“I am so excited! I can’t believe we’re finally going to meet 5 Seconds of freaking Summer!” My best friend Maya squealed. We were lining up along with the other VIPs at the 5SOS concert. They would be letting people in really soon.
“I know! I can’t wait for the Meet and Greet, I can finally meet them! Ahhh!!” I said. Right, you don’t know who I am. My name is Amber Hamilton. I just turned 17, I like gummy bears and cute blondes who go by the name of Luke Hemmings. Luke and his perfect blonde quiff and his adorable lip ring and his—
“A! They’re letting people in! The concert’s gonna be awesome! When we get a picture with them, we have to show Vanessa on Monday. She’s gonna be so jealous! So worth spending my money on these tickets instead of buying a motorbike.” Maya rambled. As you can tell, Maya is one of those daredevil type girls. The tickets for this show were crazy expensive. Maya had been saving up for ages. I saved up too, but when the time came to buy the tickets, I was still short about $150. (A/N: American dollars) Luckily, my cousin who was studying in London sent me the rest of the money to pay for the VIP package. The VIP package were front row seats, Meet and Greet after the concert and free merch. And, one lucky fan gets chosen to go up on stage and perform a song with 5SOS! (A/N: I’ve no clue if that’s true cause I’ve never been to a 5SOS concert b4… ikr some fan I am… :() I hope I get picked, but you know, my chances are just as small as the next person’s. Vanessa is the queen bee at our school. Like all typical queen bees, Vanessa is rich, popular, narcissistic, very self absorbed and overally just a really big bitc—
Oops. I was so busy rambling, I hadn’t realized the concert started. We were seated a little bit to the left of Luke, so we got a bit of Michael too. Which is good since Michael’s Maya’s favorite.
“What’s up Los Angeles! How are we all doing tonight?” Luke shouted. “You guys ready to rock? Alright, first song’s called Safety Pin! Sing along if you know it!” Luke said. The crowd of girls surrounding me cheered and screamed and sang along, well, shouted along to the song. Maya grabbed my hand and we started to jump around. The concert was absolutely amazing. After almost 2 hours, the concert was over.
“Meet and Greet time!” Maya shrieked and dragged me along with all the other VIPs. We made our way toward the table where 5SOS had just sat down. A chorus of high pitched screams and camera clicks filled my ears.
“Let’s head to the back so we have more time with them.” Maya whispered and pulled me along. “But then we have to wait longer…” I whined. “Well, you can either wait with me or go home to your annoying little brother.” Maya smirked. My little brother’s name was Henry. He just lived to annoy me.
“So what were you saying about the back of the line?” I asked, laughing. After about half an hour, we finally got to the table. “Hiya girls!” Ashton said. “Hi!” Maya said, mostly to Michael though. “Maya I’m… I mean… I’m Maya.” She laughed nervously. I bit my lip to keep myself from laughing.
“Yeah, she’s Maya and I’m Amber. It’s nice to meet you boys.” After we introduced ourselves, we took a few group pictures and had a few laughs. “Can I take a video of you kissing my cheek?” I asked Luke shyly, blushing furiously as I did.
“Course you can love.” Luke smiled. “You turn your head left alright?” Luke said to me. I nodded. I got my phone and held it out in front of me. I pressed record. Then I turned. And ended up kissing Luke square on the lips.
(A/N: You have no idea how badly I wanted to end it here! But I wanted to make this a one-shot, or a two-shot, or a three-shot… basically really short so yeah… :))
Luke jerked backwards as soon as our lips touched. I staggered backwards embarrassed. “Did you do that on purpose? My girlfriend’s gonna kill me…” Luke asked, a concerned look on his face. I could see him eyeing the cameras to see if anyone had caught that.
“I’m s-so s-sor-ry. I d-didn’t m-mean t-to…” I stuttered. Luke’s face showed a mixture of surprise, anger, hurt, confusion and concern. I quickly ran away before anyone could react. I heard Maya calling out behind me but I ignored her and kept running with tears in my eyes. I ran out into an empty corridor and sat down with my back against the wall. I pulled my knees up to my chest, as the tears streamed down my face. Was Luke Hemmings seriously worth crying over? I guess so, since I’m doing it.
