31. Danny's News
I hear a knock at my door a few hours later. “I'm leaving, see ya soon?” it was Ellie, she peeked her head it my room.
“Okay.” I look up from my homework. I wasn't going to tell her I wasn't going, just to save the drama. When she calls me wondering where I am, I'll just tell her Chris caught me trying to sneak out.
My phone rang. Ellie nodded her head and left so I answered it. “I hear you're going over to Cameron's tonight, I was invited too.” it was Hayes.
I got chills up and down my spine. “No.” I say, shakily.
“Why not? I wanna see you.” his tone was like nothing bad happen between us, like we were together happily.
“I'm – I don't... wanna see you.”
“Yes, you do. Now... I'll see you there in 20 minutes?”
“Hayes, I can't. I'm grounded. If my mom's boyfriend see's I'm gone, he'll tell my mom and I'll get into more trouble.”
“Then here's an idea; don't get caught.” he said angrily then hung up.
I stood up fast and quickly threw everything off my bed, dropped to my knee's and started crying. I don't know how much longer I'll be able to take Hayes harassing me. I call Danny, I need some advice and he's the only one I can trust at the moment. He doesn't pick up, so I hang up and call back. Again the same thing so I left him a message and texted him that I'm coming over.
“Chris!” I run downstairs, him and mom are in the living room watching T.V.
“Honey, what's wrong? Why are you crying?” mom comes over to wipe the make up off my cheeks but I push her away.
“I have to talk to you outside, please?” I say and go out to the porch.
“What's wrong.” he followed.
I shut the front door so mom wouldn't hear us. “I have to go see a friend, his name is Daniel.”
He sighed. “Lyza...”
“Please? He isn't picking up when I call him and I really need to talk to him.”
“No, I- It's... I have to talk to him alone. And you can't tell my mom.”
He sat down and started a cigarette. “Fine, go, I won't tell your mother but next time...” he pulled out my car keys out of his pocket and gave him to me.
I smile and race to Danny's, banging on the door when I get there. His mom answers the door. “Hey, Mrs. Skye, is Danny home?”
She covered her mouth and started crying. Danny's dad came over and told her to go lie down, he'll be up to calm her down in a minute. “Lyza, sweetheart...” he paused a minute. “Danny...” he paused again. “He was... he's no longer with us.” his voice sounded shaky. “We thought you knew.”
I felt my ears get hot as tears fill my eyes again. “What? No... how?”
He sighed and sniffled his nose. “We went out one night and found him on the living room floor... shot to death.”
I shake my head. “I... I have to go. I'm... I'm so sorry.” I get back into my car and scream. My best friend is gone. And I think I know what happen.
