The day ended with a blur once I had left Harry's room. He didn't bother to show up for lunch in the cafeteria and didn't take his pills from what Brendon told me.
It was now a new day, and I was having Brendon keep me updated on the latest news.
"He's suspicious and scary." Explains Brendon as he's wearing his signature glasses, while writing down some notes onto Harry's file for me. He then clicks his pen shut and hands me the clipboard saying, "You do know he's your patient right? Why am I doing your job?"
He was right. I had been waiting for a job like this to come, and now that I have it I'm wasting my time. I sigh and say, "I felt a tad uncomfortable around him yesterday to be honest."
Brendon removes his glasses and holds my hand asking, "Why? Did he hurt you? Did he do anything inappropriate? Should we send him to the disturbed ward?"
I shivered from hearing the disturbed ward and immediately shook my head, not wanting Harry to suffer like that.
"No-no! I'm fine, I promise." I say as I remove my hand from his touch and tuck a strand of loose hair behind my ear. I then walk away from my desk and thank Brendon for helping with the paperwork. I look at the clock and see it's almost time for lunch.
I walk into the cafeteria with my clipboard and watch everyone doing their normal routine. The only thing different now is Louis' back and he's not doing much. I walk a little closer to his table to see him not eating and just playing around with his food.
I straighten my posture and decide to sit next to him. Maybe you can help me out, Louis.
"Hey Louis." I greet with a smile as I put my clipboard onto the table. He doesn't look up nor greet me back. I sigh and soon say, "Joel."
His eyes immediately widen from hearing that familiar name leave my lips. I'm about to ask him a question before he says, "I'm sorry, but who's Joel?"
"Wait, what? Louis do you not remember-" I begin to say as he looks at me dead in the eye.
He interrupts me saying, "I don't know any Joel's, also who are you?"
They must've fucked him up pretty bad. I clear my throat and decide to start all over again. Maybe I can slowly begin to jog his memory.
"Hello Louis, my name is Nurse Lexi. I've been working here for a while now." I reintroduce myself as Louis drops his fork onto his tray and leans forward. He then reaches forward and brings his hand to my ear. I was shocked and was about to call a guard over, but decided against it.
He took his hand back and threw a playing card across the table. He then stands up from his seat and leaves the cafeteria with a guard, leading him back to his room.
I shake my head and soon reach for the small red card to see its a queen of hearts. The only thing so special about this card is it has the words HELP ME written on the back.
"How's it going little lady?" says a raspy voice as I gasp and throw the card up out of fright. It lands on the table and I quickly retrieve it, hiding it under the stacks of paper on my clipboard.
I look up to see Harry, putting his tray down on the table and taking a seat right next to me. I lean over to him and say, "You can't just sneak up on me like that, if a guard saw you he could've thought you were hurting me."
"And do what? Kill me? They seem to be doing a pretty swell job of doing that around here." he admits as he takes a bite out of his green apple first.
"No, they would've taken you to the disturbed ward." I explained.
"Oh so they also brainwash all these innocent patients." he says with cruelty in his voice. I put my hand on his shoulder and soon say, "Hey relax, I'm only doing this for your own safety and benefit."
He relaxes under my touch and soon nods his head. I then look at his file and say, "You haven't been taking your pills, and you haven't gone to any treatments."
"I told you I'm not crazy, and I don't see why you're telling-"
"I'm warning you, Harry. If they realize you aren't following the rules you'll get into a shit load of trouble." I explained as his eyebrows knitted together while he licked his lips. He was deep in thought, but was soon interrupted as Brendon said, "Okay guys! Lunch is over."
We stand up from our seats and walk out, but I'm soon stopped as Brendon grabs my shoulder lightly and whispers, "Be careful."
