24. Jack & Jack
At lunch, Jack sat down in front of me. “I'm sorry about yesterday, leaving so suddenly. I have to tell you the truth though.”
“What?” I say, still processing that he sat down.
“I didn't really have to pick up my dad.”
“Then, why did you lie to me?”
“To be honest, I didn't really like the idea of you and Hayes... together.” he made a face and shook his head. “I'm okay with it now I guess, I mean, you can't really change the past but yeah.”
“You're okay with it? Good, I'm glad. I was worried you wouldn't be.” I say sarcastically.
A boy with blonde hair sat beside Jack. “Yo, I have so much homework and the day isn't even over. Damn, it's not fair.” he looks at me. “Hello.”
“Hi. I have a lot of homework too so I know what you mean.”
“I'm tellin' ya. What the hell is wrong with them? They want to lock us up in here for 8 hours and send us home with another 3 hours? No way. I'm not doin' it.”
I nod and take a bit of my sandwich. “Wait... who are you?”
“Oh, I'm Jack.”
I look over at Jack. “That's not confusing.” I say, again being sarcastic.
“And what's your name?” the blonde said.
“My name's Liz.”
“You're Liz?” he looks at Jack. “She's Liz?” he looks at me again and smiles really big. “You're Liz?”
“Yeah, why? What's the problem?”
“No problem. Just that, when he told me you were gorgeous, I didn't think you were this gorgeous. Like... wow, you're beautiful.”
“Bro, stop, please!” Jack said.
I smile. “Well, um, thanks... I guess. And Jack is pretty gorgeous too.” I look over at him, his face turns red as he smiles too.
The blonde comes and sits next ton me now. “You know what, he is pretty gorgeous. That tan is perfect.”
“And his smile.” I nod.
“You guys known each other for what, 2 minutes and your already being weird. Goodbye.” Jack leaves us, making us laugh loudly.
“I think... Liz, I think I just found myself a new best friend.” Jack looks at me and nods slowly.
I nod slowly too. “Yes, yes, I think so too.”