I heard heavy footsteps approaching. It’s probably Luke. “Luke, look, I’m sorry I kissed you but if you’re here to reprimand me, you can go back the same way you came, cause I don’t feel like getting yelled at and I already feel really bad about this…” I babbled and looked upwards. “And you’re not Luke.” I trailed off awkwardly.
“Yeah. Sorry to disappoint.” Calum said sliding down to sit next to me against the wall. “If you’re hear to tell me I shouldn’t have kissed Luke and whatnot, you can just leave.” I stated bluntly. “Well, you shouldn’t have. But that’s not what I came here to say.”
“Then why are you here?” “I’m curious. Luke told you right before you kissed to turn your head to your left. And you turn right.”
“It was an honest mistake!” I protested. Psht, yeah right. And I’m the queen of England. Shut up brain… Calum seemed to be deep in thought.
“Hey Amber, how are your English scores? Like for your exams at school?”
“I don’t see how this is relevant to the situation, but honestly, not fantastic. I’m passing, but with a C grade.” I mumbled. It’s not exactly something I’m proud of. Most of my grades aren’t that great. I started playing with the buttons on my jacket. Calum noticed this and frowned slightly. I raised my eyebrows.
I heard another set of footsteps. It was probably Maya. I looked up and saw a pretty girl in a tight dress and her brown hair was worn in ringlets. She stopped directly in front of us and gave me a death glare.
“Who are you?” I asked unsurely.
“Arzaylea, go back inside and suck Luke’s face and leave us alone.” Calum said sourly.
“This is—you’re Luke’s girl—oh…” I realized and pursed my lips. “You kissed my boyfriend.” She stated. “Look, I swear that was an accident, I—“ I didn’t get to finish. Arzaylea had already slapped me across the face and pulled me up by my hair. I flinched, but didn’t scream.
“Arzaylea!” Calum boomed and stood up. “Cal, it’s fine.” I said to him before turning to Arzaylea. “Go ahead, beat me up, whatever, I deserve it.” I told her. Her eyes were glaring daggers into mine. She let go of my hair and punched me in the face making me land on the floor. Calum kept on yelling at her to stop. She kicked me repeatedly in the stomach, which hurt a lot more than it should have considering she was in 6-inch heels.
“Calum, I swear, it’s fine. Stand back.” I protested, coughing up some blood. “Yuck.” I commented. Arzaylea finished me off and spat on me. “Don’t you ever touch my Lukey ever again. Got it?” She said menacingly before leaving.
I cleaned off my bloody lip with my shirt sleeve. I lifted up my shirt and saw the bruises were already starting to form. “Why didn’t you stop her? Or let me stop her?” Calum said.
“I’m fine. I’m a big girl I can take it.”
“But it wasn’t your fault!” Calum whinged.
“It kind of was.” I muttered. Calum stared at me for a while as if analyzing me carefully.
“What?” I asked.
“How do you spell ‘dissonance’?” Calum asked slowly.
“What’s with the questions?” I complained.
“Please just answer it.” I huffed.
“D-E… no D-D-I-C… D-I-S! D-I-S-E… um…” I fumbled.
“Quick fire question, which way is your right?” Calum questioned. I panicked, and pointed to my left.
“Are you dyslexic?” Calum blurted out. (A/N: Wanted to end it here too… -.-) My eyes widened. How… how did he… know that? Only my parents and my brother know that I have dyslexia and ADHD, but that’s only because they were in the room when I was diagnosed. I’ve had it since I was a kid. I’ve never even told Maya.
“N-no.” I lied unconvincingly.
“Fine! So what if I am?” I exploded.
“Why didn’t you tell Luke? Maybe he wouldn’t be mad at you if he knew!” Calum suggested.
“Calum! No, alright? You can’t tell anyone about my dyslexia, Maya doesn’t even know.”
“How is that possible?” Calum asked.
“I’m very good at hiding things.” I replied.
“Clearly.” He muttered. “But, having dyslexia is nothing to be ashamed about.” He continued.
