Her hand was in mine. That oh so familiar hand that I had longed to touch.
Tracing the patterns on her palm, I found myself retracing my steps. All those nights spent on the couch just feeling the warmth of her body next to mine.
I can only dream of that now.
Then all of a sudden she's gone. Just like the snap of my fingers she gets a call and she's pulled from my grasp. Just like the accident.
The door swung close and I sat down on my bed. My head in my hands, my heart felt heavy and my mind hurt.
"I did not think this through" I said aloud to myself.
"No you did not," a voice said from behind me.
My head snapped to the side as I turned round in shock. Jumping off my bed, I backed up against the door, a finger pointed in her direction.
"You… your…" I stuttered, utterly petrified.
"Didn't your mum teach you that it's rude to point Luke?" Maia smirked.
"H-how are you here? I-I I don't, I don't understand." My mind was a mess, nothing making sense. None off the puzzle pieces fit.
"I'm not here Luke. I'm inside your head! We all have our demons, some of us are nicer than others, of course. Some are louder than others as well. But just because I'm not here, never believe I'm not real. Because I'm always going to be here."
My back slid down the door and I covered my face with my hand, rubbing my eyes.
"Well, why are you h-" She was gone.
Looking round, it was as if she were dust next to an open window. One moment it's there but then the breeze takes it away.
She's just like her sister then.
Giving up, I turned to sit on my bed when I saw her in the doorway.
"How did you-?" Now I was very confused.
"Don't ask Luke. I just came to warn you, and give you a choice. You see, this is your opportunity to start again. Don't mess it up this time.
Start a new story with Suzy and forget about the old one.
Or you can get her memories back and she will leave you forever. I know she's a forgiving person, Suzy always has been, but the hurt you have caused to her is too damaged to fix.
It's your choice."
Then she left for good.
That night I couldn't sleep. I toosed and turned, the decision I had to make weighing down on my shoulders like I had the world upon them.
Then the puzzle piece slotted into place
"Calum? Caluuuuuum? CALUM!" I shouted, seeing him at the other side of the school hall.
He turned his head at the third shout, a smile spreading on his face and his eyes lighting up. He quickly straitened his face, but his eyes still glowed.
"Did you see?" I interrupted, "Suzy's back at school!"
I literally jumped and he caught me before I could fall.
Arms around my waist, he held me close.
"Really? That's amazing!" he replied, pulling me even closer.
"Yeah…" I trailed off, my eyes flickering down to his lips.
We leaned closer, so close I could feel his breath and taste his air. I looked deeply into his eyes and…
"GUYS! GUUUUUUYS! GUYSSSSSSS!" It was Ashton and Raven.
We quickly jumped apart.
"Oh, er, are we interrupting something?" Raven asked, almost accusingly, squiting her eyes at us.
"Wha-" Ashton started, completely oblivious.
Calum scratched the back of his neck.
"Nothing, no, we weren't doing anything, nope, nothing, nothing AT ALL, like, never, nope," Calum and I rambled at the same time, faces bright red.
Ashton raised an eyebrow while Raven smirked.
I sighed, rolling my eyes and dropping them to the floor. It was only then I noticed Ray and Ash's linked hands.
"Guys! How comes! Ray your coming over tonight to spill the deets!"
She gave me that "Wtf are you talking about" face before she noticed EXACTLY what I was talking about.
I was talking about them, just to make it clear for you.
"Oh… Yeah… Ahuh…"
Now it was her turn to imitate a tomato.
As the bell rang, we all walked down the hall together before splitting, Ashton and I heading one way to English, Calum and Raven heading the other to maths. But just before we turned the corner and lost sight of each other Calum gave a me quick wink.
Blushing, I linked arms with Ashton as we fell into deep conversation upon entering the classroom.
Maybe things will be okay.
