25. Groupies

Since there was a substitute in 8th period I went all the way in the back with Jack. “So what else to did you say about me to your friend?” I ask sitting next to him.
“What?” he looks up from his phone.
“Don't make me repeat it, I know you heard me.” I laugh.
“I don't know what your talking about, Liz.” he smiled shyly.
    “Yeah, you do, don't lie.”
He laughed. “Just that I do think your very beautiful and can't wait for Friday.”
I look at the front board, where the teacher is. She was way younger then Ms. Cay and she even looked much nicer too. She wasn't too tall but she was very skinny. I think she curled her short brown shoulder-length hear but the ends looked like they were becoming straight. She was erasing and writing something on the board, she was a lefty so I could see the huge, beautiful engagement rock on her finger. She wrote 'Keep working on your projects with your partners, you have 3 days left!'
“We have a lot to do.” I point to the front of the room and look at Jack.
He looks at it and shrugs. “I wouldn't worry about it.”
“Jack, we didn't do anything last night. What do you mean you're not going  to worry about it? We're gonna be behind.”
“You need to chill, okay? I got people for that sort of thing. Ya know... like... groupies.”
I snicker. “Groupies? What; are you apart of some type of boy band now or something?”
“Alright, listen smart-ass...” he leaned towards me and smiles. “I got it covered, just you and your pretty face trust me.”
“I'm pretty sure that doesn't make sense.”
“I was trying to complement you... the least you could do is just leave it at that.” he sat back, crossed his arms and raised his eye brows at me.
“Maybe I don't want your complement, Jack.” I smile and copy his posture.
“Well, maybe I don't really care, Liz.” he leans close to me again, this time so close I could smell the hairspray in his hair.
“Are you two working back there?” the teacher calls.
Jack sat back quickly and smiled. “Yes, ma'am. I was just seeing if she had something in her eye because she was saying it was hurting her.”
“Oh! Okay, I'm sorry to have bothered you, keep up the good work then.” she smiled back at him.
“Are you kidding?” I laugh. “You will make up any lie to stay out of trouble, won't you?”
“What? Like you won't?” he gives me a look.
I don't say anything so he just winks at me.
