joint and smoking it right then and there. I was under a lot of stress and I just needed a quick escape. Hazel and I haven't spoken for about three miles. The music was playing quietly as I drove. We had spotted the hazy light over the top of the road.
Soon the entire city of Las Vegas was in view. It was still breathtaking no matter how many times I've been here. It was a concrete jungle of the night. It was a city of lights. Every building was illuminated. Every neon sign announced a business, bar, store or hotel.
"Have you every been here?" I asked Hazel.
"A couple times, didn't stay long though," She replied. "You?"
I snorted remembering the reckless memories created here. Before he died, Matthew and the rest of us came to Las Vegas to check up on the headquarters here. We went to a club, got insanely drunk and woke up in a hotel room and a complete mess around us. "I've been here, yes."
We passed the city until we were in the outskirts. I stopped the truck when I saw that the headquarters was surrounded by police. I cursed under my breath.
"What's wrong? Why are they here?" Hazel asked.
"I don't know," i replied. The police didn't seem to b paying attention to the headquarters but the buildings around it, either way we couldn't go in without stirring up some kind of commotion. "We can't stay here tonight."
"So where are we gonna stay?" Hazel asked.
"We'll lay low in the city until tomorrow," I said as I made a sharp u-turn back towards the beaming lights of Vegas.
"One room please," I told the lady behind the counter. We stood in the lobby of Caesar's Palace. This was my favorite hotel in Vegas because of the Roman feel to it. Julius Caesar's statue stood by the entrance. The ceiling itself was a form of art. Everything about this place was perplex and absolutely amazing.
"We do, actually," She said as she typed on the keyboard. Eyes never leaving the computer screen.
Hazel was roaming the lobby, she looked fascinated by the building itself. I smiled to myself before I started giving the lady the information she needed to type into my computer. After a long wait, I finally got the key to the room. I called Hazel who was still looking at the statue of Julius Caesar. She fiddled with the straps of her bag. Together we walked to the elevator and hit the 20th floor button. I exhaled as I leaned against the wall. I closed my eyes.
"How many rooms did you get?" She asked.
"One," I opened my eyes once again and looked at her. "Why did you want a room to yourself?"
She shrugged, "It is only a one night stay, I didn't want us to stay in a place this luxurious, it was too pricey."
"Don't worry about the money," I told her. Hazel's phone vibrated. She pulled her phone from her back pocket and looked at the screen.
"It's Aurora," She replied and pressed the phone against her ear. "Hello."
I drowned out their conversation with my own thoughts. Soon the elevator came to an abrupt stop followed by a small ding! which told us we reached our floor. The silver doors opened and I grabbed Hazel's bag, who was still on the phone with Aurora.
I led the way in search for the room. I checked the various doors which were numbered. Finally after minutes of searching we came to the right door. I unlocked the room and stepped inside before turning on the lights. Immediately the wide room was lit up. I set Hazel's bag on the gray couch nearby and explored the rest of the room.
The bed was a huge king sized bed, just as the receptionist had promised. The duvet was neatly made and had several pillows arranged in a specific pattern. The bathroom was big as well. A bathtub on the far corner and a steam shower just feet away. I went towards the bedroom windows and looked at the stunning view from the room. It overlooked the entire city of Las Vegas. Sea of people moving from one location to another.
"This is amazing," Hazel said. I didn't even notice her stand next to me.
"Indeed,"I nodded. "Well, we need a good night's rest, so I suggest you sleep.
Hazel nodded, "I'm going to take a quick shower first." She went over to her bag and picked it up.
"You can take the bed," I said.
"Oh-uh are you sure?" She fiddled with the hem of her shirt. "Because I could sleep on the couch, I'm perfectly fine with it."
I shook my head, "You can take the bed, I'm fine with the couch. Plus, it's a 5 star hotel, the couches have to be comfortable anyways."
She smiled lightly before going into the bathroom and sliding the doors closed behind her. I exhaled and took my jacket off before setting it on a nearby chair. I reached into my pocket and took out a small plastic baggie I opened it and cleared the glass table in front of me before pouring some of the white powder on the surface. I pulled out a fifty dollar bill from my wallet and fixed the powder into a thin line. I rolled the bill before quickly snorting the line of cocaine into my nose.
I inhaled deeply before sitting up and wiping my nose. I fixed another line and snorted that line as well. Before I knew it, I was high off my ass and I loved it. I loved the feeling that drugs brought to me when you got high. The feeling of not feeling anything. Just joy and happiness. Like the world has been lifted off you and you have absolutely no worries.

I got out of the shower and felt incredibly refreshed. My shirt was sticking to my own skin due to the sweat that has been pouring out of my body for the last couple of hours. I pulled my black sleeping shorts on before sliding the doors open and stepping into the cool bedroom. Luke was extremely generous for giving me the bed. I couldn't wait to sink into this peaceful sleep that was hanging over my head
I heard the TV playing from the entrance and I walked towards the sound when I found Luke staring at the TV blankly. His is eyes were red and glazed over. He was sitting back on the cushions of the gray couch. Legs spread apart. I looked at the table in front of him and saw traces of white powder. A rolled up fifty dollar bill was just inches away.
"Luke?" I asked.
He smiled before looking up at me. His smile was lopsided, "Hi Hazel."
"Are you high?" I asked.
He giggled before nodding.
"I'm going to sleep, goodnight," I said before walking away from him and back towards the bedroom.
"Goodnight Hazey," he giggled again.
I got under the covers and tried to drown out the sound of the TV, but I didn't need to. As soon as my head hit the pillow, sank into a pleasurable sleep.