“Yes it is.” I answered. “It’s a disease. Before moving here, I went to school in Connecticut. And it got leaked that I had dyslexia and ADHD. The whole school turned against me, so much that we had to move out of state. I told myself I wouldn’t let anyone know about this. Because they either make fun of me, or they pity me. And I hate to be pitied. And the teachers didn’t know at first either, so they thought I was lazy or dumb. But I’m not, and I can do the homework if someone reads it to me, but my parents are at work pretty much all the time so I have no one to help me with my homework. And when it got leaked, they found out and they started treating me differently. Giving me higher grades I didn’t really deserve, giving me extensions… You can’t tell anyone about this, especially not Luke. You guys are probably never going to see me again after tonight anyways and you guys will probably forget about me too, because I’m just a freak who can’t tell her left from her right.” I mumbled.
“Amber… you’re not a frea—”
“Look, I’m sorry, okay?” Calum says. He pauses. “What time do you have to be home tonight?”
“My parents are in Europe. My brother’s staying at a friend’s tonight.” I sighed.
“We’re in LA for a few more nights.” Calum starts. “You wanna hang out?” He asks.
“R-right now?” I say, surprised.
“Yeah. Amber and Calum bonding time. Don’t worry, I know you’ve got a thing for Luke. I will be the supportive older brother that will break all of Luke’s bones if he hurts you.” Calum grinned cheekily. I shove him playfully.
“C’mon then.” Calum gestures. Calum took me to the park. The whole way there, we talked about ourselves. I told him about my dyslexia. He didn’t judge me, which was nice.
At this point, he wasn’t Calum Hood – bassist of 5 Seconds of Summer. He was just, Calum. I wish I could be friends with him, get his number so we can hang out all the time, but, he’s famous. He’s gonna leave LA soon, he’s gonna forget about me, and he might think I’m just some crazy fan.
“Hey Amber, can I have your number? This might sound creepy and all but I swear I’m not a creep.” Calum rushed.
“It’s cool. Here.” I handed him my phone and he gave me his and we swapped numbers. I took a funny picture with the camera and set it as my profile pic. I saw him do the same with mine. I saved my contact as AMBER :* After we had gone to the park, we went for ice cream and overall just hung out and had a great time. When we pulled up to my house, I cursed.
“Just great.” I said sarcastically. “I forgot my keys. My brother’s got a spare with him but his friend lives like a half hour away. Well done Amber.” I groaned.
“You can just let my off and I’ll walk to Maya’s or to my brother or something.” I said.
“No way!” Calum protested. “You can bunk in our hotel tonight if you wanna… You can have my bunk, I’ll take the couch.” He said.
“No… I mean, I don’t want to intrude, it’s your room and your bed.”
“Amber, seriously, it’s fine and the guys all like you anyway so it’ll be fine.”
“Then there’s this Luke thing…” I mumbled.
“It’ll be fine.” Calum started driving. “Besides, maybe you two can solve this thing.”
“Uh uh. No way. I just want to never see him again because he probably hates me.”
“He doesn’t hate you.” Calum said. “We can’t argue about this all night…”
“Agree to disagree.” I shot back. We arrived at the hotel sooner than I would have liked. Calum pulled on a disguise – an awful one at that – (it was a French beret and a pair of ray bands), and we walked into the hotel. It was a 5 star hotel, no doubt. The interior was beautiful. We walked to Calum’s room. He looked at me apologetically.
“I’m bunking with Luke. Sorry.” He didn’t sound too sorry, but whatever. The first thing I saw when I walked in was Luke and Arzaylea making out on Luke’s bed. Well, that’s a sight I’ll never be able to unsee. Calum cleared his throat loudly and Luke and Arzaylea jumped apart.
“Seriously?” Luke said.
“If we didn’t stop you, well, let’s just say I don’t want to sit here and just watch you guys screw each other.” Calum shuddered.
“We?” Luke said, confused. I was still sorta hidden behind Calum. I stepped out and Arzaylea gasped. “You little—” She started. “Hey! Leave her alone.” Calum snarled. “What are you doing here, Amber?” Luke asked. I swallowed, because I had no answer.
